Charly's 4th Grow - G13 Haze Soctober 2011

Hello to all my adoring fans.

How much has my crop changed in one day? Not a hell of a lot. But that doesn't mean I'm going to stop posting more pictures. Think of it as being at your maiden aunt's house and she's showing you pictures from her summer vacation at the beach.

I'm still trying to get the perfect trichome picture. Here's my latest attempt.

Here's your closeup, Mr. deMille

Thanks for dropping by, Miwa!

I think my plants are really starting to reach maturity. The leaves are starting to turn yellow on one of my plants (or it's a nitrogen deficiency - didn't fertilize the beasts for 8 days).

Yellow Leaves

Wow, one day later and the leaf is a goner!

She's 5 1/2 weeks into flowering. Vannelle.

There's almost no more available height in my grow room, so I hope she has topped out. I've been tying the colas down and I hope they'll stay manageable.

I still haven't switched out the MH for the HPS yet. The timer is set to be on mostly at night, so there isn't always a convenient time to switch it. I'm half tempted to just leave it on for the whole flowering cycle. After all, it's the number of hours of light that triggers flowering and I guess CLF guys use the same spectrum throughout the entire grow cycle.

Subbed.
Hey GGrant Nice plant man. Thought I'd check the G13 seen as i'm growing Tangerine Dream at the min, which is G13xNevilles A5 Hazex G13 again.
Vannelle is right though bro, defo switch to HPS for flowering, It need a red spec now. Also CFL growers like myself don't use the same spec cfl through out the grow. I propogate and veg with a 250w 6700k (Blue Spec). And swith over to a 250w 2700k (Red Spec) for flower. It makes so much of difference if you use the right spec for the right stage of growth. Got a journal on my Tangerine and Pineapple chunk running now, check it out if you like mate. V

i use daylight CFL witch would be the CFL 'metal halide' spectrum (of course not spot on but its the blue light) and then for flowering i got warm CFL or just soft white if you go by the label, witch would be the 'high pressure sodium' spectrum, once again not exactly but the yellow/red type spectrum

metal halide is better for keeping your plants short and bushy and hps is better for the flowers, but causes lots of stretch. since your starting to worry about height i would just chill with mh throughout this grow and then do it different next grow, maybe compare results ya kno? :D

love all the trichs man!

Hey Vannelle, Pooh, and JBC,

The Ayes have it! I just switched from MH to HPS. I paid $100 for the HPS, so I might as well use it. I was going on an atricle I saw that had something like the following chart:

-------------------------Good-----------Better---------------------Best

Growing ----------------------------------MH----------------------- MH, HPS

Flowering-----------------MH-------------HPS-----------------------MH, HPS

I was a little surprised to see both bulbs being used was best for vegetation AND flowering.

Anyway, the deed is done!

Thanks for poitning out the different types of CFL's. I was wondering why people were always posting things like "6700K" and "2700K." When I bought my CFL's (for growing), I just asked asked for bulbs that were closest to direct sunlight.

So, no more nice MH pictures, but weird red-eye photos from now on.

Well, as long as I have you all here, here are the last MH pics:

Sorry, it's too late to leave. The exits are all sealed. So, sit down and enjoy the show. You look a little peaked, Dearie. Would you like a nice cup of Chamomile Tea?

Again, thanks for all the help guys!!!

And thanks for stopping by, JBC. Hope to see you again!

Sorry guys, the chart I was trying to show got wrapped around. It sure is hard to post something like a table here. I tried using spaces and they got removed, tabs are definitely out. The table looked fine in preview mode, so I don't know what happened.

Trying again. Hope it works.

--------------------Good -----------Better-----------Best

Growing -----------------------------MH--------------MH, HPS

Flowering-----------MH--------------HPS-------------MH, HPS

So best is using a combination with MH/HPS...is waht i read.
I don know if there is a difference between the radiation of heat between a HPS or a MH bulb....so be carefull....keep an eye on your buds.
And can we see a total closet pic......please.....:thanks:

i love the latest crop pic.:goodjob:

Chart is right on...MH---all white light....HPS----all red light....using both is more like sunlight...you can use both through entire grow...for veg use more white light...for flowering use more red light...a combination of both is best...:thumb:...they also make mixed spectrum bulbs...100.00 ea...just looked at one bulb with 2 elements...a 400 w MH and a 600 w HPS...you can burn in one fixture...

Thanks for the insight, Miwa. I guess it makes sense that the ladies would enjoy the entire spectrum of sunlight! It's a smorgasboard where they take the wavelengths they like - during vegetation, more of the hot rays for leaf formation and the cool rays for flowering. Sort of like a heavy dinner followed by a sweet, smooth, rich-tasting dessert (damn, remind me not to smoke before I write this shit - LOL!).

Vannelle, here is a picture of my grow room. Sorry for the orange-y color. Under duress, several readers of my journal (you know who you are!) made me I swap out my MH and replace it with HPS.

Grow Room

I think my clones are actually doing something. For about two weeks, I felt I was growing bonzai plants, they were so small and never seemed to grow any larger. In the last couple of days, they've starting growing, especially the big one in the first picture. The tiny buds they had seem to have disappeared.

Send In The Clones (redux)

There Ought To Be Clones

SendInTheClonesThree.jpg

The reason I grew the single clone in the last picture is that the plant I took it from was smaller, bushier and flowered earlier than the others. When I planted the first three clones, I didn't really pay any attention which plants they came from. It was an experiment I didn't think would work as the plants were already three weeks into flowering.

It's interesting - they're all of the same genotype, but that doesn't make them identical. I'm pretty sure this plant was the runt of the litter. Do you think the difference is due to variation in the genotype or just because this one barely made it through germination and was a bit stunted. Is it Nature of Nurture. Any ideas? Raise your hand. Yes, you in the back row?

great setup.....thanks alot for te picture.....they seem to like there new Orange enviroment. good stuff....your grow is 2 weeks older then mine mine are now in the 28th day of bloom....just started the green sensation stuff....ill be checking back.

By the way, guys, it's hard to get a sense of perspective of the size of my grow space from the picture, but it's only 4 feet high. (Het is 1,2192 meters lang, Vannelle.)

Hey Miwa, sorry to hear about the dismal fate of your clones. Did you have them in an enclosed environment? Not that I'm an expert, but I think the humidity needs to be near 100% so as to keep the clones from drying out before their roots form. I just used a transparent plastic bag over a pail.

Hey Vannelle, I didn't know you had a current grow. Do you have a journal, too? I haven't seen one.

I believe they have a rule, only legal grows.....i cant produce no legal grow...🇳🇴 in my country its illegal to grow indoors.

took a sample off my lady cause it smelled pertty

Went out shopping today to pick up some provsions for the kiddies!

But first off,

I believe they have a rule, only legal grows.....i cant produce no legal grow...🇳🇴 in my country its illegal to grow indoors.

U moet kidding! Meer dan 90% van de gewassen op deze website zijn onwettig, Vannelle!

I picked up some reflectors. They are a new spece-age cellulose-based, highly reflective panel system from a Swedish company called KhardBourd©. Here are some pictures:

Sorry about that! That was a closeup. Here's are zoomed out picture.

My poor baby clones need a new home, but I was out of potting mix. I have a friend who buys it in bulk and usually gives me a batch for my grows, but he is out of town, so I was left on my own. It seems everybody on this site hates MiracleGrow, so I picked up something else. Here's a picture:

Not MiracleGrow !!!

The label says it contains Peat Moss, Compost, Perlite and Humus. (Isn't Humus a Greek appetizer?)

I also picked up another globe reflector and a couple of splitters:

Finally, without furthur ado, here's another picture of my crop which you have all been clamoring for:
