Colesdad Tries Again - LED - GGG Baby Freedom - Ideal420 Soil - 12/12 From Seed

Ah man CD, I've quickly gone back over the older threads. You are one tough and determined person. More so than most I would imagine. I have the weirdest question, because I've noticed you have changed almost everything about your set up numerous times and are still having the strangest things happen. Have you tested your water?

And sorry if this has been asked, but the cumulative 20+ pages were pretty heavy.

I've been using bottled water the entire time, I started this way because of the 420 Soil says this is best.
Most of my problem has been too much water. I stepped back a few weeks ago and decided to do hempy because my very first grow was hempy. I did two NLxBB and a Mango (something), each in a one gallon milk jug. I used coco and perlite mix, GH nutes and they grew. I nuted too soon and completely ruined them, so much so that iI pulled them up and tossed them. I started this journal using the 420 because it was a gift from them and I received my seeds from Herbies as a contest winner and a free tent from Sara with Mars Hydro. But I've never gotten over my tendencies to over water, thus my current hempy.
So far, so good. She growing still and have a dome over her, and as long as there is condensation in the dome I will not water. She is still using the water in the cube, when I see that she had used that, I will remove it and start hand watering.

Have you considered getting a $5 moisture probe? It's the only thing those probes are actually good at reading. I use the bucket lift technique myself. When it's dry it's very light. Any amount of water, still pretty heavy. Sometimes I wait until leaf droop happens so I know the soil is good and dry. I know you got this round :)

Do you see an issue?
My lights....
Mars hydro 300,about 30 inches high.
Two 100w cfl (5000k),each about 7 inches above.

Is it light burn? It seems kinda yellow on the outer edge. Or am I looking too hard?

Am I using too much light too soon, is the height of the cfl correct?

Edit: Not concerned about cotyledon, I know they get all ugly and die

Don't have any cal or mag additive right now, but I know for sure I need to grab some. Learned first hand about the def using led

Cole from what I understand about LED's you're referring to early LED technology that used purely red and blue diodes.
The marshydro you have has white and also UV LED which mitigate the problem.
The problem with early LED technology was due to the fact they didn't produce the required light spectrum and hence the plant needed additional cal/mag. The missing spectrumes caused the plant to not be able to start a biological process where it creates its own form of cal/mag.

Also a plant that small (1-2 sets of leaves) which is planted in soil would never require nutrients like cal or mag regardless of light source.

I have to agree with ruddie on these two points Colesdad :peace:

Ruddie, thanks for the info, and welcome to my journal! As far as older vs newer LED, I dunno. I do know that I had some calcium and magnesium def on my first grow so I need to grab some before too long. I understand that I must wait to add any nutes or supplements while she is so young.
Thanks for jumping in with comments and suggestions. Please stick around, my grow are always interesting lol

so how is the plant coming along I just started a new grow journal for the autos that I will be growing in my veg tent

She doing well. Still haven't watered yet! I turned off the led so now she is running off of two 100wat 5000k cfl bulbs. I'm probably going to give a tad bit of water today, we are heading to the lake for a few days so I just want to make sure she does okay.
I've been running lights 22/2,no special reason for the schedule. I'll snapa few pics this morning.

Something wrong?

The oldest leaves were under both led and cfl, so I dismissed the yellow on the tips because it may have been a light issue. But, the newest ones have ONLY been exposed to cfl, yet, seem to be following the same pattern.
The two cfl are 5000k, and about 8 inches above. Temp is around 74, humidity status around 45ish. She has only been watered once since birth, about 4 days ago, and she only got a little splash.
Do you think she is thirsty? She is in 100 percent perlite, should I water enough until I have it coming out the hole?

Damn, those are some purdy roots sir!

I'll give her a drink.

Also, talked to the wifey yesterday. Talked to her about things you and supergroomer (and g**gle) have said about bb. The pain clinic she sees tests everyone's urine every 3 months for pot, so she is kind of worried about that. But, she has finally agreed to try it! So, off to Herbies I go!

Have you thought about coco as a growing medium? It's almost impossible to over water - You feed and water daily ;)

I've noticed cal/mag deficiencies are much more common under HPS lighting, especially when a long veg period is implemented. Glad to hear your wife is willing to try now :)
Did you mean under LED lighting! I've noticed led grow require more cal/mag. I tried 50/50 coco perlite on my first grow trying hempy. It did seem to work, but I didn't have any coco this time. I'm assuming it is too soon for ANY additives in water at this time, because she is so young, right?
