CaptainLucky's First Indoor Golden Tiger Grow 2023

You really got it going on in that tent Capt. :thumb:
I’m gonna be a lot happier when half of them are in jars 🫙. With these foxtail buds and them continuing feeding it’s making it hard to know when they’re ready. CL🍀. :morenutes: :cheesygrinsmiley:

Good day, How is it going Cap?

I drool looking at those buds man, you have such a huge harvest coming brother. Have you considered the possibility of a Partial harvest?

Your thai has some outstanding buds at top, maybe if you are to harvest somewhat "early" you could free some air space and better airflow to the lower stuff; could buy you some more time disease free.

And as you harvest tops that are solid, you could cob them as suggested? or just let them finish ripening while they dry in the dark.

Have you tried doing a quick dry on a small bud and sampling? That's what I'd be doing cuz' it looks like at least some of your plants are in the "harvest window". It's pretty normal to see deficiencies late in flower. It's like autumn in the grow room with the leaves changing colors. It looks like the plant is already dropping some of its larger fan leaves, which is another sign, as are the foxtails.

You won't get a good idea of the taste of the properly cured buds with a quick-dry, but you will get a very good idea of the psychoactive effects. ;)

I’ve sampled the CT and closet Tiger and have been smoking them for a while from the larf I cut off. Tastes like 💩 but gets me higher than hell. CL🍀

Ethylene is the phytohormone responsible for fruit/flower ripening. Not a easy task to supplement Ethylene as it would probably be in gas form... but there are ways around catalysing a faster ripening.

Don’t take if from me but a bulk of bananas in your dry room and let them ripe to black, that should expel Ethylene.

Its not bro science, Ethylene is used in commercial applications exactly for fruit ripening.

Here’s a pretty cool picture of a Black Predatory Wasp with what looks like a spider egg it’s carrying. I’ve heard of a Tarantula Wasp that lays its eggs in a living spider so I was wondering if this guy was going to do that or just eat the egg? CL🍀

Oof sorry about the mold and great job getting it cut out before it spread. High RH and poor ventilation will bite you in the 🍑 every time! Not sure it was botrytis but definitely needed to be dealt with. I lost an entire plant to that mold (10.6oz) that only showed up after harvest. If you're in the harvest window I would take it down and wash it 50/50 with 3% H2O2 for what it's worth. After the wash I'd get it down to 62% ASAP and then do three weeks of burping to get rid of the chlorophyll, and be checking them with a loupe every day Justin Case.

Would aging bananas do the trick in a closed environment? That's what Sue recommended:
I did, and saw the difference with my own eyes. I started hanging a bunch about a third of the way into flowering. It’s the mid to late stages that benefit most from the gasses. Buy cheap bananas, unless you want to eat them, like I did.
I ran a few cycles with bananas in the late flowering tent. I started doing so because visually I could see it having an effect. I never quantified it with a comparative grow, but it seemed to me that the plants ripened a bit faster and thicker with the bananas ripening with them. It also kept nutritious snacks on hand to end my gardening chores.
Bananas, and in fact all ripening fruit, emits ethylene gas, which ramps up the ripening of the cannabis in flower. You can also use banana peels to influence the female expression of a seed that appears to be male.

Definitely a well known trick the use of bananas and let them ripen in order to use the Ethylene gas emissions to ripen other fruits in a controlled environment.
Ripping fruit will expel ethylene, I believe banana is the preferred choice as it’s cheaper than the other fruits (apples, plums…).

If I wanted to fast ripen my buds I would buy a box bulk bananas set it at the floor of my drying tent and hang my flowers up. Ethylene being a gas should occupy the volumen of the closed tent. Not sure if the density of ethylene is lighter or heavier than Oxygen/air, wouldn’t be able to precisely know where the bulk of the gas would be in the tent up or down.

I would also put a dehumidifier in that drying tent and a small vent. Because the exposure of spores was inevitable like you said the best is to control humidity inside the bud to ovoid the fungus from taking over while the buds are drying.

The other ways to introduce ethylene would be way costly, like buying the Gas in canister and pumping it in the tent.

I seen a banana whole seller company in Quebec that had ethylene chambers and chambers of greens bananas from every other country that exports to Canada, and they could control the speed in which they ripen tons of bananas to later go to the supermarket.

Just an idea I put there for Captain as I fear the spores he found earlier could cause havoc on the rest of his work.

Another option but not cheap, freeze dry the buds.

I’m going to be using 62% humidity packs in the jars 🫙 this time. CL🍀

Panama Update: I think 🤔 or should say hope I got the fungus problem dealt with and harvested her. I don’t have a scale big enough to have weighed it but it seems to be a good amount. I have it all hanging in my basement closet with a fan on low pointed @ the wall. I’m going to keep scoping to be sure that the fungus doesn’t return. I also did a quick soak with a peroxide n water solution. I also did a quick wet trim. Here’s a picture or two. CL🍀. :thumb: :cheesygrinsmiley:

I bought some new cal-mag with all the micros to help with any deficiencies. So I have something else going on with my Panama, deficiency maybe 🤔? But it’s not on every cola so I don’t know what to think. My closet Tiger is also showing signs of something on a few fans n sugar leaves. My tent Tiger is now nothing but solid buds that I’m always tying up. All of my ladies are continuing to feed so it’s making it hard to know when to chop. It’s day 88 since I flipped my tent Tiger, day 83 for my Chocolate Thai, day 79 for my Panama and day 55 for my closet Tiger 🐅. I’m going to scope them all later n will post pics. Hope everyone is having a week and a healthy grow. Happy growing n stay safe. Here’s a few pictures from this morning. CL🍀
