Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

I'm not missing in action ya'll. Between major vehicle problems, work hours, dental visits, and appliance repairs right now.....I am just swamped azz busy.

Will be around over the weekend, I hope.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Don't know about the rest of you, but I can't wait for the Holidays to be over. Life needs to slow down just a bit here, so much going on at once.
Plants are doing okay. However, the thrip problem on the flowering girls is getting worse. So, I'm going to wrap the base/top soil of all of them with paper towels soaked in neem oil mix. I need to get the cycle broken quickly. I have a few ladybugs left in the fridge, so I'll release those as well.
The heat in the basement flower room seems to be holding steady, certainly not in the 80's or high 70's like I would love...but enough to not slow them down too much. The temps outside are dropping daily, we've had snowfall and some is sticking now. Blech.

Hope you are all doing well.

First snow 4-6" yesterday - mostly melted today.

You've be working so hard I am glad to see you post.

Life slows down a lot after you stop celebrating Christmas (by that I mean stop shopping for presents - going to events is fine.) I haven't been Christmas shopping in about 20 years. The natural rhythm of the season keeps me at home and away from all the noise, panic, and confusion of holiday shoppers.

Cannafan..please enter the xmas tree in the contest..I didn't see it until today..she is beautiful..reps for that..
and also,.. the "tree trimming" is good for Dr.Kripp's thread..you are a grower if... something like " you are a grower if you hear trimming of the Christmas tree and immediately thinks of your last trimming in grow tent"..

G'day Canna :) hope your really well and kicking butt in whatever your doing.. :passitleft:

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

HI all.

AngryBird, :thanks: I'll look into the contest this weekend. It isn't exactly a Charlie Brown Christmas tree....but I think he would have had a good laugh.

Grizz....I'm trying hard to kick winter snow storm butt. I won a battle. My regular snow plow guys' truck got totaled out, so I had to scramble to try to find someone to plow here after the winter storm over the weekend. Shoveling has not been one minute of fun and would be impossible to try to do this long azzed driveway. Finally found someone who actually answered his phone from his ad and he got here 30 minutes before I had to try to leave for work yesterday. It was deep, wet stuff. Stuck city for anything but a 4 wheel drive.
So, that hurdle is out of the way.

I am planning to get some plants potted up and a couple moved to flower this weekend, I really hope the thrips are dying off. If not, I may have to hold off any more flowering plants until I harvest what's down there and completely clean out that room.
Does anyone know if cold will kill those bat rasterds?
A little research is in order I guess.

Hope everyone is well!

Edit: I have some sticky blue traps on the way. The adults can fly.

I also made up some insecticidal spray this morning.

1 Cup vegetable oil
1 TBS Dawn dish detergent.

For a spray, the above is mixed in using 2 teaspoons for every cup of warm water and use right away.

We'll see if that has any impact.

When I got the smaller of my tents and began putting clones in there, I saw a few thrips which surely came indoors from my soil mixed outdoors. I sprayed one time with Shultz insecticidal soap and neem oil. I kept looking but never saw another sign of the little buggers. I hope you get rid of yours.

Gawd, I sure hope so. They are bad down there. I don't want to release the last of the ladybugs because I fear the insecticidal spray will kill them too. I'll do this once a week, and add some neem oil in the spray too.

It's only 9 degrees outside right now, and the basement grow room is holding steady around 65-68. I'm very happy about putting that vent in the wall to draw the warm air into the room.

Winter storm Decima on the way. {{groan}}

Canna I had thrips for about 5 minutes this summer. I made up some capt dead bug spinosad concentrate and sprayed the plants once. They didn't stand a chance and the residual on the plants is gone in a week. I tried to keep it out of the soil because of my predator mites. It whacked my predators too but they came back in a week or so. Great stuff. No thrips since.

Thanks Shiggs! I'll look into mixing some of that up. Everything is worth a try at this point. :thanks:

Edit: One container of Capt. Jack's spinosad concentrate on the way. :)

Yay! Goodbye lil thrips. Nice knowing ya.

You can do soil drenches if wanted and that will help the spino go systemic. I just avoided it because of my predators.

I'm going to get some soil predators for the spring grow round. What variety are you using? :)

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

I hear good things about persimilis for active mite infestations and californicus to be a longer lasting police force. Right now I have a colony of hypoaspis that has been able to stick around feeding off the fungus gnat larvae that always creep up with my heavy soil drenching. I see one or two gnats here and there. When my hypoaspis got honked the fungus gnats came on good for about a week. They helped restablish my mite population and the little hypoaspis mites are back. They act to slow down and control infestation.

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

I hung up some Blue Leafminer sticky traps a couple days ago in all of the grow rooms. There is not a single bug on any of them....and I KNOW there are bugs. Hopefully they'll start moving around and get caught on them soon. I received my Capt. Jacks formula and will be mixing it up today or tomorrow for treatment.

The neem oil mix last week appears to have had a nice effect, the thrips are hard to find now...although the damage is still there.

Here's the vegging kids today:

You can see one or two thrips on the leaves yet. One plant in the back had some major leaf damage on the lower leaves:

I still need to tear apart the T5 light and see what's up with the lights not working.

I'll have some flowering pics in the next couple of days. My concentration has been on other things around here. The to-do list in finally getting to the bottom.

Hey Shiggity Flip! Are you going to have a Christmas and New Year party thread for all to gather 'round?

I think we should.
