Dank's Three Strain Grow LST CFLs In Soil

Actually Canna, this deadline is a positive one, because we are moving to a better climate, politically that is. The state shall remain nameless until we move, at which time I will update my location, we certainly can't wait!

Congratulations! I seriously considered moving to a friendlier state awhile ago, but I'd miss my nieces and nephews too much. Since I'm not going anywhere I decided to become involved with couple organizations pushing for reform in my state. I'm hoping that through enough hard work my state will be a better climate too ;)

It would take a serious regime change for this backwoods state to consider reform, and if I thought joining a movement would help, I certainly would. I believe this state will be among the last to even pass medical cannabis laws, much less full legalization, so I will just relocate, I'm tired of my current locale anyway.

I've been checking out the 420 news letters that come out I think monthly. From reading through some of that, I am under the impression that there are about 20 states (including mine) that are on the fence with that decision. I think mine will have good news with the next election, but the climate for change is on the horizon for many states and soon I really think all 50 will be green in 5 years. With the ever failing value of USD, and the ever increasing debt, states will be hard pressed to resist.

Yeah if they legalize on the federal level, this state will fall in line, and only then, IMO. We have one super conservative candidate, and one liberal with not much support, in a state that has had many years of conservatives. They did a poll, 52% of the population supports legalization, and they miss out on soooo much revenue, dumbasses.

I know what you mean, Dank. I lived in Texas for a couple years, and I'll never move back there. People in prison with decades long sentences for marijuana.... no thank you. My state isn't legal, but is decriminalized. You can have 99 grams and it's a $150 ticket and no jail time. I can live with that. For now. ;)

On a more positive note, I'm about to order a 250 watt dual spectrum cfl, since I have to get a bigger bulb for flower anyway, I thought why not a dual spec. I was going to have to spend the money regardless, and my plants need more lumens now as well, this will save me from having to add a bunch of smaller bulbs.

I'm in total agreement there! :thumb:

The Purple Paralysis was watered with 3/4 strength grow big today, I think she can take it, since she showed a slight N def after 1/2 strength. Really hoping the AK X is a girl, such a vigorous plant, and really nice looking! The PP has 12 nodes, while the AK X has 11 so far, both nice looking plants, couldn't be happier with them.

Okay so here's some pics, just cause I like pics myself, some funky looking leaves in these pics, but new growth is excellent. So here's the AK47 X UK Cherry Cheese X Skunk #1 at day 38.

Then the Purple Paralysis, also on day 38.

And the GDP X Purple Cheese, which is growing quite slowly, but my friend told me something about this cross not being completely stable.

To replace the Cotton Candy that was pulled, we have sprouted another cross, AK47 X UK Cherry Cheese X Sour Kiwi, I'll post a pic of that baby soon, just hope he doesn't panic again, scrap another one, lol. I hope you're all having a good night, stay baked!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the tucking of the large fan leaves. I kind of tuck them behind each other, to allow more light to get to the side branches, which are almost ready to be tied down as well.

I sometimes go as far as to 'kink' (as LA put is, indentation with the fingernail) the leaf's petiole to get it to remain in a more permenant position. Merely bending them, I've noticed, only maintains that position for at most 24 hours before the plant corrects itself and brings the leaf back into the light's full penetration.

For those of you that haven't visited this thread, I highly recommend you check it out, some very good points are made about the quality of the finished product. I will be doing this with half of the first plant harvested from this grow, for comparison purposes, and I'll decide if I want to do this from now on. All the growers that have used this method, at least on this thread, swear by it, saying they will not smoke unwashed buds again! I'll post results here, maybe even a video, so I can use my brand new $200 camera!
Bud Washing

Hi mate, hows the plants coming along?

also how often are you feeding them now, the leave turning yellow suggests you need to be feeding more N at this stage, the lower leaves should not turn yellow this early on. so im thinking you need to bump the feed up slightly, what i do is bump it up by 1ml each time i feed, then wait a few days and see how the plant reacts, then plain water the next feed to stop any salts building up, then the next feed again i bump up by 1ml, the a few days later the plants tells you how its doing, if you see some slight burn at the tips of the leaves then back off 1ml and stay with that until the plant needs more.

keep an eye on the temps as you dont want them getting to low or to high as this will also slow growth, higher temps cause the plants to stretch and cooler temps stop them growing, ive had some clones in suspended animation under just 1cfl and they are still alive but not grown an inch in well over a month, so i do this to keep the clones alive for a future grow.

what feed are you using now with them, the dogget simpson product is pretty amazing stuff so if you get the chance try some of that, its all ive used and at the stated dose the plants seem to respond really well.

the cheese cross has a few pheno types but the bud it produced was very nice.

im currently working on the purps and spent a load of cash on purple strains and now my ww x sk has turned purple on its own so due to its very aggresive growth ill use it to cross with one of the known purple strains i got, hopefully ill have a couple of males from these purple strains and ill use that to cross with the ww x sk then ill keep back crossing until all seeds give me true purps without the drop in temps,

ive also found out that its not just down to the temps, nutrients play a big part in colour, when i stopped feeding the ww x sk and the temps got cooler it started turning purple, its close to harvest so i stopped feeding, but now its turning purple ill give it another couple of weeks before harvest, so i gave it one last feed and the purple started turning green again, so im thinking the N in the feed stops the chlorophyl breaking down,

so with your plants above turning yellow due to lack of N this suggests the cholorphyl is breaking down and it loses its green colour, so by keeping the N high the plant will remain green.

enough of my rambling, just thought id drop by and see how things are going,
keep up the good work mate.
peace

That was extremely enlightening Danklover! Thank you so much for posting that. I"m going to add it to my blog for future reference!:thumb:

Thanks Canna, just wanted to share that one, I don't have a lot of 420 time lately, but had to pass that one along. Thanks for dropping in DP, always good to see you online my friend. I use the Fox Farm trio, so using the grow big at this stage, but the yellowing has not spread since I bumped up the nutes before. Let me get a few pics uploaded, so you can really see the new growth, they are growing kind of slow, because I don't have as many watts as I could have in there. This is by choice, because my deadline has moved up, and I'm waiting on the post to bring me a dual spectrum bulb! Anyway, as promised, here's some pics of the plants, which are all doing pretty well, and still growing quite a bit, despite the reduced wattage. Here's the AK47 X UK Cherry Cheese X Skunk#1 which seems to be a very stable cross.

Here's the GDP X Purple Cheese, which had yellowing leaves very early, so it's quite the nute hog, but no new yellowing.
20131123_190410.jpg

Then the Purple Paralysis, which also had some yellowing, as well as a slight magnesium def, but it's doing great now.

So that's day 42 for the AK X, and the Purple Paralysis, and day 30 for the GDP X Purple Cheese, which continues to be a very slow growing plant. My wife and I made some butter the other day, the old fashioned way, sans machine, and it's pretty good stuff! We used 1 gram of kief for 1/2 a pound of butter, and it's not as strong as I would like, but 3 cookies gets you pretty damn baked!
