CaptainLucky's First Indoor Golden Tiger Grow 2023

Tail pipes. Aphids have 2 little extensions off their rear. Mostly root aphids will exist below the surface. They will emerge and fly.

Imo considering where you are in your grow I wouldn’t worry about them. Also if you are around 14 weeks it’s probably about ready. Some tropical sativa will definitely continue to grow regardless of what your do. The purple Honduras haze I just flipped can go upwards of 20 weeks.

I do know of a few products but they’re not sponsors.

Wiki below

“ Rhopalosiphum rufiabdominale, the rice root aphidor red rice root aphid, is a sap-sucking insect pest with a wide host range and a global distribution.[2] As a member of the superfamily Aphidoidea, it is one of 16 species of the genus Rhopalosiphum.[3] Adults and nymphs are soft-bodied and usually dark green with brown, red, or yellow tones.[4] Like all aphids, reproduction is sexual and asexual, depending on the environmental conditions and host plant.[5][6] Rice root aphids cause injury to external plant parts, namely the roots or stem, by feeding on plant sap and vector several important plant viruses”

These are little black specks that jump when I water/feed or if I touch the soil. They maybe fly or it could be the fans. Definitely not fungus gnats. I had those little bastards before and I know what they look 👀 like. CL🍀

Hope you are able to kill them all the little Basterds. Little jumping fleas.

not root aphids. Really the only way to know is to inspect the roots. Just like on the leaves the root aphids will congregate. I’m no expert by any means.
The below listed bacteria and fungus can infect and kill then digest root aphids along with many other insect species
Bacillus subtilis.
Azobacter chroococcum...
Pseudomonas fluorescens
Pseudomonas chlororaphis
Rhodospirillum rubrum ....
Rhodopseudomonas palustris
Beijerinckia indica..
Trichoderma viride......
Trichoderma harzianum.
Bacillus megaterium.
Streptomyces lydicus.
Streptomyces griseus
Rhodospirrilum rubrum

Also
Pyrethrum
Sucrose Octanoate Esters

Sound more like flea beetles

I’m pretty sure they’re springtails, I reused the soil from last year and it was outside on my deck since. Prolly got into the soil over the winter and when I repotted with it they were already in it. CL🍀

:welcome:Journal Update: So what I thought were fungus gnats are root aphids I think 🤔. I don’t know if mosquitoe dunks will work but they are supposed to be here today .Maybe they’re the reason my closet Tiger has been having issues. Idk? I remembered to feed them this morning and they’re not slowing any. Pistils are still white and not showing any signs of change. I’ve been burping and rearranging my Chocolate Thai and Panama buds twice daily. That Chlorophyll smell is diminishing more with every burping and the original fragrance is returning. Think that’s about it for now so happy growing n stay safe. Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend and healthy grows. Support the Sponsors when you can, without their support @420 Magazine couldn’t continue everything they do for the cannabis community. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite choices in this month’s contests. Here’s a pic or 2 from this morning. CL🍀 :morenutes::cheesygrinsmiley:

I use a mix of Diatomaceous Earth and Perlite as a top dressing to deal with pests in the medium.
I mix about 80% Perlite to 20% DE then put about 1"-1.5" layer on top of the medium. It keeps the surface dry so the gnats fuck off, but will also destroy a good majority of any other critters in the soil. 👍
You'll know pretty quick if it's root aphids because that bright white Perlite will have little black spots all over it.... it looks like pepper against the white. Look closer & it's millions of little critters.

If the Perlite gets too gross, vacuum it off & reapply. 👍

Hope that helps...

I had springtails in my mothers after a while and SNS took good care of them. It didn't kill everything, just most of them, and my microbes lived to grow my plants.
Why did you kill off the Springtails? They are beneficial and help break down organic matter in to available nutrients to the plant. Maybe you're thinking of thrips or something else?

I had a couple of bonsai mothers in 4 inch pots Wastei. After a year or more I could see their foliage having a weird look and when I watered they would come to the surface like a blanket of white. There were tons of them! The sns drench didn't kill them all, it just made it so the plant could live better. They did recover from that. They served us well and I gave them up after a couple of years.

They jumped so I thought they were springtails. Could have been thrips.

Bringing outside soil in is not a good idea! And mosquito dunks work for root aphids if that's what they are.

"Bacillus thuringiensis produces a protein that is toxic to immature insects (larvae) called parasporal crystals. Target insects beetles, mosquitoes, root aphids, nematodes, caterpillars, and grub."
Source

Use the Carcass method and see how it goes:
Mosquito dunks in a 5 gallon bucket of plain water. Leave them for 24 hours to fill the water with good bacteria and then use it to water your plants and mix your nutes. Keep adding water to the bucket and the bacteria will multiply and replace the ones you take out, so you won't need more dunks for a couple of weeks.

:welcome:Journal Update:After spending a hour and half untangling/tying and snapping branches. I did the best I could trying to tie them up again but it was almost impossible because of all the heavy colas. I’m going to give it to next weekend unless the Ace representative tells me otherwise. He said a couple of weeks and it been a little more than that. I’m definitely not looking forward to all the trimming. I’m going to cut this one short after fighting Golden Tiger branches for longer than I expected. Hope you’re having a great weekend, happy growing n stay healthy. Here’s some pictures of the Tigers. I see springtails as a sign of a healthy living medium. I always have them in hydro and never bothered to do anything about them since they dont affect growth negatively.

They help cleaning things and won't touch healthy roots. I always have hundreds of them in my runoff water.

Thanks bro I really appreciate that, I worked my azz off trying. Those colas are so heavy it was hard not snapping branches. I would lift one branch thinking it was it and 4 more branches were part of it. Smh CL🍀. :morenutes: :cheesygrinsmiley:

It looks like it would be hard to get them just right.
