Candy Canna Multi-Strain In Candyland

:ciao: Hello everyone! I hope y’all are having a good day and or evening. Update time
I’m gonna start with the flowering ladies cuz they are behaving nicely :)
First we have the 4x4 , they are on day 48 of 12/12 and roughly day 41 of actual flowering.
I currently have them on the 5.5gr/g MC equivalent potion. I’m thinking maybe the GSC and BK might need a bump in the potion as they roughly have 3-4 weeks left give or take and they are getting pretty light in color especially the BK.

Then we have the 2x4 they are on day 34 of 12/12 and roughly day 25 of actual flowering. They are still on the 5gr/g MC equivalent potion for the time being and rocking along. I didn’t do a great job at keeping an even canopy on the SD but it’ll have to do and I’ll do better next time.

Now we have the babies! BB,SWK day 15 WC,SS,CH+ day 14 KK day 12
I’m pretty bummed with a couple of em at the moment. The BB started off with a bang, first one up, was the first one with 2 nodes then it seemed like she stalled out then she finally starting putting out her 3rd node and you’ll see in the pics what she put out. The WC seems to keep getting lighter and lighter with each node and her first true set almost seems like the tips have something going on with them and she doesn’t get very perky at all and droops a lot earlier in the day than the others and seems to be drinking slower as well.
The SWK has some variegation going on but I can handle what she’s doing cuz it’s a normal variegation. Then there’s the KK whose 2nd node is all kinds of crazy but at least the color of green she should be. :cheesygrinsmiley:
I have used seeds from this company several times and even the GSC, SD, and BK that are flowering are from the same place and I have never ever had an issue like this. :hmmmm:I’m gonna give the WC and BB a couple of weeks to grow outta whatever is going on and if they are still acting crazy I may have to drop 2 seeds and replace them and hope the other 2 aren’t jank. :lot-o-toke:

Thank you for stopping by, for the company, and for all the help along the way! :peace::love::Namaste:

The flowering girls are gorgeous! That frost on the KKF is amazing!! I’m in agreement BK could use a bump in food, I don’t see anything else going on other then a lighter green colour so bump away!

Those babies with the yellowing leaves would probably benefit from a bit of food, and the one with the funky second node will probably be just fine once she grows out of it. The seedling stage is always a bit stressful for me, I’m always glad to see it in the rear view mirror.

Your plants are always so happy and healthy, candy...you are such an amazing grower!
That little BB- to me, that looks like an iron def- I had 2 seedlings do that years ago- something you might try, is to fill a water jug, drop a nail in the water (non- galvanized) for 24 hours before you water the plant with it...if it is an iron def-, that'll fix it, if it's not an iron def-. it won't fix it, but it won't hurt anything either.
Just a thought...

:ciao:Candy! WOW, what a beautiful tent full of flowers! :drool:Simply gorgeous. Your little babies do look like a few are struggling….not sure why but I hope you get it sorted soon.
:thanks: Boo and I’m sure hoping to get the babies sorted soon!

Thank you N, they are actually due tomorrow for a top dressing so hopefully that’ll help!

I’ll definitely be happy to see this round of seedlings in the rear view! I’ve never had this bad of an issue in my babies before! :lot-o-toke:
Your GSC is looking especially superb :yummy:
:thanks: Bubba!

:thanks: for that awesome tip! I’ll definitely give that a shot! They’re due a top dress tomorrow but I could bump that out a day, which wouldn’t hurt anyway since they could dry out just a smidge more.

I have a ton of nails in my garage but none were non-galvanized. I did some reading and GWE recommended Calimagic in their article for suspected iron deficiency. Do you think that would suffice? It has 0.1% iron in it

Or do you think it would be better and quicker delivery to the plant to try and get to the store and pick up some non-galvanized nails and go that route?

Your plants are gorgeous, Candy! Sorry to hear you're having seedling problems. It's one of the trickiest stages in my opinion but I have confidence all the new seedlings will thrive soon.

:thanks:HG! This is a first and hopefully last issue like this!
What type of lights are you using Candy? How high are they from the tops?
They are about 27-28” from the top. I started out way higher and they started getting leggy so I slowly started lowering them until they quite getting leggy. I’ll post the pics of the type of light it is below. Oh and they are at 100% and the DLI reading I got was around 170. I’m not at the house at the moment but will double check when I get back.

I honestly don't know, because I don't know how much iron a rusty nail would put into the water.
It doesn't have to be a nail- anything made of steel will work- bolts, nuts, washers, romex staples, etc.

But, now that I see the pic on the laptop instead of the phone, I'm not sure about the iron thing- if it's an iron def, the new growth should be white- yours being light yellow may mean something else...but I'm not sure what...

Ok so the lights are 27” above the canopy and using the Photone app the Par is 173 the DLI is 7.6 and the LUX is 9500 and I took some more up close pics

My feeling is they are getting hit with too much light right now. I think the leaves are bleaching. Seedlings are very sensitive at this stage to light, and you are outside the recommended lux levels for that stage.

If it is a nutrient problem then I'm afraid I won't be of much help since my level of experience involves synthetic nutes, but regardless of the problem you should dial the lights back. The height is fine, you could even go lower, but you need to keep the lux in check if doing so.
I don't use the apps, so I can't say what the true value is, but it's all you got to go by for now.

Here's a link to convert your lux to PPFD if you find you need it.

:thanks:I dialed the light down to 6800 LUX and they’ll get their 1st top dress tomorrow. Fingers crossed the rest of this ride goes better!

Set your light height lower at the very beginning will help. Adjust it so its around 18"-24" above but not getting more than 5K of lux. You'll have to adjust the intensity accordingly for the height. This should help with the legginess.
Another method is to start them under a seedling lamp, such as a led strip. This allows you to keep the light just above the tops to keep them from stretching. Once they have their second set of leaves you can introduce them to the stronger light at the correct lux levels.

Thank you for the tips! I usually don’t have this issue with them but these are new and different lights then the blurples I used to use. I assumed just switching from blurple to white light there wouldn’t be much of a difference but we all know what assume means. With the blurples I had they were usually squatty and I did want a little bit of height but not quite what I got  These ones do have a dial on them so I can go from 0-100% which is nice. I’ll definitely pay more attention to the LUX as well. Thank you again for everything:hugs:

:ciao: @Virgin Ground turned me on to some seedling lights last year and they are awesome. I think they were $20 on Amazon. They are just thin panels and have zero heat coming from them. I’ve used them for all of my seedlings and have been extremely happy with the results - and the price is great! Lemme know if you are interested in checking them out and I’ll DM you the info.
