Here's the first preliminary picture taken off a curing bud with the USB microscope.
There is one thing that I am going to do for sure, this unit needs a much heavier base than what was sent with it. It is not sturdy enough to get good focused shots. The "snap picture" button is on the side of the actual microscope and that causes shake as well. I will be working on that issue, I have a plan.
We'll see how much more focused and better lighting I can get as I play around with this thing:

Not the greatest quality as far as sharpness on the cheapy unit for sure. So my review is still up in the air. LOL

update on this, I did just discover that I can snap a pic without touching the Microscope by using the software window on the computer. YEY

She knows, coulda cut it a week earlier also...she made what I thought was a pretty good decision based on the what was going on and her schedule and how to best maximize those two considerations along with now having an HPS & a couple LEDs to go start to finish on her clones which were starting to get fairly cumbersome, not to mention some seeds starting to sprout from her breeding she did along the way. Its a long thread that could've been moved to the completed journals actually except given kinda what I just wrote it seemed to need to see the rest through and had the name changed; so its understandable if you just popped in recently and didn't see the earlier questions she had on when to harvest & the thought process behind when she cut. All in all given everything accomplished & jarring what had to be a quarter elbow or so on the very first grow in the dead of winter under only CFLs for most of it...well, I'd be proud if that's how my FIRST indoor grow went!

Question on seedling lighting:
How soon would you put your seedlings under a light after they break soil, what kind of light (watts or lumens or CFL ratings), and on what light schedule?

Hey Canna :) best of buds to you!
On lighting for seedlings, I have always used CFL's the 6500K and I put an inch over my seedlings as soon as up out of soil. The quicker you are the less leggy they are. :)

OH and I go 24 on for the first week, then 18/6 if I'm not vegging for a long time. if I am for ages I veg under 24 on. Then you still get some stretch from the mature plant when flowered!

:thankyou: LightAddict! That's exactly what I did for the new seedlings that just broke soil. The first one got one heck of a stretch going, so I wanted to limit that on the newbies.

I think you are right, I could have. I had a lot of cloudy trichs and some amber on most of the plants, but the one that pic was taken from was the pollinated branch from growing the seeds. It stayed pretty much clear on most of the trichs. I could have let that go longer too, next time I will. I want to be absolutely sure that all of the seeds reach full maturity next time around.

I've scrolled back through several pages and didn't notice - Did you ever get a final total weight on your first set of girls? Congrats on your harvest BTW!

Yah know, I have been so busy with keeping up on the other thread with the seeds...I completely forgot about getting the dry weight on my harvest. :rofl: I am going to try to get that done this weekend after my edibles are done cooking. :-)

I do the same thing Canna...as soon as it cured it just starts disappearing :)...I can usually judge it with out weighing though...the curing jars I use hold one OZ ...if the buds are real dense (like the NL x Skunk I just grew) the jar will be 3/4 full for one OZ...once you get a "feel" for your curing jars you will know pretty close what your harvest weight is

You have been very busy with all your threads...great job...and thank you for taking the time to share with us :thumb:

Thanks Jay! My jars will be changing once I get some proper ones. Right now I had to resort to prego jars cuz I didn't have anything else available. LOL
Going to get some proper canning jars at wally world this week and some cute gold stickers to write the strain etc. on them. ;-)
Pic update on the plants in flower coming this way today too.

Okay, here's a final weight on one of the recent harvests. White Widow 5, which was the thin gangly plant gave me just shy of 1 3/4 oz.
The pic shows the scale reading, but I took off the weight of the plastic bowl to arrive at actual bud weight.

Next weight I will zero out the scale like I should have after putting the empty bowl on. LOL
