Carmen And Tassie Compare Notes: Big Angel And Super Mazar Autos

Nah Tassie, just download the app and open it up. The rest is self explanatory. So simple even I who reads only crayon can use it. Look here, I made a diffuser by cutting a strip of paper to fit and stapled it together. It slides on and off.

Oh cool, that actually does look really simple. I'm going to download the app now and see if I can work it out! So what exactly do I do to measure ppfd once it's all setup? Just point my phones camera at the light or? 🤔

That's a good question. You simply hold the phone level, face up at the top of the plant directly under the light and read the numbers. You can swipe to set the app to measure in ppfd / dli / the other thingie that I can't remember right now... lux! That's it, lux! It's a pretty cool app actually.

Wow that's super cool! So my only question now is, if you let the screen face the light, why does the camera need to be covered when it's on the other side 🤔

I dunno, I reckon the cameras are light sensitive and throw the whole thang off. I dunno.

High TT it uses the front facing camera/screen side that you use for selfies the updated android version needs the defuser & you might have to pay a couple bucks for the full spectrum PPFD to get a more accurate reading,

Ohh thanks Con! I can't believe I forgot about the front camera!!! I feel so silly now haha!
That makes lots of sense. I mean, there's a little guide in the app about making a paper diffuser, says it accurate plus/minus 12 with the paper one. I don't need a really accurate one, just a comparison to Carmen's reading and she uses the paper diffuser, so it'd probably be better anyways to use the paper one 😉🤔

i was having reading issues with the updated Photone app and found it to be quite a bit off compared with a dedicated quantum PPFD meter i found another free app which was more accurate than the Photone called PPFD meter - Grow light meter by Home studio inc but have to go into settings & set it up for your 3000k-5000k ranges for full spectrum & no defuser required

Hmmm this seems to get more complicated by the minute.
I did actually see that 2nd app you were talking about when I was downloading photone, im not sure howd I'd go with setting up the k ranges though, seems like something a bit out of my skillset 🤔

you can find all your K ranges on your light specs which you can find on their web site or user manual easy peezy, on the grow PPFS just down load & open then press PPFD/DLI & when thats open click the lower left set up.menu option then click on source scroll through all their setting till you find the the one for your light it probably be the 5000k + 660nm if your light is fairly new i find that one to be most accurate

That actually seems really straightforward Con! Thanks for that, I'll use both the apps today and report back with both readings and see what you guys think. I really appreciate the help 🙏

no problem TT if your light don't have the 660nm just use the LED 5000k setting & your good, i found the Photone app out by 180/200 PPFD & the Grow Light one was with in 30 PPFD, while you're in there you'll need to set your DLI to the amount of hours you run your lights for

Alright, I'm back with my results and surprisingly with both apps the reading is almost identical! 👌
So, with the photone app that Carmen recommended (with paper diffuser) the PPFD is 395.
With the PPFD meter - Grow light meter app that Con recommended (no diffuser required) the PPFD is 385.
Now honestly, today is the first time I've ever looked at PPFD, so I don't really know much about it. I read that between 300-900 is the best light range depending on plant. Mines at 385-395 so that's only just above bare minimum.
Is that suitable or should I raise the girls closer to the light to increase PPFD a bit and if so, what would be a good number?

I officially feel like a weed scientist now! 🤣

Hey Tassie, this may help. The table for Autoflowers. Here is a DLI calculator too, to help you work out your ppfd range DLI Calculator

Week 1 Update:
Screenshot (162).png

Talking about ppfd, last I looked my sprouts are taller than Tassie's and this is likely to be because the ppfd is lower, making them reach for the light. I'm going to turn up the light.

I'm spritzing the soil surface with fish water daily. The Super Mazar auto has caught up to the Big Angel in height and leaf spread. The coloring of the Big Angel is slightly mottled.

That's my bundle. I'm looking forward to seeing Tassie's sprouts :)

Happy Sunday!

Thats great, I think I'll have to get this printed out! Thanks Carmen! 👌
One thing I've just realised with that calculator too, is that because we're almost in week 2 and I'm running my lights at 24/0, I could really get away with 200PPFD, so the 385 I'm getting now, is more than enough 😁
Sorry Man (as previously determined), I am not giving up my name!
Oh shit bro, here I am trying to steal your thunder without even realising!!
My bad

Is there anyway I can copy this little table so it's easier to compare? Bare in mind I only have a phone to work with. Maybe there's an app or something I could use 🤔

Your little ones look amazing gurrrrrl! 🤗
But I do agree, time to crank up the lights 😉

Absolutely amazing first official update Miss Carmen, I'll post within the hour 😀

I've put mine up to 350.

I'm happy to email it to you and you can just enter your own data. Can you get Microsoft Excel on your phone. Have a look in the app gallery.

Thanks!
I downloaded Excel sheets and I've made an almost identical one, just got 2 columns left to fill, the measurement ones and ill upload it.
Thankyou for offering to email yours though, you're such a sweetheart ❤️
