Carcass' $150 Low Budget Grow 2019

Thanks, Azi! This plant's getting bigger than what I'm used to, so I had to open the box up a little to get any decent pics :cheesygrinsmiley:

Impressive!

Where'd the metal at the top of the box come from? Did you fabricate it yourself?
Thanks GDB!
Ha! Looks like metal, but it's just a wooden frame covered with (shiny) aluminum tape...
I did make it, but it was real easy...
seems like there should be music flowing out of the top of that box!
That would be extremely cool!...but.... the only thing that comes out is a lot of stink when I first open it

Aloha my brother! I hope all is well!
:passitleft:

Well, Aloha to you, Sunny- great to see you, and thanks for stopping by my journal!
Things are good with me, how's things over there in paradise?

All is good here my brother. Just hangin in there! Always amazed by your plant training skills! I mistook the red arrows for tie downs :D

Well, yesterday I decided I had to do something to be able to take overhead pics of my indoor plant...
She's getting too big to take pics through the "viewing port" that I installed after mounting the new light.
The top used to open up on the box, but it doesn't since the @NextLight 420h got mounted on top.

So, I made up a couple of hinges..

Now it opens again...

That's it!
I'll be back in here tomorrow with an update or two-
Thanks for looking, I appreciate the support!
That idea hinges on genius Carcass!

Happy Memorial day! Time for an Update on what's growing around here!

First up, the 66 day old GSC- flipped to 12/12 15 days ago, and she's finally starting to flower...
1.jpg

She's only 17.5 inches tall so far, but I think she's still got quite a bit of growing to do- and since she's in a bigger 5 gallon pot, 17.5 inches is about 2 inches taller than the same height in a 3 gallon- she's tall enough that I had to do something a little different to get any good overhead pics...I used to take the pics through that small door, but she's too tall now for that to work....
2.jpg

She's being fed 5.5g/mc/gal, plus 4ml silica, and half a gram of AloeVera powder, and it seems to be keeping her pretty happy..Her canopy is a little "bumpy" now, but still pretty flat for the most part..
There's not as many tops on this one as there was on the last one, but I think these buds might get pretty big....
3.jpg

Finally flowering (it's about time...) She's almost doubled in size since the flip...(9.5 inches to 17.5 inches)
4.jpg

And now on to the outdoor autos- first up, the 50 day old Wookiees -she's 22.5 inches tall, and I think that's as tall as she's going to get...
5b.jpg

She's going to be a frosty one!- this is a triple bud- I've had doubles, but this is the first triple....
Trichomes on the big fan leaves is also a little "different"...
6.jpg

And an odd thing about this one- the 6 leaves on the main stalk have 5 "fingers", but all the other leaves have either 3, 2, or 1 finger...she actually looks like a re-veg, but she's an auto, so that ain't happening...
6b.jpg

Next up, the 16.5"tall DarkDevil auto- (also 50 days old) not much to her yet, but I think she's going to fill in pretty well...
She's also about as tall as she's going to get. Her, and the Wookiees are also getting 5.5g/mc/gal, plus the other stuff, and they both seem to like it.
7.jpg

And she's got that purple thing going on, so she's gonna be a pretty one, eventually...
8.jpg

Lastly, there's the 3 autos planted in the ground- they're not very impressive plants, but they're plenty healthy- they're all being fed apx. 50g of @GeoFlora Nutrients "Bloom" every 12 days or so..and I've got to say, those Geoflora nutes are doing a great job on them.
10.jpg

And there you have it!

Thanks for looking, I really appreciate the support..:green_heart:

The tutorial is coming up in a few minutes, but first, the quotes:

In fact I’d call it the cleverist ugly box I’ve ever seen!
But it's only ugly on the outside...inside, it's usually kinda pretty:)
That idea hinges on genius Carcass!
Ha! I see what you did there! Thanks, Stone!
Lovely flat canopy, filled the box perfectly.
This one might try to over fill the box....
unless she stops growing pretty soon...

Now it's time for training Update #9...
This update is about what to do when the branches are trying to get tall, and they're getting a little too big to tie down...

This mostly concerns the 6 or 8 main branches, but you can also do this to the smaller branches if they're wanting to get taller than the others...
Tall 1.jpg

If you do this to a branch, it'll stop growing for a couple of days, while the stem repairs itself...
You need to squeeze pretty hard when you do this...or..you can just mash the branch with pliers, but I don't do it that way...This is sort of like supercropping, but without the bending....

@Trala isn't going to like this part... :)

And now, a little about trimming/defoliation:

Tall 7.jpg

I like the bottom third of the plant to be pretty "open" - it looks better, it helps with airflow and light penetration, and if you get rid of the larf now, you don't have to deal with it at harvest time....

Tall 8.jpg

You may want to do it a little better than I do- totally up to you...

This is probably the last installment on the canopy training- from here on in, we just let her grow, and do what we can to keep things flat- and (in my case) hope she's about done stretching...:hmmmm:

Although- If there's something I haven't covered well enough, or there's a specific step that you'd like explained better, feel free to let me know, and I'll gladly go over it with you, or do another tutorial update.

Thanks for looking, and I hope I've been of some help to those of you that are interested in this training method.:high-five:

Thanks for looking!
I really appreciate all of you...

Hey fella, the whole auto 3 finger fan trait through me for a full loop in the beginning. That said Im fairly confident somewhere in the auto crossing (possibly some of the early ruderalis) there was a marker for 3 finger fans.

Either the parentage of the photoperiod crosses carried in a recessive gene for pairing, or the auto carried a weak dominant one. The only weird part is some seem to be sort of hybrid like throwing full fingered fans, and tri fingered.

We (grow buddy & I) also got some strange atypical growth points, one of mine split into two mains, and he has had a tri main, and a single with the odd third lateral node.

Got me thinking that perhaps, and this is total speculation, something in hybridisation has switched on traits perhaps hidden in both sides, and only with crossing are they throwing up unusual configurations. Again, makes me wonder without S1 seeding if some of these traits can be captured. Interesting times.

Thanks for that, DV8, but,To be honest, I don't really understand the S1, S2,F1,F2 stuff.
My son created the cross, and he told me this one is an F2, while the runty one is an F1.
From that, I assume F2 is better to have than F1...
And that sums up my knowledge of seed making terms... :hmmmm:

I had a Mephisto Double Grape auto that had all 3 and 1 fingered leaves. If I grew it today, I would chuck it and start a new one. But that one was stunted and fugly…

I still have to really switch my brain on when thinking or conversing genetics.
Yeah, I don't like turning my brain "on" unless I really have to...:cheesygrinsmiley:
Triple buds are good luck Carcass!
Thanks, Stone- I hope you're right!
But that one was stunted and fugly…
You mean as opposed to tall, sparse, and scrawny like mine?
Hopefully she fills in some, because she ain't much to look at right now....:)

When you've killed as many brain cells as I have, you need
to go easy on the ones you've got left..

I feel you, Carcass.

I've done plenty of damage over the years too.

Now that I'm older and wiser, well...nothing's changed! :)

Good evening C Clanger :)

I might like it because I think I might like supercropping after all.

I’m maybe a week away from this step.

Your plant is looking just beautiful. My foliage looks no where near as happy as yours.
