Come Grow With Me: A Beginners Guide

Time for some updates & pics. A few days ago I noticed a slight Calcium issue. This was on 2 of my plants (Bruce Banger & White Widow). A Calcium issue usually appears on the lower leaves first & will usually look like rust spots. Here's a few pics of what I seen.

I had no CalMag on hand so had to buy a bottle which was about $15 for a Qt. Some people like to mix this as a Foliar Spray & mist the leaves. I just add 2 ml. per gal. to my nute mix & feed with that.

Here's a couple pics of the Gorilla Girl. She's off to a really slow start to say the least. I'm not so sure about this topping info I posted. I Topped between the 2nd & 3rd Nodes & there are still only 2 branches growing out of it. I thought there was suppose to be 4 ? Got me ?

She appears to be getting too much light as her leaves are starting to Taco.

These are pics I took today. The Gorilla Girl is still in her 2 gallon plastic pot. Hope she grows her wings & takes off soon. She looks as if she just might.

The Bruce Banger I up-potted 2 days ago. She's making a comeback now so I'll start training her better in a few days.

Here's the White Widow. I was planning on up-potting her on Monday; but I have to work Sat., Sun. & there's a chance I might get hired. I've worked for this guy several times & he always calls me when he has too much work or someone's out. We'll see what happens.
Anyway, because I think I may not get a day off for a while I did the up-pot early. Here's the before & after pics.

And then there's the Peyote Wi Fi. I was planning to up-pot her tomorrow at 6 weeks old but she got her up-pot today also. She went from a 5 gallon bag to a 10 gallon. She will be in the 5 x 5 for a few days. I watered / fed her right after the up-pot & it's heavy when it's not wet; so I can imagine the weight now. So once she is ready for her next feeding she will go in the 3 x 3 all by herself where I'll continually train her to fill out the tent before flipping to flower.
I had to cut the 5 gal. bag off with scissors to transplant into the 10 gal. I just cut 2 sides & peeled it back. Stepped on both sides of the peeled back bag & lifted the plant to it's new home.
Here's some before & after pics.

Peyote Wi-Fi : (I mix 3.5 gallons at a time once a plant is this size)
1) Hydro Guard : 7 ml. (2 ml. per gal.)
2) CalMag : 7 ml. (2 ml. per gal.)
3) Terpinator : 7 ml. (2 ml. per gal.)
4) Mega Crop : 14 gr. (4 gr. per gal.)
5) pH Down : 7 ml. to reach pH 6.4

Bruce Banger & White Widow : Same strength as above but No Terpinator added as of yet.

Gorilla Girl : (Her mix is weaker)
1) CalMag : 2ml.
2) Mega Crop : 3.5 gr.
3) pH Down : 2 ml. to reach 6.4 pH.

***The Gorilla Girl Mix comes out to 735 ppm*** My Tap Water is 8.0 pH & 160 ppm.
So if you subtract the water ppm from the total ppm's (735 - 160 = 575 ppm) you get the nutrient ppm's which is 575 ppm.

The 2 gallon pots only take about 36 oz to get run off & stay moist 3 - 4 days.
The 5 gallon pots take about 3/4 gallon to get run off & also stay moist 3 - 4 days.
I have no idea on the 10 gallon as of yet. I only used a 10 gal. once before & it was a few years ago. I'm sure it will be at least 1.5 gallons for 20 % run off. I'll let you know soon.

Here the past few days my tent temps have been 79 - 82 & I like it to be more 75 - 77 F. I tried removing the filter from the intake fan & just blowing outside air through the fan; but that didn't do much. Sucky ass plastic inline fans aren't any good. Don't buy one.
So I thought I'd give this set up a try today.

Well that fan isn't powerful enough either. I also found out the Ink Bird does not work on a fan. I don't get it. You would think the Ink Bird power would shut off anything it's running at the temps it's set for if the tent temps are in the range you set it for. Hmmmm, I wonder if I'm doing something wrong ? It works fine on my heater so not sure.
Anyway, because my Intake Air isn't doing the trick I can't run my exhaust during lights out. Too much suction even turned down low. I'll pick up a good fan real soon & fix this issue.

I like your intake... light leak approved....

Yeah, not much chance of light getting through. Total "U" shape at the bottom & the Window Screen is covered with a Window AC Filter. Getting a new fan today so I can get more air flow.
Made the mistake of turning the Intake & Exhaust off at lights out . At lights on there was 88% Humidity & plants were sweating bullets. Shook them off & put a fan on them. Seem to be fine.

Good thing plants are just vegging.... I got four fans and exhaust fan. Only one fan on bottom turns off with lights. You must be talking about exhaust fan turning off at light out.

I have the Intake & the Exhaust plugged into a surge protector power strip. Somehow I hit the switch on the power strip & shut the fans off. Didn't notice it because I heard the 6 gal. humidifier running. Noticed right away when I opened the tent. Yeah, glad I'm vegging or it probably would have been over for this run.

Today I moved things around again. Still trying to get the Intake cooling to work the way I planned it; but maybe my idea wont work ? I'll give it another shot or two before I go a different route. I'm not overly concerned about my current temps for Veg as they'll do fine. But cooler temps are way better for flower.
Here's some plant pics. Looks like I may up-pot Gorilla Girl before flower after all. She's finally starting to grow. I've been trimming off the leaves on the under side of the bottom branches & have started some minor LST on the 3 little ones.

The Peyote Wi Fi got moved to the 3 x 3 tent in the shed today. I'll Super Crop & take Clones when I do a defoliation next weekend. I'll give her a week to recover & then start Flower. I think that should do the trick to fill out the 3 x 3.
I have about 6" on all 4 sides of the tent to fill in & I think 2 weeks will do the trick. She looks droopy because I waited till she needed to be fed to move her. Too damned heavy & awkward to move when it's wet.
Here's a few pics.

Bruce Banger should get interesting. 1st I topped & quad lined her 4 branches (2nd & 3rd nodes). I cut the 1st node off.
So 4th node had 2 branches coming out where I topped. I topped those 2 branches so now each of those branches has 2 branches.
I also topped the ends of the 4 quad line branches. 3 of those branches have 2 branches growing out & the 4th branch has 3 branches growing out. Must have fimmed it. That's it for topping this one. Wanted to see what happens when I did this.

I'm way too cheap to cut fabric pots when up potting. post #544
It is a pain but I turn inside out by rolling down from top.

Started some autos in large final pots, thought I had nute burn but after
looking at pictures for examples, it looks like overwatering. Brown tips and drooping leaves.
A friend had about 50 of the 5 gal. bags. I gave him $20 for 25 of them so not a big deal. A lot different when you pay more of course.
Brown Tips from over watering ? Never heard that before. Like Burnt or Wilted within the leaf brown ?
Drooping leaves can go both ways. Just depends on the amount of droop & how sudden it happens really. I purposely let my leaves start to droop slightly as that tells me when to feed in a 10 gal. pot. Too big & heavy to be lifting to check weight.
Of course anyone should be able to tell the difference if over or under watered by whether the soil is wet or dry.

Hey All, Just a little update. Today is day 30 for these 3 little gals. I'm hoping they fill out at the end when I let them grow vertical. Oh well, it is what it is. I'll just have to Veg longer then planned to get them big enough.
Here's a couple of group shots of the 3.

As you can see I've been doing some trimming & LST on the Bruce Banger. I toped this one on the ends of the 4 cross branches so there's 2 branches growing from each end now. I also topped the top twice so it has 2 branches each with 2 of it's own branches. That gives me 12 main branches to work with. Never done it this way before so let's see what happens.
Here's a couple pics of that one.

The White Widow has gained on the Bruce Banger some. Probably because I slowed the BB down trimming & topping so much. I'm good with that as I want to try to keep the canopy as even as possible between the 3 plants so they all get light.
So I topped the White Widow just once at the normal 4th node. I've also trimmed & LST'd her. I'm enjoying the different Topping & LST during this grow. I was getting bored doing the same thing over & over. Now we all get to see how things turn out when done different ways.
Here's the WW.

And then there's Gorilla Girl. She's slowly but surely catching up. This one I topped at the 2nd node because it was suppose to grow 4 branches out. It did not ! I got the usual 2 branches. So I was left with nodes 1 & 2 to LST while the other 2 branches grow out the top.
Anyway, I plan to trim her up tomorrow so I can 4 point her better. Once she dries enough I'll up-pot her so all 3 will be on the same page.

9-386.JPG

I'm feeding all 3 plants at 4 grams MC per gal. till I get 20% run off. Pots are taking 3 - 4 days to dry for the next feeding.

Now for the Main Course. The Peyote Wi Fi. This girl is doing pretty good so far. I think she likes her new home. Temps out there have stayed 70 - 77 F & the RH is staying at 55% with the Humidifier running on low during lights on only.
Her 4 main side branches are just a couple inches from the tent walls so getting close to Flower time.
Tomorrow I will trim her & take Clones. So we get to use the bubble cloner then. This will be another 1st for me. I've cloned before; just not in a bubble cloner. I also plan to Super Crop 4 - 6 Branches on her tomorrow since I plan to start Flower in 2 weeks or less.
This girl is being fed 2 ml. per gal. of Cal Mag (I'll probably up that to 3 ml. soon), 3 ml. per gal. of Terpinator (Just upped that from 2 ml.) & 5 gr. per gal of MC.
I'll keep increasing the amounts every 2nd or 3rd feeding till I get to about 900 ppm or the plants show a toxicity.
Once the buds start to plump up I'll try to increase some more.
She takes about 1.5 to 1.75 gal. per feeding so I'm mixing 3.5 gallons of nutes each time.
Here's a few pics.

OK guys; I'm not sure whether I should say "This is how to clone" -or- "How not to clone" ...lol. I've never been very successful at it. About a 10% average so not very good at all. But I'm trying to do it differently by using the Bubble Cloner so we'll see how it goes.

So in yesterdays pics you can see how the Peyote Wi Fi looked. This morning she got all her underside twiggy branches cut off & I thinned the leaves out some. I also took 9 cutting for clones from her. 4 of them were the tops from the plant & the other 5 were from the bottom of the plant. That's all the cutting this plant gets. Just some LST till she fills back out some & then to flower.
So here's how she looks after the cut job.

9-394.JPG

To start out I mixed up a gal. of nutes at 1 gr. per gal. & then pH'd it to 5.8 pH since this is a Hydro Cloner. Poured it into the bottom of the cloner & put the lid on without the Clone Collars. Plugged the Air Pump in to start oxygenating the water.

9-397.JPG

Now we're about ready to start our Clones. I use these small packets of Clonex Rooting Gel which will do 15 - 20 Clones. I poured 1/2 the packet into the little cup so I could twirl the end of the cutting in the gel.
