Carmen's Winter Autos With ViparSpectra XS1500 Pro!

I'm 100% sure that depends on how the lights are configured and their spread patterns. For example, Thirvnrob had his lights end to end and didn't think his plant in the middle was getting enough light. Rotating them each 90º filled in the middle space.

Or Skunksta who had his lights side by side and it was creating a hot spot in the middle, which was eliminated by rotating them 90º.
Good Morning Shed.:ciao:
I see your sig has changed.
What is with the little symbols?
Hope you have a great weekend.
Take care.

He is now the grower formerly known as InTheShed.

I've bought a reptile heating mat and I now have the seeds in paper towel upright in baggies which I have placed on top of a woven cotton placemat placed over the heat mat. I have turned a bucket upside down to create a dark dome over them. Now my biggest concern is that I don't overheat them. There is a control dial but it doesn't have any markings on it. I am checking every few minutes at this stage, to prevent overheating.

Oops I went for a walk and groceries and came back to find the hygrometer reading 35 C / 95 F. The probe is laying against the heat mat. The the paper towel had slumped down and was almost on the mat too. I realize that the sun bakes down on the grounds with the seeds in it for natural germination, so not sure if this is too hot or ok. What do you say? I turned the dial down to the lowest it could go and put another cotton placemat down to make a double layer. Now it reads 31.9 C / 89.42 F.

It's been around 36 hours and Gelato has a tiny tail. Nothing from the others!

I think a gentle heat (maybe better said  warmth) is the key. In nature seeds sprout as things are beginning to warm up in the spring, not in the blazing sun in the summer, so I try to keep my temps below 80*F.

If you still want to use your CD Case tec, the reptile mats can be used rolled up a put on end. Like yours, mine has a dial but no markings so I usually set a cup of water or soil alongside the seeds and use a kitchen thermometer to get the temps in the cup medium and then adjust the dial from there.

I do lights on and lights off and try to set a balance between the two but the upper limit is the more important reading.

Thank you Azi. Those are such good ideas. The probe in there now reads 24.4 C / 75.9 F.

@Carmen Ray you're really getting there, Carmen! 25 C / 77 F should be adequate for germination. 25 C = 77 F. That's almost perfect, my preferred germinating temperature is 79 F (and Jorge C. also says that is the "perfect germinating temperature" :)), and you're very close there.

Hey Bill! From my thread...

LOOKING FOR FEEDBACK:
What do you all think of the new contest graphics under my avatar? They're also on my profile page, and if you click them they take you to the full list of contests I've won.

I think they're pretty snazzy personally, but management wants a more site-wide opinion, so post your thoughts in my thread here rather than Carmen's.

O my goodness Shed! Your avatar is starting to look like one of those Russian generals with all the medals displayed on the coat breast! Lololol. :laughtwo: I can relate, I had that many merit badges as a Boy Scout. Feeds the head. Separates the class of newbies from the class of real experts. A badge of status. Just what we need.

But congratulations, I for one know you certainly deserve recognition for your reliable work here. The proof is in the pudding and you are one of the big resources here. That's what matters, and everybody here knows that. Even without the four stars on your epaulets, sir.

Cheers, Emeraldo

P.S. I won't be surprised if no one "likes" this post!

I have some tails... more about that later... don't wanna jinx them! It seems that the now 24.8 C temp is indeed well suited to germination! I cover half the length with cloth to keep it as dark as possible, and the warmth in while still allowing breathing room. Otherwise it gets too hot.

Congrats @Carmen Ray! Must feel good after all the germination blues you've had. :)
Thank you @Emeraldo It does indeed. That sprouting temp at between 22 to 25 C + healthy seed stock = Life. The Parmesan by Victory Seeds had a nice long radicle when I put it in seedling mix this morning :) Bummer about the Skywalker OG. That was a five pack. I am still holding out hope that the last one of them is showing signs of popping.

Happy birthday!
Thank you Otter!

They're both up today, on perlite SWICKS on top of the heating mat. They are on the lowest heat and are holding about 24 C with the probe in the perlite.

So pleased you got a couple of sprouts. I’ve been watching with my fingers thumbs crossed.

Good luck with your grow Carm :)
Thank you very much Trala. It took a while to get going but we're off to the races now I hope! I think I see the first signs of a radicle on the one Skywalker OG too. Thanks for holding thumbs!
