Carcass' $150 Low Budget Grow 2019

Shouldn't whatever product line you're using be able to provide all the nutes your plant needs?
Yes it should, or at least in theory. I think what is different is that most people are used to so called bottled nutes or nutes you mix into water but not dry nutes that you amend in to soil or top dress.. If you look at MC, 95% of their nitrogen is nitrate nitrogen. Nitrate is highly soluble and readily moves with water through the soil. With the GF nutes, only 20% of their Veg formula nitrogen is soluable. So there is a bit of a learning curve in using their products. I think that that the longer people use their product, they should be able to dial in the process.

I like your reasoning (and congratulations on the MOTM nomination!).

Another reason that nute lines don't supply a plant everything it needs is that different companies think your plant needs different things. Some (many) are still selling the idea that plants need high phosphorus and lower nitrogen in flower. Some don't include enough silica (I'm looking at you MC).

So it can be difficult to find a product line that is up-to-date on the science and not hung up on the myths. Especially when selling into the myths is a lot more profitable!

Thanks, BigD.

I like MC because it's so easy although Felonious doesn't like it as much as the liquid nutes he was using as he says he doesn't like that it doesn't dissolve in water very well. He bought a whisk to whisk the nutes in.

However, I'm going to be using GeoFlora nutes for the GSC comparative grow so I'm hoping I find it as easy to use as I do the MegaCrop.

Congrats on your MOTM nomination, @Carcass!

You did an amazing job on the SSH. Congrats on your POTM win as well as your MOTM nom.

Glad to be caught up once again. I've missed hanging with all y'all!

So there is a bit of a learning curve in using their products.
There definitely is- I'm hoping to get it figured out by the end of this grow-
different companies think your plant needs different things.
Or different amounts of the same things....:thedoubletake:

he doesn't like that it doesn't dissolve in water very well.
I put the MC in a little pill bottle with warm water, and dissolve it in there before I pour it into the gallon
It's a lot easier to shake up a little pill bottle than it is to shake up a gallon jug...
Congrats on your MOTM nomination, @Carcass!
Thanks, GDB- that was a nice surprise this morning!
Congrats on your POTM win as well as your MOTM nom.
Thanks, VG! That SSH is definitely the best stuff I've grown so far, it was just a bonus that it was also a pretty plant!
Thanks. That was quite a surprise. I’m truly honored.
Well deserved!
Congrats to you as well BigD!
Yes, Congrats on the MOTM nomination, BigD!

Congratulations on the MOTM nomination Carcass!
Thank You, Shed!

While I'm here, might as well do a little Thursday Mini Update ...
I was seriously considering flipping the Iced Grapefruit yesterday (day 44), but she's not quite ready yet- for no particular reason, I want her to be 6" tall before the flip, and she's only 5.5" tall today...
She's showing a few pre-flowers, so I'm sure she's a she....
IG close to flip.jpg

She's a little lighter green than I like, so next feeding (allegedly in 5 days) she'll get a little extra shot of nitrogen, although I'm not sure yet just how I'm going to do that....
The @Atreum Lighting Hydra-1000 is at 75 watts now, and doing a fantastic job!
IG a little pale 4-15-21.jpg

And then there's the little outdoor Kalashnikov auto, which is also going to get some extra nitrogen with her next feeding (supposed to be the 23rd, might be sooner) she's a little odd- some of the branches are the right shade of green, and other branches are almost yellow..
K.a. greening up a bit...jpg

She's a little thing- 12' tall, 51 days old, flowering for 25- her buds are small and airy, so I'm not expecting much from her. I don't know if the buds are that way because of genetics, or her food is lacking something (besides just nitrogen)

And that's it for todays mini update!
Thank you all for looking, and please stay safe out there!

I wonder if the auto is showing some of the runt mutations in a new way in flower. :hmmmm:
I'm not sure if she's a runt- according to Dope Seeds, she's not supposed to get very big (although they didn't say "tiny")
The fact that she hasn't seen any sun for the last 3 days isn't helping her much either- The sun is finally out today...If the cloudy weather resumes tomorrow, I'm going to set up an "oval of light ;) " inside, with my old cheap light...
Congrats on your MOTM nomination @Carcass. It’s well deserved.
Thank you, BigD, as is yours!

Great idea! Thanks, Carcass and congrats on the MOTM nomination.

@BigD13 - Congrats to you as well for the MOTM nomination.

The Grapefruit is really a looker, Carcass.

It will take diligence to catch her right when she reaches 6 inches, but I know you can do it! :laughtwo:

Great idea! Thanks, Carcass and congrats on the MOTM nomination.
Thanks, HashGirl! That pill bottle trick has saved me a lot of work over the last few years!
It will take diligence to catch her right when she reaches 6 inches,
It'll be easy if she keeps growing as slow as she has been- if she were an auto, she'd already be a foot tall...I do like that photos give you a little more time to do stuff to 'em
You know what's going to happen...Nova is going to show up at his door that day, and next time he checks it's 6½"!
Speak of things like that......guess who I had to go pick up at daycare at 2:30 because she wasn't feeling well? Lil Nova's cousin, 5 year old Lydian- who seems to have miraculously recovered once she got to grandpa's house....
