Re: Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed St

Hey graytail ive heard from sweetsue that u are a big tech guy. Would cobs or quantum boards be a better option then blurple leds? I'm not really a diy guy but I've seen some inexpensive options and would prefer white light if it doesn't hurt the yield from a switch from 600w hps. For a 4x4x6.5 tent how much cob or qb wattage would u recommend?

Yes, white LEDs are far better than blurples ... but at 2-3 times the cost. I have a source for less expensive boards, so that can be managed. It's still more expensive, but not as much.

For COBs and boards, the simple number to shoot for is 35-40 watts per sqft. So a 4x4 needs ~560-640 watts. I did boards for my 4x4 for less than $900. That was a couple months ago, and heatsink prices have gone up, but $1000 will still outfit a 4x4 with extremely efficient white light that's unlikely to go obsolete for a few years at least - leading edge stuff.

That setup will get you 50% more PAR over a 600W hps, too. It's equivalent (legitimately) to a 1000W DE hps. :thumb:

But blurples are less than a buck a watt. You could easily get the same PAR for $600, just hotter and not as efficient. It makes the most sense in areas that have high-cost power and warm climates.

:Namaste:

My QB's are running at less than half power 16" above my plants and are just hands down the best lights ive used so far. I have 2 of the HLG 260w kits.

Im in a 4x4 running 4 hydro plants. I can put together one of the qb kits in 15-20minutes. There's a video on HLG website that shows step by step how to wire them. Very simple build.

In general I'm really impressed how UDs turned out this year. Almost everything I smoke is VERY potent and smell/taste is top notch. Chem as always is closest to my heart, but this Blueberry UD beats everything in taste and potency department even if buds came out quite small.

Here it's getting colder, but still sunny. I risked a bit and went to see Manipuris today... from afar. Nothing happened, no cops jumping at me from the bushes, so I'm gonna assume it's safe enough to come back in a few days and take some pics.
