CannaDad's First Grow - Vero COB LED

Just wondering if there are any recent pics of this Grow? I purchased a 1600 watt COB LED Light for testing against my
900 watt Mars Hydro II LED. I'd like to see how this Grow turns out as I begin mine.

"I wish you the Greenest of Gardens & Heaviest of Harvest always Brother Grower"
Sincerely: Don.

Update coming in a few hours! I will throw a pic in of the light as well. What brand of 1600 watt led did you get? Welcome in by the way!

I've only had nanners very late so yeah this seems early. I'd say go ask Doc because with that many, if they have or develop pollen then all of your plants will be at risk.

Exactly my thoughts as well... SKD and AML were flipped three days ago. So I’m not worried about them being pollinated quite yet. But I will post on the Q&A to see what people think I should do with it to get the most out of it timing wise, while still playing it safe with SKD and AML. Thanks ween for the quick responses and the great help!

You're welcome! I wish I could be more helpful. When I first got nanners, I was freaking out, thinking I should harvest but the crew stepped in and told me it was not a big deal, to pick them off and finish them up but that was much later in the bloom cycle.

Full update time!!——-

Let’s start with the two in the tent, AML and SKD. Bought these seeds from Barney’s farm and I have high hopes for them (pun intended). They are both doing great right now, AML bounced back great once she was in the 7 gal pot. They both got a good pruning and then switched to 12/12 on Sunday. Today they got 45 ml GE and 3 ml of tea mixed in 5 gals of water today (POK included). Stems are greening up well since last update as well.

Now on to the POK... a seed I planted so I could test things out before I ruined seeds I bought. Got this from some bud I got from a friend. He told me right away that it was prone to being a hermaphrodite. I took her out of the tent for that reason and I let her flower early in the unused veg tent... glad I did.. she is 24 days from flip and showing nanners on at least 50% of the buds. They still seem to be pretty immature and I’m not sure they have pollen in them yet, let alone pollinated any buds.

Now for pictures!

Alright fam, here is where I could really use some help. To play it safe I was thinking of harvesting POK before SKD and AML have buds developing. I would like to get the most out of POK, after all I can press it all into rosin if need be. I guess what I am wondering is what is the earliest into flowering a bud can be pollinated? Should I plan harvest right before that? I don’t care if POK buds are seedy, only that the other two go unpollinated.

My next question is what drenches I should give to POK to finish out her last couple weeks? I’m looking for max resin production for pressing wax. Should I do CAT drenches ASAP? Just ride out GE and transplant?

Maybe I am being way too paranoid about this and there is no way POK could really pollinate the other two in the tent, but that’s not a gamble I feel comfortable with on my first grow.

Thanks for any advice and let me know what YOU would do in this situation!
Ps sorry for sideways pics again... how do I fix that?

I wish this had happened later in bloom, but hey what can ya do. I talked to my friend who I got the bud from and he said he had nanners and that is where this seed most likely came from. I wonder if nanner hermaphroditism is a separate genetic trait from normal hermaphroditism? Always more to learn! Gotta love that!

Hey CD. You can rotate your photos up to 420 minutes after you upload them. Go to your media, find the pics in the album and click on the one you want to edit, on the right are 3 dots and a drop down arrow, click on that and then edit. I think that should work for you.

Your plants look great! :high-five:

I can give you my quick opinion on your light, maybe it will ease your mind a bit. It really isn’t a terrible light, and I’m sure you got a pretty good deal on it. Actual draw is 335 watts across 6 COBS so each one is run around 55 watts at max power. I’m not sure the brand of COBS, but I am sure they are not the most efficient on the market. Overall my guess is it will probably give similar results as your mars light. Hope this helps! And good luck with the light. If you really want to go down the rabbit hole look into timber grow lights and rapid led. They are getting max efficiency with Cree and Bridgelux brand COBS. Happy growing!

A bud can be pollinated as soon as pistils appear, so that won't help you. And this plant isn't throwing a few hermies here and there - it's pumping them right out of the new calyxes - not good. It's basically a goner. As far as how many trichs you can harvest? Dunno. I wouldn't plan on weeks. It's going to go bad fast. I'd be surprised if you get past another week before giving up on it.

So I guess I'd give it a good shot of Growth and start counting the days. You might try Cat drench instead - that would bring out some extra trich production, but dunno what it does for the nanners. If you can watch her closely, then do a Cat drench?

:Namaste:

If it were mine, I'd chop her now - she's a goner and who needs the aggravation?

Ditto. If there were pods/nanners sparsely throughout the plant, I would just castrate where necessary. Seeing as your plant is producing them within the buds, I'd think it would be good measure to cull it. Don't want to sacrifice your other crop.

Thank you for the sound advice graytail! I can see that POK has already pollinated herself on many buds (a few white pistils withering), but SKD and AML only have pre flower pistils. Am I correct in assuming these pre flower pistils can not be pollinated?

I am going to take your advice and plan to cut her down tonight or tomorrow. I don’t want to push it and risk the other two getting pollinated. Thanks again graytail

Thanks dank, you and graytail are right. Not worth any added risk for a plant that was always meant to be a test. Now it will be the test for my drying box as well. Harvest time! Hopefully I can press some good wax out of it if nothing else!

Update—-

It has been a while since the last update again, but POK was harvested a day after last update. It is fully dried and curing in jars currently. The smell is surprisingly good and it doesn’t smoke half bad either. The high lasts minutes instead of hours though. I still plan to grind it all and press some wax from it anyways.

SKD and AML are both looking fantastic, yesterday marked the second full week into flower for them. AML really made a comeback and is almost the same size as SKD. Or same height at least. Unfortunately the way the drenches timed out they are on opposite schedules, which makes watering more of a chore. But honestly I am liking how personalized each and every watering is then. I have been mixing 2 gallons of RO for every watering. With my slow watering method they soak all 2 gallons up. (Anyone find any issues with this paractice?) AML just got GE yesterday and SKD got transplant today. Straight RO next time they dry out. Let me know what you guys think!

Oh yeah, I also planted my next two seeds yesterday morning. Mandarin haze and raspberry cough. (MAN and RSC) hopefully I timed them about right to be ready to go in the flower tent as AML and SKD are harvested.

Picture time!

All advice and criticism welcome! Thanks canna fam!
