Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

RSOiler,
Thanks for that. It didn't occur to me they would have been selling her tincture.

On the summit, the links to that were removed by mods a while back. They may have been removed again, or will be. If you had registered before the links were removed, you will see the info in your email on how to get into it.

Thanks OlderGrower, it actually started hours back from this end. :)

I'll let RSOiler report on how it was. I wasn't able to listen to the whole thing due to the data taken up by streaming video on my limited internet gigabytes on the phone hotspot. :-(

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

Excuse me for barging in without reading the 60+ pages. Could someone tell me what the ratio of cannabis to oil is?
My aunt has crohns disease, currently paying $80 an oz. Seems rather cheap, no? how could one possibly make CCO cheaper than that? is it inferior product possibly?

The main reason for growing cannabis and making one's own oil is simple. You know how it was grown and whether or not it has any adulterants. Pesticides or other bad things. Chemicals for mold and pests can be quite dangerous. I read somewhere that 15 different offerings at retail stores and dispensaries in Colorado were recently recalled due to the chemicals for pests and mold that were found testing the buds and edibles. I hope that helps your decision.

First 4 speakers were good, I learn a little but, I've learned a lot more on this site. What I remember the most is "Less is more"

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

I will report on how I did the distiller reclaiming process though. ;-)

I gathered all my frozen bud, I think I had about 1 1/2 ounce for the first trial time on this distiller. And my frozen everclear (along with the mistaken frozen Vodka).
I put the glass jar inside my ice bucket to keep things cold and poured some of the Everclear over the top of the bud. I used a small kitchen rolling pin to crush at the start:

16650.jpg

I kept the level of Everclear above the crushed bud. Once it was crushed and mixed for about 6 minutes I put it into my Magic Butter straining bag. It has a very fine mesh bottom. Let it drain into a large glass measure pitcher.

31860.jpg

I pushed down on the buds to get as much of the liquid out as I could and then put it back in the crushing container and put it in the freezer for a few minutes. Then went through the process again. Two quick washes. On the second one I used a wooden pestel to make sure I got maximum crushing.
41443.jpg

Into the strainer bag again and let it drain then squeezed it. I also used a little everclear in the crushing jar to get any leftover out and added that to the bag.

Then I poured it into the distiller using coffee filters and a fine mesh strainer. I went through 3 coffee filters in this process.

This is the sediment I want to keep out of my liquid. The coffee filters did a great job catching that:

111202.jpg

I marked the container at the 80% mark by using a bottle of Everclear filled with water, pouring it in and then measuring about where that eighty percent would be. This is so the distiller has enough liquid left in it to not burn the oil, per Wild Jim's instructions.

121065.jpg

Now it's ready to "percolate". That's what it sounds like when it starts the process after warming up. It's a very quiet machine. Barely notice it running.

10607.jpg

The alcohol is being reclaimed nicely:

131036.jpg

When the alcohol reached the mark I unplugged the machine and waited a minute or so, when you take that top off there is steam coming out and I didn't want to get a steam burn. Be careful with that!

This is what was left in the distiller after pouring out the liquid. I used a little Everclear in it, swished it around with a rubber spatula and then poured that into the measure cup with the rest of the liquid.

7856.jpg

This is what I got back:

141021.jpg

From there it was the normal decarbing process, I used the oven method.

Will have pics of that soon. I'm all pic'd out at the moment.
My oil turned out thicker than I like it to be because I was waiting so long for that extra water from the vodka to cook off, I left a bit too long. But, I will certainly not make that mistake again.

I got 2 syringes of oil, 6ML each syringe.

So, my end review is....I'm keeping it. LOL Had it not been for my vodka error this would have gone very smoothly and it saved me about $20.00. That's almost one full bottle of Everclear I won't have to buy for the next run.

I paid just shy of $150.00 for a supposed scratch n dent item that is in new condition. Got my shipping fees back due to a seller error causing late shipping. It is very well made, runs extremely quiet and turns itself off during the distilling water process. And zero fumes! I'm a happy camper.

This will pay for itself in less than ten uses, on oil...but even more with not having to buy distilled water. After I saw the comparison of my tap water to that, I'm not drinking that tap water!

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

Welcome Yeatster, The oil your aunt bought is probably a weak tincture, was she told to take a couple of drops under her tongue? That's a tincture. CCO is a highly concentrated Oil, if you take a 1/4 grain of rice (CCO is very thick) and eat it you will get totally wasted, which most people trying to heal their ailment don't want.

You should read the first couple of pages on the CCO journals (Links in my signature) this will help you to get to know what CCO is, not that crap they sell for profit. Let's say you have every tool it takes to make the CCO but you still need to buy the flower & carrier. In a legal state like mine, 1 Ounce of the proper flower would cost you Approx. $280 to $350. The Carrier (Everclear) Approx. $90. Approx. $405 per Ounce to make. If you found high THC flower you could make about 4 grams of CCO that's $101.25 per gram of the real CCO that you made yourself.

Read and ask questions, other "Oilseeds" will show up and chime in.:cco::Love:

Thank you RSOiler, very useful info here and much appreciated. I am going to send her this info provided by the lot of you, I am sure you will see her here in the near future.
And I will definitely check out the link provided.
To all of you, ty ty ty
Peace.

And this is what was left in the distiller after running my tap water through it. No wonder I've never liked to drink water here. EUUUUWWW

Cleaned out easily with vinegar! Another good point on it.

Did you make the oil in yours yet, Johnnyyou'rebeingawfullyquietaboutyours?

And WildJim, what's your average pull of oil when you do it? I assume you use the same kind of syringes Tim suggested, if so, how many do you get filled each time you make the oil?

In addition to being a bit too thick, mine is a lighter color than normal. Is that something to worry on, or is it a strain specific thing sometimes as you said ealier?

I think she got it! Way to go Lady. Not having all the volatile fumes is good too. You will get a lot more oil laden alcohol from washing the distiller with the everclear after pouring out all that is left from distilling. Just adds a little more everclear to the decarb process, no problems there. Congratulations on your first reclaim. Water is the last liquid from the distiller when you reclaim your alcohol, which is another good reason to stop at 20%. Yours must have been mostly water, which is why the decarb took so long. But it is the end result we are looking for. Remember when you use the reclaimed everclear/vodka mixture it might have a bit of water and not be the same percentage of alcohol as everclear. It will take a bit more to decarb all the water out, like your experience today.

I bet the bottom of your distiller had a mess of gunk after distilling the water. Especially with your well water. I am so glad you are going to drink distilled water after seeing your well and "filtered" water. I like to think that the water is removed from what is in it, not that the gunk is removed from the water. They should give everyone in Flint a distiller. It sure is nice to see that crystal clear water after the distilling process.

Hooray for Cannafan! :cheertwo::circle-of-love::cheertwo:

I usually get about 6 - 7 ml of oil per ounce of bud. I get my syringes from the pharmacist for free. They are 10ml and clear. I will be ordering the ones like yours this week. I like the "ball" looking cover and amber keeps light to a minimum.

As for color, I can't say. Mine has been a different color every time I make oil. But my reclaimed technique was nice greenish dark amber when smudged on printer paper. In the clear syringe it is nearly black. How does it tack and is it potent would be my important factors. I always swallow and try for the euphoria on the first tacking. That will give you an answer for sure.

What strain did you make the oil out of?

Thanks Jim! This was some White Widow x Master Kush. I think I said earlier just white widow. They are both from home grown beans. It's been curing for a few months. I figured because it was a home grown cross and kind of mixed on sativa and indica that it would be a good one for experimenting with the first run on the distiller.
With the lay off starting on Monday, I will be able to test out what the effects are on potency.

Yeah, those little ball covers on the syringes are handy and they fit really securely.

Actually now that it has set a while it got a little darker. When I smeared some there is greenish amberish. If that makes sense. LOL
It's really thick though. This might be a good batch for experimenting with topical mixtures, after reading what Lab Rat wrote on that.
Still going to test a small tack size though, half grain size maybe...

I wrote on the reclaimed everclear bottle that it contained some water from vodka. Just so I don't make that mistake again.

Coffee ought to taste better in the morning, I can afford to use distilled water for it now. LOL

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

Distilling question:
It sounds to me like you could run a pint of (strained) green dragon through it and turn it off when when about half of the booze is reclaimed to make the tincture more potent. That should work.... eh?
