Crashdog's 1st Grow Journal - How To Torture Small Leafy Things - DWC

Ugggg,
Broke a stem today. Was one of the new ones after topping. I supported it a bit with a tie.
Hope it makes it

Wilma is doing great and Wendy is, well being Wendy. Wonder Woman is keeping her in line.

Alice and Goldie just started thier 4th week of Veg. I've been doing a lot of tucking of leaves. I wonder if I should raise the light to get some height out of them. its at 18" now.

Hiya Crashdog, hope you don't mind me barging in on your thread. I've gone from page one to question. In your system, do you have anyway to access your reservoirs in any shape or form if you put a scrog in? And if not, can we not improvise?

Crap!!
Dead leaves on that branch. Oh well I guess she don't like bondage. Or maybe she said the safe word but I didn't hear cause I was cranking the tunes.

Shit happens, but even the branch I snapped on the auto looked like it was doomed going almost full wilt on me, but the main growing tip stayed kinda firm and it is now recovering from my tender abuse.

Tape that bitch up with electrical tape for three days and shell form a nice knot in the break. We did that deliberately many times on ours and she has healed up real nice and it made her grow really nicely. We did it to the branches that were growing too tall to slow them down and they did but they come back with a vengeance! So proud of the canopy we got going on. Damn near perfectly even save for a little bit taller in the middle but there's soooo much photosyntheticly available radiation right below the MINI that those are bound to be bigger. Got a pic update on your girls? They grow so fast at this stage in DWC

Did some LST'ing on the girls around 9:00 PM on 3-13.

I checked on the break and its not a total loss. It's showing some new growth in the middle. :yahoo: I had turned the fan oscillation off so it wouldn't be blowing on it.
Last night I also positioned its big fan leaf that goes to that stem right under the light.

This morning I was amazed at how quickly they recovered from the LST

Big Storm day today. 18"-24" on the way. Got to go run some extension cords to the generator in case i loose power.

Because i left the bedroom door open. I heat with wood so my house is real dry. I vent outside so it sucks the dryness into the room.
If i vent inside the room I can get the humidity way up but it starts to get to hot in there. It's a never ending battle.

You can always hang a wet towel in there with them to raise the humidity or even simply leave a bucket of water in there to evaporate.

I use a towel and a humidifier. But when I'm working in there working with the tent open and the bedroom door open the humidity will drop 15% in 20 or less. min. My living room is at 23% right now. In my tent its 45%. The humidity changes reek more havoc on my guitars then my weed. I'll have just the opposite battle this summer when i move my veg room to the basement. My sump pump goes off every 2 min. I live next to the CT river. I'll have to buy another AC for the grow room/tent. YAAAA for my electric bill!!!!

Wow, I haven't updated in a bit. I spend all day reading everyone else's Journals then don't update mine.

Finally got my scrog up. Slight miscalculation with the height so I ended up rotating the pipe to get the screws lower. I believe it's at 7.5 from the top of the netpot with 2" squares.

Updated my air pump. It's supposed to be 793 gph. Not much difference from the duel version of this pump that was going to air stones to 2 of the buckets but I see a huge difference in the Pre-Made buckets that don't use air stones. They just use the drain tube to get air into the reservoir and they each had some little pump.
I'm using one of those pumps now to de-chlorinate some water for brewing up some tea later today. Yaa i get to play with bat and worm poop. Maybe my dog wants to contribute? I think not.

I'm going to start building my 4+1 RDWC today. I have the buckets, pump ( 400gph) and some 1.15 pvc. Ordered the Uniseals yesterday.
I'll get the holes cut today (maybe). Still need piping for the pump.
I'm not quite sure how I'm going to lay it all out yet. I want the reservoir out of the tent. Do you need 2 returns coming out of your Reservoir? All Pictures i see show 2. I want my pump drawing from the furthest bucket and pumping into the top of the reservoir. Same design as i have now only with a 5th bucket outside of the tent with one drain pipe and and one fill. I don't see why that wouldn't work. I'll do some more research before cutting holes.

I started 2 more beans friday night. Liberty Haze and White Widow. I'll take some clones then throw 3 of the gals into flower at the end of the month. Wendy will be put in Veg room.
I want to use all the same size buckets so I can just take the Netpot out of veg room and throw it onto the rdwc in flower tent.

I have extend my PVC light fixture for a second light. The cukes and maters have fucked me over and are still alive and hogging the T5.

The downside to those buckets that use the tubes is the bubbles are so large, unlike bubbles from an air stone. Easier to diffuse oxygen into water with more surface area. That scrog setup looks great Crash and it's awesome that your getting your perpetual on already, harvests on the horizon!

Nice work! A bit of advice, I'm running a rdwc and wanted my res out of the tent. But because you have to run the hoses out it is now almost as high as the water level in the buckets and won't flow. At least for me. Any suggestions would be great because I'd love to have my res outside the tent. Especially during flower.

In my mind, the only way around it is to cut a slit at floor level. Not sure I'm ready to cut my tent yet though

Good point. I'll probably cut some holes in them for tubing and drop an air stone in them.
Thanks

I have 2 vents at ground level that are at the same height as my pipes would be. I just need one 90 degree up bend near the reservoir to get the water to the top of the reservoir. That will all be flexable hose.

Oh ok cool! Mine are all 8" off the floor

I'm running a similar setup. I have the bubble tubes that force water up to the rings on top. I was wondering if I needed more air too. I ended up adding a stone to the res because I noticed a slight funk and some slime after a week or so. Now all the pots and the water in them look clear as spring water even after a week. Id like to think all is well. But this is my first rodeo too

What you're describing sounds like the water farm kit that uses air to water the plant via drip ring. Airstones in the water is crucial for good oxygen levels in the water. A good recipe is lots of bubbles, 65f max res temps and we use hydroguard to battle the root rot. Also make sure no lights getting in the res and that you don't have any clear tubing. As long as you have good temps no light and tons of bubbles it'll be good and it never hurts to use something like hydroguard! But if your water is nice and clear then it sounds like the air stone did the trick. Don't be fooled by nutrient staining sometimes the roots can go brown but it's not always rot, we go by the smell. Glad your res issue has cleared up, that can be a bummer!
