If you don't mind, I will pull up a chair.
Not starting next grow till later this summer.

Welcome Gr865. What are you planning to grow when the time comes?

Yay! Thanks Otter and they are in soil already!

I have them in an elongated bucket with the heat mat against one wall, and a cover over the top to warm the atmosphere. They are currently at 24.9 C.

This time I decided to skip the paper towel and planted them directly into the 50% soil to seedling mix. The medium is damper than I am used to at the start. I have taken Gee man's advice and dampened it to the point at which a drip or two will result from a handful being squeezed. I've placed the solo sized plastic pots in turkey bags and sealed them. I prepared them with wicks so that I can pour a little water into the bags and leave them to wick.

Hey Con, welcome to the  What can I pour you to drink?

Oooh I think I'll join you GDB, chin chin!
Beer or a good scotch & water please, let's see some killer autos

Some Laphroaig if you'd like a dram :)

I'm so glad you and I are almost growing in tandem. You will be about two weeks ahead of me if I'm not mistaken.

Me to kinda curious about this LOS & how you're managing your light schedule to meet your DLI, any cold Tuskers?

Hello Shed, I've been looking forward to your arrival. How about a Virgin Mojito?

Thank you for finding that online calculator for the lights, and for talking it through with me. You helped me get a sense of it all and I feel better prepared going forward.

Interestingly we have not had loadshedding for two months. Of course there is much speculation that this is because the government have instructed Eskom to burn diesel to remain operational when generational capacity is compromised as an electioneering ploy (I voted today). The Minister of Electricity has told us that this is not the case and that they have fixed some of the problems they were having. We'll see what comes our way going forward.

Have a seat :)

Wooohooo drinks in here.....hmmmm I'll take a traditional absinthe please 🍵😵‍💫.

And I'll definitely be following along miss Ray ☺️
Omg, you're such a bad influence. The night I drank absinthe I got naked and in the swimming pool! Hell yeah, lets do a glass!

Reminds me of an awesome television series from a few years back called Carnivale. If you haven't seen it, try to find it. I think it'd appeal to your aesthetic and appreciation for the bizarre! It gets an IMDB rating of 8.4/10, a Metacritic rating of 63% and a rating of 87 % from Rotten Tomatoes.

Just popping in to see what's happening, and would love to follow along. :)
I really need to get my head wrapped around the DLI thing soon.
Maybe next grow I can get some practice in for that.
Exactly me too

Coming right up! Tobasco with that?

Thank you Jon! I'm also kinda hoping I may be able to seek your advice from time to time. For instance, with your knowledge of lighting and autos, do you think I'm in the correct ballpark with my numbers?
What can I get you to drink?

Omg Tok, my mouth watered. I do like a Gin Gimlet, and may I recommend my favourite Gin, the Triple Three African Botanicals described on their website as follows: " Made with Cape fynbos-inspired botanicals, including Buchu & Rooibos, this truly African gin delivers rich and punchy gin flavour. On The Nose A crack of the seal releases a beautiful bouquet of heart-warming scents. Herbaceous notes of tea leaves, buchu, rooibos, cloves, cedar wood and pine are carefully balanced with aromas of lemon peel, menthol, dark berries, moss and “earthiness”. On The Palate
Complex, herbaceous flavours mixed in to a juicy Juniper Berry character. This then ends off with toasty notes of rich forest honey, maple and almonds. The best choice to add that extra spark to a standard gin and tonic…

Nice to have you along :)
Hey Carmen - of course if I can help you I will. You know what you’re doing though, I doubt you’ll need me. And the plan seems solid as hell to me. Yes, I’m quite familiar with your lights and although I’m a ppfd guy, I know DLI too. Not as well as Shed, I should note. DLI is yet another thing I basically learned off him. He will likely know the answers to any DLI question you can ask. But from what I know, it seems solid to me. You’re basically starting low and rising as you go. DLI as I understand it is a strain specific concept and that plan would seem to accommodate all. I can also tell you that I’ve been finding that at 20/4 as I do, I am often wasting light and money. If the plants begin to droop like when they know lights out is impending, (you’ve seen this, yes?) when you have two or three hours left on the schedule, they’re done for the day and you’re wasting light and effectively doing nothing. That happens to me so I have begun adjusting to something closer to 18/6. As is your high end. So yes, I think your plan is great and will cover all your bases.

Also - you noted in here somewhere that since you grow in an in home environment you don’t worry about temp and RH too much. I do this too with my bedroom closet. Just a fan and a light. And what I find is that especially for organics, it works GREAT at house environment. Most homes are roughly in the mid 70s and maybe 60% RH or so. This is awesome for growing organics. Your pot stays warm and the microbes just jam and jam. I personally think we sometimes worry too much about a few degrees or points of humidity. As long as you have plenty of moving air, your system works great. I would suggest you make sure to have some rather significant fan game going on in flower. That’s where a house environment can bite you as you can’t lower the RH. The solution is moving air.

Hope some of that helps. Great start!
