Colombian Gold Grow: Come Learn With Me How To Produce Your Own Seeds!

Well, life has gotten in the way of my journal and my plans. I was busy all day harvesting and trimming up my Hawaiian Kailua Pua plant. I wet trim removing as much stems as I can and then put about 30 grams of buds in paper lunch bags and into the fridge for the low and slow method of drying. Between that and keeping up with a 5 month old Boston Terrier hellion I kept busy today. Just when I think the place is puppy proof he goes running by dragging something else he found to play with.

Tomorrow I have to go help my lifelong friend cut up a red oak tree that came down in his neighbors yard when Michael came through here. Two of my friends are joining us. So four 60+ year old farts with chainsaws and splitting mauls. It will be hard work but good camaraderie and laughs no doubt. So it looks like it will be Thursday before I can get to a tutorial on how I plant cuttings. Remember, I already took 2 cuttings off that one CG plant night before last so by Wednesday it will have been in the cup of water for 5 days. I'm curious to see how they look after that long. Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

I have no clue what medium you grow your plants in but if ProMix is available in your area consider giving it a try. I use the BX, many use the HP because it's more common in stores and shops. I don't know the cost of this in the "real world" but in my little Podunk town it's pretty inexpensive.
I grow in a special blend that I've been using for about a year with no issues.

I can get some pretty good composted soil locally. I normally mix that with a bit of FFOF, some Happy Frog soil conditioner, perlite, and bone meal.

I'm running a couple in straight coco this time too. I dig it. I just gotta remind myself to be more proactive with watering.

I cut this batch of soil pretty heavy with perlite too, so I could keep the watering schedule pretty close to the coco plant.

Splitting maul=sore back. You better get your salve ready.
I have been using the promix hp. I really like it and have good results. I think a bale will fill 8 to 10 5 gallon pots. It is void of all Nutes and a perfect rooting medium.
My first Cannabis clones, I used the grodon cubes with the dome. Then I remembered that 30 years ago, when I worked in a commercial greenhouse, we would take 1000’s of begonias cuttings and root them in 4” pots with a peat/perlite mix. We would dip in a power root hormone and they would take off. We would then transplant the 4” clone into baskets or larger pots. I like the solo cup or 4” better than the little cubes.

I tried the FFOF last spring. I thought it was nice soil, but a little on the expensive side. And several people warned me there could be hot spots in it where pockets of nutrients settled. And these hot spots could conceivably burn my plants. So I dumped the whole bag into a 30 gallon tote and mixed the heck out of it before I used it.

What I don't like about the peat pellets is that for me it limits the size of the cuttings. Planting cuttings into the solo cups just feels "right" if that makes any sense. Once I'm able to remove the domes for good they can take as long as they need to root. And at that point I am 99.84% positive they will grow roots.

Last night while I was watching one of my new favorite football players (Patrick Mahomes) I sat here and harvested seeds from a cross I bred this summer. The father was a Nirvana Northern Lights IBL and the mother an Hawaiian Kailua Pua plant. Because I LOVE both strains a whole lot I dusted her pretty heavily. I've gotten through most of the buds (maybe 15-20% left) and this is my haul so far.

I spoke earlier about the devil dog pup we're fostering. The wife took him to Petsmart on Saturday for their Halloween photo shoot. Don't let the looks deceive you, he is Satan's spawn even if he looks cute as can be in this picture.

Going to go watch my NY Giants get their butts kicked again.

Yeah, that FFOF is about 10% of the mix. I've never tried using it straight. I stretch a $20 bag quite a ways. The bulk of the soil mix is perlite and the local composted soil.
I'm leaning more toward coco now. I like everything about it so far. This may actually be my last soil grow....

 I'm soooo intimidated.

Great seed haul beez! :high-five: I personally love cleaning seeds out. Makes my heart beat faster in anticipation. Lol! I can tell with reasonable assurance the ones that'll express sativa from those, that go indica, or so I tell myself. To be honest I don't have enough grows under my belt to be anything close to authoritative, but I read a lot. So far, that's held true though, much like being able to identify the sexual inclination of a seed.

When I've been at this another twenty years I may be able to speak with more authority. :hugs:

Two glasses of wine with dinner. Makes me talkative. :battingeyelashes:

What're you thinking of jumping to Preston?

Right now I'm running 3 plants in Coco Loco. I like it but plan on researching what else is out there. I wont be doing a straight coco run until Jan-Feb.

I'm always open to suggestions...

Coco wise I just use the Cocotek pressed bricks and re hydrate them. No additives just straight coco in 3 gallon fabric pots. Only thing with the 3 gallon is that if you like your plants on the larger size you're watering 2x per day in the height of flower. Other than that the results are fast growing because it's hydro and it's very forgiving.

Hey beez I know you mentioned earlier 18/6 for your clones. Have you found that the best time cycle for rooting?

To be honest I've never tried any other light cycle. This works well for cuttings and seedlings so I just leave it alone. I know a plant does a lot of growing during lights out and I figure that includes roots. It seems the first sighting of roots is on the morning after the dark period.

Hi Beez, Newty sent me. This is great! I'm not ready to do this but it's exciting to get to know the workings.
Glad to have you. Hopefully we can learn a few things from each other as we go along.

The wood cutting party turned out to be a piece of cake. The tree wasn't huge, we had 3 chainsaws cutting away on it. And my buddy hired the two boys up the street to do all the heavy lifting. He also rented a log splitter for the day. So three of us sawing the wood, the two teenage boys rolling the logs to the splitter and after splitting tossing it on the truck. We started at 6:30am and were finished (the small limbs were left) by 11:00am Probably close to 2 cords of nice oak for next season. And we got breakfast out of the deal. Looks like I might get to that cutting/cloning tutorial after all.

Haha! Nice stuff Beez:) That dog is so darn cute, give him a big kiss on the lips from me! :D I have a beautiful big red oak tree in my yard, everyone’s favourite tree as we don’t have many red oak out here.

That seed haul is quite exciting! Congrats on the harvest:high-five:

Thanks Newty.....I look forward to seeing someone grow out some of the seeds from that cross. I currently have one of the Northern Lights X Dark Devil auto running as well as a Northern Light X Thin Mint. So no room in the tent for me.
