Dark Devil Auto: A Community Grow Record

BrixNewb, she's going to probably take longer than the breeder says. From my perspective you still have a good ways to go. They thicken up very nicely from here on.

Looking good. :high-five:

Yes it is looking sweet arteekay. You've got beautiful structure going there, and look at all those potential bud sites already showing themselves. I get so excited every time one of you posts pictures it's almost crazy. :laughtwo:

I'm impressed with how well this community grow idea's been received. I'll be dropping seeds on Thursday for my new grow and of course I'll include a DDA, but I'll also be starting my second Carnival, and I'm considering another community grow for that strain. If we can ramp up the interest in that strain the way we've done with our lovely Dark Devil Autos....... well, that just makes my heart beat a little faster thinking of the possibilities. It's kind of my way of repaying Graytail for mentoring me so effectively. The man put up with a lot of hounding from me, learning to grow my first real photoflowering plant as well as leading me smoothly through my first go round with Doc Bud's HB kit. :laughtwo:

I'm super late with my photos (should have taken and posted them last Wednesday on her 9th week birthday) but here's my DD at 68 days old:

(3 gallon RootMaker pot with coco coir/perlite, watered daily and GH nutes given with 2 out of 3 waterings to a mild schedule from another site :))

Buds are firming up and bulking up more everyday. Trichomes are harder for me to see because of the darkness of the flowers and sugar leaves. There's some serious nitrogen clawing in the leaves which I think is a holdover from earlier in the flowering process when I was disregarding the conservative feed schedule I had been using and decided to up the grow nutes, giving too much N. Any observations or suggestions are certainly appreciated by this new grower!

She's SUPER sticky and SUPER smelly. The smell of this girl in particular hits me every time I go upstairs and into my husband's office (where the tent is) :) He claims to love the smell, which is very, very lucky ... I will get some trichome photos ASAP so I have a better idea where we are in terms of the harvest time line.

Should I back build at this point? I've never back built and am keen to try :)

All the best to my fellow DD fanciers and to our host, Sue :)

Reps+
that is absolutely gorgeous mature plant.

I didn't want to create a new thread to ask a question so I will post it here if that's okay Sue :cheesygrinsmiley:

I will be done the stretch in about 2 weeks and I am thinking of changing/adding bulbs to get as much dank as possible.

Here's the plant, day 13 from flip.

Here's my question.

Should I switch the CMH to HPS for when the stretch is done, or get red LEDs 630nm and keep the CMH in? Or should I keep the CMH in and supplement that with HPS?

I want to squeeze every last trichome off of her.

:bongrip:Vlad

What a gorgeous plant. The sheer beauty of some of these DD's on here has me in awe. Hopefully i can win some of these in that herbies contest! Id definitely love to join in on the fun! Now off to conjure up some more "spine" busters to improve my odds! lolz :lot-o-toke:

I love your work in that thread, STIHL -- you should win it not only for a great caption but because you're so damned persistent! :)

Hey there Glimmer - from my experience you're about done there. In a few days the white pistols will turn color to a dark orange and then no more new pistols. That's the sign the flowers are finished. Look at the part of the plant where the pistols are coming out of - the calyx. That little plant part right now should look sort of like an egg which it is in the plant world. It's full of THC. When it's nice and full and roundish that's when you want to harvest. Which is very soon for you. I chop when no more new pistols show. This is how I harvest all my plants.

Can't help with the "back build" question - don't even know what that is TBH.

Regarding N; your clawed plants look fine to me. I've had clawed plants that were curled like a fist, plants finished no problems and taste fine. Clawed leaves I don't think is specifically N related. Again your plants look perfectly healthy, I wouldn't worry.

What I do when I "think" I've got issues with a plant is make up a batch of kelp meal tea - if that doesn't fix the issues it's probably insects doing damage. Healthy plants = good harvest. Your plants are perfect. Good job, keep it green and purple! :thumb:

Dark Devil Harvest - 72 Days from seed

Topped at day ~18 above soil. She stretched about 4 inches higher after that and started flowering within a week. Not long enough veg time to warrant topping, she would've stayed under a foot and a half for me. Topping did give a cool structure.

Grown in LOS with General Organics feedings. She took to nitrogen toxicity at 1.5x grow strength(standard for my other autos at around 3 weeks old). She spent the first month on 12/12, but she was given a primo spot under the 600w HPS to flower under.

Her buds are airy and she was a pain to trim because of it. No amber trichs, but nice brown hairs and I wanted to make space for another. 151g wet on stems so should be around an ounce dry bud.

I just harvested another one... I've had a few in jars curing a proper amount of time and we were sampling the smells and after about 5 weeks in jars with 62% Boveda packs the buds now smell very peppery with a hint of black berry... OMG and the smoke is mighty fine!

This one chopped - sorry for the pink pics even with white balance on I get this in the veg room

Here she is again.. I think the purple buds with LED there's not much white balance can do with lighting.
I'll post a pic when I trim this one.. she's almost completely dark purple on the verge of black with a touch of orange pistols. She's "hangin on the line" drying out.

Next up for chop is this one - not quite ready as there are some white pistols in the lower right there in the pic. Coming down the stretch for sure, maybe this weekend. I've got another round of these going right now!! seedlings at this point.

So yesterday Dark Devil got her first Cat Drench and today was Brix. She seems to be doing alright, not expecting a big yield, but she is alive and frosting up, so I am happy.

Nice trichome development BrixNewb, and still another CAT to go. Going to get really exciting now. Very nice. :battingeyelashes:

Thanks Sue. This grow has been a pretty stressful one for me. I am not excited to post pics, but you are always there telling me I am doing good. It means a lot.

I'm excited to see your pics, please keep posting them!

Every individual living Cannabis plant is a treasure to have and behold, now twist that shoulder up and give yourself a huge pat on the back.

:bravo:
