I can't figure out how to start my own post, so I'm going to reply to this one with my question... Out door plant 5' tall and it's getting cold, going to freeze this week. Is it close to being ready to harvest?

Ill leave her up, mine is turning purple because of the freezing at night Also depending how your plant reacts to the freezing nights you will be getting in the next few weeks. If you see that your plant is stressing and not increasing the buds size 1 week after the freezing, i would haverst because i would guess the root ball is also frozen and wont do much from there but dies, here its wierd lately im getting 25 degrees during the day and 5 degrees at night, and somehow my plant is enjoying it.

She is almost ready tho, let the white hairs turn brown ish and i would haverst. But im a noob, might be wrong as well

Okay, serious stuff now. LOL For my own journal reference later, I gave the first Nutes feeding to the plants this morning. 1/4 strength GH. I will wait and see if the kids like it now.

looking good, you know the clones its best to have the dome as small as you can get away with, so i find the humdity stays up higher if the dome is an inch or 2 bigger than the clones, they wont be doing much growing under the domes so height is not an issue, once they have grown 1cm or 2cm then the domes can come off,

i find that its harder to keep the humidity up with bigger domes,

You are so right on the humidity domes DonP, I think someone else here mentioned that early on and I kind of put it in the back of my head. Now I'm thinking that I will cut those down in half, there has been no real growth height wise on these clones at all. They just seem to stay green and showing a little new growth in the centers.

Hey, DonP! Whilst you are out and about on the threads tonight I want to fly something by you. I'm Wondering if you've ever tried this lil' trick I read about yesterday regarding forcing early sexing of plants:
I read that some people use a sort of black bag method by covering a branch and node with something light tight and leave it on the area for 12 hours and then take it off for 12 hours. 12/12 schedule like flowering. It is said that shortly pistils will show or the male will show its traits. Every tried it?
Sounds like a pain in the ol' rear to do, but wondered if you or someone else had experience with it.

interesting idea, not tried it or even come across that method, i cant see why it wouldnt work.

the only thing i know for sure its that plants wont show sex until their mature enough, so from seed i find under 18-6 they show sex around week 6 to 8 depending on strain from seeds, when i was growing under 24-0 for veg my plants never showed sex until i flipped 12-12 so even 8 week old plants was still not showing any signs of sex, so i was wasting nutrients and space growing plants much longer because i couldnt tell what sex they was.

gas lantern routine i find shows sex much sooner around week 5 onwards but i cant use glr until ive finished working with the autos i got growing, once im not growing autos i only use glr for veg, i find growth the best under glr,

so its a very interesting idea and im pretty sure it would work, it would be a pain to do but im sure some kind of box could be made that clamped around the stem, it might show sex a week or 2 earlier using that method but it will only show sex when its mature, so even going 12-12 from seed the plant wont show sex until about week 6, the only plants i know show sex really early is the autos, some show sex at week 2 but all show sex before none autos do.

Thanks DP, I couldn't think of any reason why it wouldn't work either as long you made sure that area was light tight, and of course that the plants were mature enough to show sex. I look forward to seeing if you find any proof in the pudding on it. Don't spend a lot of time on it, I know you are quite busy too! Just an idea I've been pondering since I read it.

Hi Professor Canna Just got caught up, and it looks like things are moving fast! That would be very interesting if that bagging method would work. I would think the hormones which regulate flowering move inside the plant, but I am just speculating. Keep up the good work

So I go down to cut the humidity domes in half, and decide to check for roots first...and 3 of them have rooted! I cut the domes anyway. LOL
Here's pics of the three clones that have rooted in the rockwool. I'm thinking I'll go ahead and put them in the soil, unless you all think not.

The really nice thing is that cww5 (Clone White Widow 5) is from.....a girl! I verified it a bit ago with my brand spankin' new magnifier loop with led lights.
I also picked up some foam wrapped wire for LST'ing, like someone else did here recently. That stuff is sweet! No more string and tape. YEY!
Now I'm going to find some time to get through journals.
Oops, almost forgot ..for my later reference the clones took about 8 days to root in rockwool with 2 liter pepsi bottle domes, and one daily light misting with water. No heating pad, and off the side of the plants with no specific light on them. There! I'm heading off to

Just wanted to point out something I did with these clones, after a few days I had checked all of them and found no evidence of a root starting anywhere and the bottoms of the stems looked sealed up brown to me. So I used my thumbnail to cut a split in the stem at the very bottom. I'm wondering if the splitting is what finally made them decide to root. I did scrape off a very fine top layer from the stem at the bottom in the beginning, but didn't split the stems until a few days ago.
Next time I clone, I will know for sure if the splitting did the trick. And I'll use proper sharp pruning scissors too. LOL

I like to use scalpels for cloning and with your cool dr. coat it would go hand in hand.
they sell the scalpels at indoor gardening stores just ask for them not all carry them but they are very handy
and make the cuts really clean. but you have roots at 8 days so doing what you did will work again for you.

Hey Rain, You could be right and it makes perfect sense too. Maybe someday I'll experiment with that and see what happens...when I have some of that "Time" thing people are always talking about. Got any for sale?
