Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Too much excitement Canna? I was just thinking yesterday I'll be glad to do a journal without any life and death drama. Just a nice, simple plant, grow and harvest.

Like you said, at the very least seeds to toss outside next spring.

Dang! That is always my nightmare as I have to leave sometimes for days and the boy parts check can be nerve wracking. I never thought there might be ones that small. Time to look even closer.

Do you see this as mostly genetics as you are all discussing or stress too? I just have never had a hermie in all my growing. Genetics makes sense to me as I inadvertently cause stress regularly. For some reason I tend to forget what I am doing in the short term and this seems to cause things like the flower tent left open after lights out regularly and other stressing nonsense. :smokin2:

Congrats on the SLEESTACKS Partner & MASTER KUSH X WHITE WIDOW sounds like a keeper.

Actually it is my understanding that a hermied bean is most likely to carry the hermie trait and is likely to hermie at about the same time in the process.... Info from KingJohnC :adore: so you know I believe it.....:circle-of-love:

I was about to say, my understanding is that if a plant has the hermie trait it means it'll hermie easily with the slightest amount of stress. The reason why they're offspring hermie around the same time as the mother did indoors is because most of us will change a plant's light cycle from 18/6 to 12/12 (STRESS) around the same time we did the mother.

I haven't read this exact theory but came to this conclusion after digesting everything I've read about indoor hermies and hermie traits along with some in my own grows. Has anyone every had an outdoor hermie other than a late plant attempting self-preservation?

HI Dr Bob,

I don't believe it's genetics on this one because it came from home grown seeds through pollination. The Mother plant wasn't a hermie, I chose two branches to pollinate. Since that time I have grown several of them successfully.
I believe this was due to cold draft stress, in a garage grow area. It got very cold where this plant was sitting, with a cold floor under her next to a roll up door and a cold draft coming at her from another angle as well.
She started having issues with leaf discoloration and never really filled out well, just stretched out all kinds of sideways from my LST. LOL

So, I'm going to say this one is a stress issue.

I have another in the grow right now that is doing fantastic, no hermie signs at all.

Hope that answers your question, if not..shoot another one at me. :high-five:

Edit: Just one more stress note, it probably didn't help that the plant went from 50 F and below temps on a regular basis for a couple weeks, then straight into mid seventies during the day and high 60's at night. It might have been too much of a change too quickly with her already being sickly.

HI Dr Bob,

A perfect answer! Very interesting too as we are considering moving into the garage and it would have cold drafts often given our northern latitude.
:thanks:

Yeah, It will be nice to just pick a new area and throw some seeds in there...let them go on their own in the elements and critters with no worries on my end.

I've only grown outdoors once, so I can't say anything on that point.
If I throw some of these seeds outdoors next spring, we will certainly know for sure if they will continue the hermie traits. LOL

Yeah, I think that sleestack is a keeper strain. No clue how it will smoke/vape yet though. Hopefully in a week or so, I'll give it a try.
Thanks!

Temps under 50 degrees will slow the growth of your plants down, I know this from trial and error in a basement grow a couple years ago. Some of them will turn a nice purty purple, but take forever to mature. LOL
Then, of course the chance of the plant going hermie when it waits too long and decides to pollinate herself.....it's their last ditch effort to continue the herd. :)
This hermied plant was subject to cold visibly with the purple stems and the continuous yellowing of the leaves that I couldn't seem to correct.

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

This is the healthy White Widow x Master Kush cross:

11-2_4.jpg

They will always look a little bit gangly or thin due to the genetics of the White Widow, which is a thin stemmed plant.

On the next one, I'm going to try a lot more topping and fimming to see if I can achieve a fuller looking plant. Ya never knows tills ya tries. :)

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

I'm getting a bit anxious about the two seeds I planted in soil on Sunday. Usually I wait for a longer tap root, rather than just a popped open seed....but I went directly to soil after the pop. I always see the sprouts within a day or two at the most.
I don't see anything yet. Wahhhhhhhhh...................
I'm NOT going to go seed digging. LOL

Also, I cut down the two Wildlings that I had pollinated. They were useless really. I don't think there is a seed to be had in those, and there's nothing there to be of any use for oil or cannabutter. Maybe I'll decarb it and see what I can use it for.

Surprisingly there was crap for a root system with both of these. Being planted outside in the ground, I would have expected a hefty root mass, these looked like young plant roots. Maybe 4" long at the most and not spread out much at all.
That's curious to me.

The hermie girl had a high temperature in her area of 75 F degrees, so it will be okay to leave her behind the mylar to finish up.

I'll have some pics of the girls in veg before I go to work today, provided nothing eats my time up. {{time machine}}..."Munch..Munch...Munch"...

Edit: Journal note
This is day 50 from 12/12 flip on the flowering girls.

Harvest beginning of December? Anybody want to guess?

:)

UPDATE CLONES IN VEG 11-4-15

Here's the kids in veg room under HPS:

This one took on a stretch that I didn't get to in time for training. Hopefully I can get her trained down and out this week:

clones_25.jpg

The next two are training okay, kind of sideways at the moment but I'll be training the shoots off to the other sides as they grow out.
I did some more fimming yesterday on some tops:

And the seedlings, first are the two Top Gals clones with their catawonky leaves. Kind of cute. LOL

This kid was a little slow, but is trying to catch up now. I'm pretty sure this clone was taken from the plant that hermied, it's going to be interesting to see what it does. :)

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Now, having expressed my worry on the seeds...Pyramid Purple Auto has decided to sprout in the last couple of hours. She's peeking out without the helmet on.

:partyboy:

Also, I'm seriously considering getting that Hermie girly out of the grow room and upstairs to the old bathroom with a CFL fixture. (it has room for 10 bulbs in the unit)
I think going to CFL is fine for a plant that is just going to seed up, instead of trying to use LED and high power for maximum buds.
Anybody think differently on that?
I'll probably get a big lawn leaf bag and throw it over the plant with some stakes in the sides of the planter to keep it from pressing in on the plant.
I'll have to move 4 plants out of the way to do it.....but I think it needs to be done.
I need that light for flowering girls!

:)

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

The deed is done. The beast has been moved upstairs in front of a window with plenty of light. I'm just going to leave it there:

Beast_WWMK.jpg

The area was washed down and the carpet spritzed with water, and 3 of the girls have been put under the light. Made lots more room for the whole set of plants to spread their branches out.

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

The two Sleestack Skunks combined gave me just shy of 2.5 oz dry weight. They are jarred up now to cure.
Let's see if I can improve the harvest on the next ones indoors without critters and the elements stressing them out. (provided the clones get some feet. LOL)

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Always so nice to see pics outside the tents. So wonderfully cozy looking happy by the window.

Yeah, it does look comfy...although I'm not used to having a tumbleweed staring at me all morning. :laughtwo:
I'll be rotating it once a day to get light evenly all around.

Sounds like your having fun over here. Your work is never done!

Oh yeah....just tons of fun....

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Yep, just what I need...another baby to tend to. LOL

Welcome Lil' Purp to the world! (Pyramid Purple Auto for experimenting with topping)

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

The Buddha from my last harvest was getting ready for transformation to RSO today. I remembered that it had given me one single seed when I harvested, so I checked every bud very carefully with magnifiers and found the nanner. With that were 3 more seeds. :)

I'm going to check again tomorrow when I have a little more time, then she's headed for cookin'

These are just cuz they were there. :)

Hullaballooza! That all looks tasty from baby through that bud. All with the promise of more in the future.
