Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

My concern with using my fan controller is that I don't how the cooling fan might react. If it's variable speed...no problemo, I think! If it's not, it'll burn out real fast. Hey, maybe replacing the fan is easier than trying to figure out how to re-wire the heating element.

Test time! Will the fan burn out? I'll be back with that answer.

Yup! Forcing the unit to have less will eventually burn up a motor. Looking forward to what you come up with....safely. LOL
You're like me, I was always tearing things apart when I was younger to see what made them tick, and then wanting to make them tick better. Later in life I learned:
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

I have the water still plugged into my fan controller with the top off and unplugged from the base unit. I can use my gun to take the temp of water and mark the controller where 175 deg F occurs. Then I'll see if the fan survives at that setting while testing to be sure the alcohol distilles back.

Seeya!

Putting a rheostat between the power and unit might cause more trouble than it is worth. Slowing the fan might cause overheating or more. Remember, the fan cools the steam in the cooling coil to change it back to liquid. I wonder what it might do if the change from steam back to liquid isn't as fast as the system design requires. At the least, the steam might escape at the end of the tube before returning to a liquid state producing more odor and dangerous fumes. The reclamation amount might/could be lower. In any case, I would be sure to do it outside.

I don't know what might result in using the rheostat. With DC current it is a little easier to predict. With the AC current in the distiller it is a little more involved.

A better idea yet!
The base 'heater' unit I can control with the fan controller.
If I replace the top units dedicated plug (to the base), with a grounded wall type plug and plug it directly into the wall, the fan gets full power and the temp of the base is controlled with the fan controller. Brilliant!!!

I shall return.......jump in here anywhere you like.

Time will tell John. Good luck. I have to buy a new one, I hope you don't.

Oh this is so COOL.

It's working!

Total control!

Plus....the now empty plug on the base unit, with my multi-meter, reads out the voltage to the heating coil so I can adjust the fan control to give me any temp I want! All I have to do is calibrate what voltage gives me what temperature.

A very simple plug swap. It's even grounded. I'm a union journeyman electrician. This is code, folks. Legal.
No doubt it voids the warrantee.

Warning: The plug mod is OK, but the fan controller can't handle the watts of the heater. Don't Use a fan controller.

Okey dokey. There is an awesome thread on how to upload pics and post them when you're ready. Just say the wordies....

And I am comforted now on you messing with electricity, Sir 'JohnnyLectricMan.

Canna, I feel for you girl. I'm dragging just a little more every day. This deprivation period has been a real eye opener for me. I've reached the point where I can't fall asleep until around four in the morning and the energy levels are a struggle. I just took the pup out for a long walk and I think I need to take a nap. I've been trying unsuccessfully for a week now to get myself back to my Callanetics routine. What bothers me most is how difficult it's been to get back into the free flow mindset required for creative writing, so I haven't been able to get the post on how cannabinoids kill cancer cells to gel into something I can be happy with.

In four days I'll be back on my regular doses of brownies and ready to make some oil. I can't wait.

Supergroomer, I'm so thrilled your friend came through. It reminded me of when I ran out of cannabis right after Dale died and a friend stepped in for me and got me through until I harvested. It's a wonderfully abundant universe, and it warms my heart to know you and Mrs. Supergroomer won't have to suffer. :circle-of-love:

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

Congratulations on the modification! Did you install the speed controller in series with the heating element? If it helps, I may have time to take my still base apart and draw out the circuit this week. It might be as simple as a resistor in the factory alcohol model. These counter top models are terrible for making booze, according to the consensus on the distill boards. I have considered making a cannabis brandy, a nice distiller could do both.

Dang, am I ever going to have some creme and lotions to make.

I crushed and decarbed about 4 oz of trim and sugar leaves that were in my freezer today, with more to do tomorrow.

Cannabis control to major crock.....commencing count down .........

I'm going to test out my mini crock pots tomorrow and see what the actual highest temp the coconut oil will reach on the high setting for one of them using the infrared thermometer. I've always been curious on that.
