I will report on how I did the distiller reclaiming process though. ;-)
I gathered all my frozen bud, I think I had about 1 1/2 ounce for the first trial time on this distiller. And my frozen everclear (along with the mistaken frozen Vodka).
I put the glass jar inside my ice bucket to keep things cold and poured some of the Everclear over the top of the bud. I used a small kitchen rolling pin to crush at the start:
I kept the level of Everclear above the crushed bud. Once it was crushed and mixed for about 6 minutes I put it into my Magic Butter straining bag. It has a very fine mesh bottom. Let it drain into a large glass measure pitcher.
I pushed down on the buds to get as much of the liquid out as I could and then put it back in the crushing container and put it in the freezer for a few minutes. Then went through the process again. Two quick washes. On the second one I used a wooden pestel to make sure I got maximum crushing.
Into the strainer bag again and let it drain then squeezed it. I also used a little everclear in the crushing jar to get any leftover out and added that to the bag.
Then I poured it into the distiller using coffee filters and a fine mesh strainer. I went through 3 coffee filters in this process.
This is the sediment I want to keep out of my liquid. The coffee filters did a great job catching that:
I marked the container at the 80% mark by using a bottle of Everclear filled with water, pouring it in and then measuring about where that eighty percent would be. This is so the distiller has enough liquid left in it to not burn the oil, per Wild Jim's instructions.
Now it's ready to "percolate". That's what it sounds like when it starts the process after warming up. It's a very quiet machine. Barely notice it running.
The alcohol is being reclaimed nicely:
When the alcohol reached the mark I unplugged the machine and waited a minute or so, when you take that top off there is steam coming out and I didn't want to get a steam burn. Be careful with that!
This is what was left in the distiller after pouring out the liquid. I used a little Everclear in it, swished it around with a rubber spatula and then poured that into the measure cup with the rest of the liquid.
This is what I got back:
From there it was the normal decarbing process, I used the oven method.
Will have pics of that soon. I'm all pic'd out at the moment.
My oil turned out thicker than I like it to be because I was waiting so long for that extra water from the vodka to cook off, I left a bit too long. But, I will certainly not make that mistake again.
I got 3 syringes of oil, 6ML each syringe.
So, my end review is....I'm keeping it. LOL Had it not been for my vodka error this would have gone very smoothly and it saved me about $20.00. That's almost one full bottle of Everclear I won't have to buy for the next run.
I paid just shy of $150.00 for a supposed scratch n dent item that is in new condition. Got my shipping fees back due to a seller error causing late shipping. It is very well made, runs extremely quiet and turns itself off during the distilling water process. I'm a happy camper.
This will pay for itself in less than ten uses, on oil...but even more with not having to buy distilled water. After I saw the comparison of my tap water to that, I'm not drinking that tap water!
