Cylob's - Indoor - CK White Cookies - Grow Journal - 2016

so here we are on day 28.

i noticed one of CAMILLE'S lower leaves has some yellowing. i wonder what it is? the rounded first leaf is even more yellow, but i expected that...is it normal (or common) for first true leaves to yellow as well?

does anyone have any ideas? i will take some white light photos tomorrow for a better image.

PRINCESS looks pretty nice to me. uniform colour and nothing looking too weird.

and both of the new friends took in their germination, so they are now in the tent.
in keeping with the purple theme, they have been christened DIAMONDS & PEARLS

the new clip fan is great. it dropped the temp a couple of degrees F, so i have been only about 80 once
in the past few days. and i have been keeping the lights off temp around the mid 60s. RH is always around 40%.

i've done one water in the new pots with a higher does of nutrients. still not full strength tho...about 3/4. and i will use RO water with cal/mag in a 2 nutes, 1 plain water rotation.

let's see where we are in a couple of days!!

you may check the PH level and the cal/mag:Namaste:

thank you sara!

i have been running the PH at just under 7. i tested it with 2 cheap testers i have and they are both giving the same reading.
as well, i tested the water i fed them before i used it and it was just around 6.

i used RO water that i had added the low dose of cal/mag to for 1 in 3 feedings and used the same water with a solution of less than
50 percent GH performance pack nutrients based on what was on the box.

i don't have a meter that is more complex than the 3 in 1 style. one was from a local store and one was from ebay. in a side by side, they both give very similar readings on PH and dryness. what do people recommend for meters for PH and nute levels? i don't really want to spend any more money but at this point, it seems like it's a good idea to at least get a nutrient meter if it doesn't cost too much.

please, please, please don't tell me i need to buy a bluelab truncheon :-(

here's some pics from today :

PRINCESS looks ok and is starting to grow a lot!

take it easy everyone!

Without knowing what your soil has in it in terms of nutrients, I wouldn't give any more that 1/4 strength nutrients until you get a feel for the plants needs and where you are nutrient wise. Less is more! Also, your pH range is kind of high. so you might be locking out nutrients. One thing you will find is that these plants are very resilient. They can take a beating and keep on ticking. As long as you don't go out of your way to kill them, they should be fine. Just try to listen to the people on here and ask questions in other people's journals. Welcome to the community cylob.

thanks so much noob!
i appreciate the advice very much.

i will look into getting some PH down type solution right away!!
and on CAMILLE, no more nutes for at least a week or so...

hello friends!

here we are on day 30 and things are starting to get interesting!

other than the one leaf yellowing on CAMILLE, i think the girls look pretty good. :)

here's a little look :

i think PRINCESS will be ready for a FIM soon!

:volcano-smiley:

unlimited love to y'all.

thank you sara!!

it's now day 32 and both girls are starting to stretch up a bit.

i did a water with only cal/mag'd RO water and there seems to be no more yellowing. i wonder if i just transplanted them too deep and the bottom leaves were touching soil that caused some nute burn. i sure hope it was something like that. it doesn't seem to be spreading, so i'll take that as a good sign!

here's some photos taken today in white light :

i used a fine paint brush to get rid of the soil on the leaves. i wonder if that is part of my problem?

happy friday everyone!
have a great weekend.

:cheer:

thanks welshpony!
i hope you (and everyone else) had a sweet weekend.

here's the update on DAY 35.

i am pretty sure CAMILLE has either an N or K deficiency based on some charts i found online. in any case, it's deficient in something.
also, i am pretty sure my PH is too high and that has been causing lockout of nutes.

some images :

here's the question :

should i water the plant now with a dose of nutes and a shot of vinegar to bring the PH down?
the PH is reading over 7 but the moisture meter is still reading over 1/2, so not ready to feed yet.

OR

should i wait until my order of PH DOWN comes on wednesday and just use that instead?
if anyone swears by vinegar (or any other diy solution) i'd love to hear about it.
that would mean the meter will then be at DRY and it would be the right time to give them
a watering.

here's some pics of PRINCESS, who seems to be in better health :

but you can also see a little yellow on the bottom leaves as well.

as well, in the last photo, PRINCESS looks very close to being ready to be FIM'd. does
anyone have any thoughts? i have no experience with that or topping, but i know it
works wonders if done properly.

thanks in advance for any ideas.

(i also ordered a better PH meter and a TDS meter too. that will come in about a week.
i hope that will raise my game!!)

:high-five:

Wait until they are ready to be watered and then you can use lemon juice to ph it down. Add a little at a time and let the pH go down slowly. I would start with a pH of 6.5 and then see how that goes. If the plant is locked out, it doesn't matter what food is available. You are asking the right questions. You should be ok cylob. Cheers :roorrip:

thanks noob and sara!!

i will be doing the full water tomorrow.

but there's a spot of good news. the PH is not too high and the plant has likely not locked up.

i used a C.I.L. soil test kit to check the PH and it is not nearly as crap as i had thought...

20160524_142750_2.jpg

so now all that remains is to make a perfect batch of nutes and then get it perfectly PH'd to
6 or 6.5 and then hope for the best!! thoughts on the perfect number are graciously accepted :)

i will be happy when all the new tools arrive and i can get these issues in hand.

BECAUSE

the new girls were doing ok, but then DIAMONDS took a really horrid turn.

PEARLS looks really good to me.

i did the same thing to both of them, so i am not sure why one headed towards the bright light at the end of the universe and one looks really nice.

thanks again to noob and sara for the words of kindness and encouragement!!
