Crawdaddy's Fall 2013 TopLED COB Grow

just checked on the 3 plants under 200 W Diamond Series, and one word WOW!, I swear the Hawaiian Snow tops stretched 2" in 24 hours and the other 2 an inch at least. This was more along the lines of what I was expecting out of the other 4 plants under TopLED COB. But I do not think it the light, I think it was a combo of factors. Anyhow picture update on the TopLED COB plants tonight, in dark cycle now for few more hours.

Here is the 5 day update for 4 plants under Top LED COB light.

I am still not happy with these plants. Still not sure of cause but they just not getting much bigger. The Hawaiian Snow and Brainstorm with EXACT same genetics under other light are doing so well, but these ones not really. I am not passing judgement on light, maybe soil mix and or overwater are my two biggest suspects. Kind of embarrassed to show pics but here they are...

its partly the light for sure bro, my other 2 Timewreck are 3 times the size of the one under the COB, its a different pheno but evrything is smaller and weeker. Nice scrog you have going there, looks like that Diamond series is a good light:)

If it the light I am wondering if I can still use it but with supplemental spectrums? Like maybe one additional UFO on the other side? Draxlin has the COB and his seem to be healthy, not real big but healthy. Would hate for it to go completely to waste. the MARS 2 lights seem to be kickin ass though.

And thanks on the SCROG, I like how they are going, makes up for the other ones being a disappointment, so far.

What's your ds100 doing ? Perhaps you could switch it w/ the TopLED COB & UFO for a couple days ...
Should answer the light question pretty quick ... :thumb:

The DS100 is lighting my clones/mother plants. Plus only being 100W not powerful enough for the 3X3 space. I was considering using it as supplemental to the COB light, but I am just going to let them finish out and see what happens, then give the COB/UFO another try with more control over other factors. Instead of trying new soil mix at same time.

Hey craw, I just read this thread start to finish. Im really glad that the advanced led tent is running well. I've never used those soils so I'm not sure but I think some of it was in the medium. I have a OG Kush growing in one of those 15 gallon airpots and its really digging it but its not in soil. I have noticed watering new seedlings or clones in those tiny airpots is easier when you can set them into some solution, watering from the bottom, I've also used wet paper towels stuffed into the bottom when its winter time and there on a heating pad to hasten germination.
I went all in led a couple years ago any spent over 3500 bucks on five lamps and had horrid results, I resold them at a loss and bought Six 1000 watt xtreme nano dimmables. I am waiting a couple more years to get another led going.
Not that it matters cause its just how i do it but I get all my training and tying down done before they go into flower, you might want to try it unless you do t have the room in veg? They do take up a lot of space once they go sideways but its amazing how just giving them a little lean can really stimulate those lowers.
Please feel free to swing by my way anytime and pm me anytime.
Do you think the kitty could be part of the cause of the mites? Or was it from friends clone? I have two dogs and a cat here and they want to come in and I feel bad when its bad weather but there NEVER allowed in, ever! Once again just how i do it, I'm not trying to be bossy or anything, I just want to see you rock it!

Hey bro get some more lights I think addict is going into withdrawals haha

Best of buds to you my friend!

Thanks Bro, same to you.

Welcome aboard man, I appreciate any input so don't be shy :)

Yea the small airpots can be a pain, but i think it finally got it wired, I just use a small 8 oz coke bottle instead of my gallon milk jug container and i can poor water in slow enough that it soaks in instead of run off.

I think that was one of my messups with the TOP LED COB plants, I trained to far into flower. I was trying to mimic Light Addict's results and failed completely lol. In the future I am planning on vegging in one tent and moving to another for flower with plenty of room to train/veg in veg tent. Or just running the light in tent then in 18/6 until ready to flip. Right now I just have these 2 tents but hoping to be able to afford a third 4' X 4' after the new year.

I think the 50/50 Happy Frog/Ocean forest mix was too much for these plants too. Plus I really soaked it down before transplanting them, too much so I think.

with regards to LED, I think they have gotten a lot better in last few years. Plus there are a ton out there that just plain suck. Like in any new industry have to pick the good ones cause there going to be lots of bad new products. I made mistake with the COB unit and trying something brand new, but I am hoping it will work out with a few supplemental lights, because I like the COB idea, it really seems to put out some intense focused light, just not enough wavelengths in this particular one. LEDs just have so much intrinsic advantages over HID, I feel that they will be the lighting of choice for everyone in 5-10 years, like reduced consumption and reduced heat. You should consider buying a veg or small flower panel again from manufacturer where others are getting good results.

With regard to mites, you may be right about the cat. Did not think about that, as of last check I think i killed them off. But will check again soon, must be vigilant. May have to ban my growing buddy, he is so curious, he has started using the corner of the Gorilla grow tent as a scratching post so it may be the end of his growing adventures anyhow. I about wrung his little neck when I first busted him doing it, but he ran fast, he knew I was pissed off. I love that cat though, he has personality and he will talk to you, he is the only one of the 3 that sleeps with me. The other two sleep on the bed when we not in it, but wont when we in it, go figure lol.

Lastly i have been observing your and Capn's thread, I really am intrigued by the cube grows in airpots. That or ronnie8669's setup he has in his grow journals seems kick ass to me. Not sure when or if i make jump to hydro though. Need to find my phenos first.

Still got to read back and catch up.

The Double Berry caught my eye, I grew that last round. Lovely strain to smoke and a pleasure to grow. Hope you are enjoying it my friend.

:)

they're growing out of the nutrient burn, I wouldn't worry about anything.

Thanks guys.

Just checked on the 3 plants under the DS. Wow, they are going nuts, this was what I was expecting out of a early flower stretch. Now I am going to have to figure out how to raise light sometime in the next week.

That cola was nice and on track to get fat

Glad we get to see them finish this time

Chronic weekend to ya Crawdad :thumb:

Thanks Chronic, hope yours is going well.

Can you hang a "Hot Shot No-Pest Strip" in there?

I would but it my office too, paranoid about breathing it. I have not seen any sign of mites since last mighty wash treatment.

Here is my 5 day update for the plants under 200W Diamond Series...

Foliar fed about an hour before light came on with Flowers Kiss

After light came on split a gallon of water with just 1/8 tsp FF Open Sesame in it between the 3 plants.

I am still pleased with progress, trimmed out most of growth under screen, maybe a few more branches to get but probably 90% done.
