Crawdaddy's Fall 2013 LED Test Grow

Well tried to get away with no exhaust fan. Got hot last few days. highs in low 90's. So had to get a fan. Local grow store only had 2 sizes 4" and 6". ~150 cfm and 435 cfm. I knew the 6" WAY too big but it only 30% more $$$. So I got it a speed regulator, no way I use all its power. Plus I will need it in future if my plans come together. Duct and duct clamp and I was gtg....

Until I get home and realize the thing is WAY too big and heavy to hang from my grow tent. So I decided just push air in.

Set it up....

Snaked it to the back and top..

and in we go..

Well a final side effect was a FAT tent...

Gives the plants just a bit more room right? LOL!

I have the variable speed about 1/5 on. Probably turn down as it cools off.

Anyhow plants have fresh air now too, and after running for 10 mins it 2 degrees colder in my tent then outside it, 86 vs 88. Still too warm though, warmest part of day though. It was high of 93 i think. :woohoo:

hi crawdaddy!

subscribed, and im interesting in with led lighting.
have a nice grow i wish.
i have 1 blueberry in my grow tent. check it out my grow journal.

Ummm, Crawdaddy.. most people suck out, not blow in... makes the negative pressure, allows for carbon scrubbing if needed and is more efficient in exchanging air. That's why you see people gripe or joke about "tent suck". Sometimes you'll see someone boost the passive air intake with a smaller fan than the exhaust fan, but generally speaking ami, you want that tent sucking in, not blowing out. You'll never be able to carbon scrub it otherwise

:Namaste:

Rune, i tried to make it exhaust, but was too big and heavy. Worried that the tent poles with plastic connectors would break and big ass fan fall on my poor plants. I feel like I am getting more then enough air exchange, only 2 degree diff in outside temp in temp in the most intense light. Plus I have no close neighbors and no intention of carbon scrubbing, I want to smell my babies, nothing yet of course.

Now that I think about it I could probably put it on the ground next to plants instead of hanging it. Think that may be necessary? Considering I only need the fan in hot weather.

:thanks:

Probably be fine then, but in all honesty, I'm not sure what pressure coming in will do when the buds start to form and get heavy, but I can't say for sure on that. I wish I didn't have to deal with odor control, my girl and I both love the smell, lol. She wants me to make her some incense from veg fan leaves :) They do make variable speed controls for those fans though and some folks, like bassman59 have built a small pvc frame inside the tent to keep tent suck from being such a negative factor. Can't wait until my own glowy portal of doom light gets here, lol. :Namaste:

They girls just woke up and got a morning soak of full strength FF Tiger Bloom fert and Super Thrive. Probably wont feed for another two waters will see.

Temp is same as yesterday was just as hot, cool off already. I HATE not having A/C.

Picture update in next couple days. I see a difference every day.

Crawdaddy sorry to be late to the party but I am subbed now on with the show. Lookin Good so Far as far as the distance the lights need to be away from the plants I can't get any closer than 18" or my plants will start to bleach. I'm almost ready to wrap up my first grow in 30 some years but I must say I am sold on LEDs I've reviewed my grow thus far and will be trying hard not to make the same mistakes again The next grow I'm really gonna be going for quality and, yield. What a fun hobby!!!!!!!!!!!!!:peace::high-five::thumb::goodjob::bravo::circle-of-love:

Welcome Harley!

Yea I love my newly taken up again hobby. It is therapeutic for me in so many ways.

I am sold on LEDs too, yes may be a bit more $$$ up front. But they last longer, less heat and less energy consumption=less contributions to climate change, we all have to do our part no matter how minor. when my normal light bulbs burn out I have been buying LED's for them too.

My next step is to get a 400 W class LED for a 4' X 4' tent, but i need $$$$, just need a little patience, hopefully be getting a raise at work this month.

In that case yes I am, seems like a good light. But I refuse to buy a product made in China if I can get something like it made in USA. It may cost more, but IMO quality much better. And like the environment, I like to do what I can for our economy.

Also, with the single board design it appears to have, you blow one LED and your fed. One of reasons I am thinking about instead of buying 1 400w(or if i can afford it an 800W) getting either 4 X 100W or 2 X 200W. Plus would give more flexibility. The price is not that much different, and if went with CWL lights it actually a tad cheaper to get 2X200W then 1X400W and 4X200W is cheaper then 1X800W. Probably cause of the UVBs.

I am thinking my next purchase maybe a 200W Solar Flare to use in conjunction or separate from my DS100. I am not convinced the UVB on the Solar Storms do anything.

In the future, if ALL my plans come together I will need a light for my mothers, I am thinking this current set up would be perfect for 3-4 mother plants.

But I change my mind on a daily basis about what configuration to get. Just need to be patient and let this test play out. I should get plenty of smoke from my outdoor grow(knocking on wood). I just love all the possibilities, makes my mind wander.

In fact I found a new lighting company I have to look into more today, Lush LED lights.

I totally understand the constant evolution of plans myself, lol. It's definitely an ongoing, constant evolution of plans. I just got my TopLED today, so we'll see how it does. This one isn't flimsy like a lot of the other MiC LEDs I've seen, so here's hoping it's as good as it appears to be :) :Namaste:

You mean to see this ISN'T flimsy? I am confused LOL.
