Creating Female Seeds Using Colloidal Silver - With High Brix

My first attempt at seed production failed on step 1 - pollination..... I think I cut the pollen containing branches too soon (put in jar of water in different room)... never got pollen from him.

So I backed up a step and tried my luck at pollinating only. I believe it worked but I'll put a pic up and maybe you can tell me if I was successful. The flowers that I tried to pollinate are much darker and shrinking. Top flower was NOT pollinated, bottom was. I used both a male and female AK47 so no C.S. was involved. If I do get seeds from this AK, I will try to grow out a female and apply the C.S. in an attempt to make my own feminized AK47's as I have not been able to find any.

I cut clones at various times from a Feminized Serious 6 (Sativa) and sprayed with Colloidal Silver about 3 weeks. I believe he is almost ready. The female is close behind and with any luck they will be ready about the same time. Left is the Male, right is the Female. This time around I will put them both in an outbuilding and let them do their own thing with just a little help shaking the pollen out when the time appears right.

Looks good Beav. That dude will start popping any day no doubt.

Here are my little ones 26 days from seed. They got transplanted to 1 gal pots last week and will spend the next 2 weeks (3 weeks total +/-) in these pots before they go into their final homes. Notice the OG expression in that one lanky one in the back right. It's another attempt at running the Ghost Train Haze. The last one was really weird and funky, and I mildly neglected it. It still gave me 2+ zips and now that it has a nice cure, the smoke is really nice. So, I'm running it again and going to treat it better this time.

I must say...it's really cool running my own gear.

I might try out those 1 gallon pots. This summer I had plants growing in 2, 5, 15 and 20 gallon smart pots. I don't think I will go more than 5 from now on, plus I'm getting more than I can use so I want to concentrate on quality not quantity.
Seeing your temp/humidity meter reminds me.... this high 80-90% humidity we have been having is really helping me out at harvest time. I put everything in the drying room and set the De-Humidifier to keep it at around 62%... piece of cake!

"IF" I manage to get some seeds I would like to grow out a couple Lani's, Serious 6's and AK47's. Eventually I'd like to make my own AK47 feminized seeds... that should be a good winter project:thumb:

Question regarding making your own feminized seeds.....

I have this one AK47 female plant that I hope has been pollinated by a male AK47 (same seed company.) If I take a couple of those seeds and grow them out and then spray one with colloidal silver to get pollen and treat the other female with it, will the resulting feminized seeds be stable like they would be from one of the big houses or will I get a bunch of seeds with different characteristics? I guess I'm asking about stability but having trouble putting it in words.

Well, the truth is... there is always a chance there will be diverse phenotypical expression as the lineage of each strain is in the plants/seeds, and not just the phenotype being expressed at the time. The main thing you get from feminized seeds is females. Now if you do some "selfing" and back-crossing, you can narrow the genetic possibilities dramatically. I'm not a breeder and can't speak in great depth outside what I've read and learned on my own, but it takes several generations and multiple back-crosses to acceptably isolate a particular phenotype although each stage makes it closer to what you may want.

Does that make sense?

Yes it does but considering my age I guess I'll be content to just grow and consume whatever comes up:tokin:

not sure my second silver girl is flipping dagnabbit.

might need to get the gooder product. dunno if the one I got is doing it.

first pollination took I think. but as I said, I think she was a he from the gitgo. the first silver girl that is.

Some fine looking beans AS...and a nice upside is the fact the buds they're in will STILL provide some really nice produce. I ground about 1/2 of each seeded plant between my fingers and used a very sharp knife to carefully carve it off like charras. I let it dry a few days and put it in the vaporizer with some cured flowers...YUM!

Grats on a successful bean run man. :thumb:

edit: I still have the other half of those seeded plants in jars. I read many breeders prefer to store their beans on buds while they cure...good enough for me.

Thanks Gov. Pretty happy things went well. I agree with you on seeded buds. They still smoke nice. I've been vaping AK47 seeded buds and can hardly notice the difference between that and the sinsemilla buds.
Some of us still remember having nothing but seeded bud back in the 60s and 70s. Was a little bit of a pain to deseed but we never complained about the buzz.

I didn't smoke in the 60's, but most of the 70's for sure and it was like opening cracker jack every time. sometimes half the bag would end up being seeds/stems. I'd love to have some of those landrace beans I threw away by the handful for sure, but the weed today (at least mine anyway) makes it so I don't wish for the good ole days.

Good question because I actually wondered about that myself. I have them in jars filled to the top and don't think I have boveda packs in them. i'll slip my humidor hygrometer in there and see what it says.

Yep, I know what ya mean My bags were loaded with seeds and stems back in the 80s too. My connections weren't very good back then.

I think that's just more of what things were like in general. My connection was as reliable and had as good of stuff as most folks were getting, but it was still a crap shoot. cheech & chong driving around trying to "score some smoke" was a reality for me, and if you stumbled across some, it was a crap shoot as to how good it was. I remember the elation once it was mission accomplished and the stuff was actually decent...ffs, I don't miss it. lmfao

edit: ...and that was mostly in 1980-81 in Northglenn

:laughtwo: I hear ya. With what I know today it was 5% hit and and 95 miss for me :laughtwo: Now that I look back on it I think half the time the buds were harvested 2-4 weeks too soon. Smoke enough and you get a decent buzz though.

You weren't too far away from me. I lived in South East Denver and Aurora back in the 80s. Lived in Northglenn for a short stint back in 99 just off of I25 and 120th.
