I didn't know if mega crop offered a coco version like advanced nuts does for growing in coco pH Perfect® Coco Base Nutrients, I like the idea of AN products but not the price.

I've never grown in coco other than doing my clones in coco pellets and i didn't change anything up for that. i want to grow in coco this november instead of dirt and i've been told you have to up the cal/mag in coco but i find alot of people who do and alot of people that don't. Coco seems the way to go for cloning because fancy potting soil causes more problems than it helps sometimes with the clones.
Ahh, nope there is no special version for coco. Coco is fed daily so there is never a shortage of available nutrients and megacrop has quite a bit of calcium to begin with. Between that and the fact my water has some naturally occurring mineral content I've never had any so called "calmag" issues. Can't speak to what others add or if they actually need to be using it....
Point of interest, I've also been growing hot peppers in coco/megacrop since the spring. They are also fairly high in calcium demand like cannabis. I've noticed a tendency to show very slight calcium deficiency symptoms (wrinkly new growth seems to be the first sign in peppers) if I don't water/feed them often enough. I'm not as meticulous with the peppers and watering daily, and when they get too dry calcium uptake pretty much stops I'd reckon. Couple or few days of watering to runoff fixes them right up no worries though.
I used the AN coco specific nutes for a couple of cycles, I find megacrop much more user friendly and get excellent results with it. Not to mention I got a lifetime supply of megacrop for the price of one cycle on AN sooo its been a no brainer for me. Hope this helps.

Whats a good pot size to have best control of the watering with out over doing it? I have fabric 5gal they should be good right?
3 or 5. You can grow a pretty big plant in 5's but I'd still water them daily, and of course it takes more to get runoff. My current crop in the pic is only in 3 gallon fabrics.

Hows the weather everyone?
Super balmy here, a bit damp though, nice breeze aswell.
Pulled out all the gals from the shed once the rain stopped this eve, theyl finally get to enjoy a nice night outside, followed by a very sunny and warm day tomorrow which im sure they will very much enjoy.
Followed by more rain ofcourse.
Plants are going to get a spray down before bed tonight.

LOL... Same here some real gems and a few duds at Value Village thrift shops or what my wife and mother like to call.... V.V. Boutique ... I can't wait till you can score some extra hydroponic or lighting items at places like that. ;)

I have more lights than I can use at once and there isn't much I need for hydro either. Hoping I can score another bale of ProMix HP to make sure I don't run out over the winter. Any outdoor grow space I set up next spring will need a few bales too. Should have my own RO system up and running in the next couple weeks and plan to pipe a line into the grow room so can keep 150L of water aerated, heated and ready to go at all times. Couldn't find any of that RO shit cheap but it'll pay for itself in 5 months and the feed water is free. The dugout in my yard holds 16,000 cubic meters.

There's my supper swimming around up the other end and I left the shotgun in the house dammit! :D

Dugout02.JPG

5 Days later the dugout looks a lot different and my supper has flown south for the winter. I still have to get out there in my belly boat and hook a diffuser up to the aerator line and put a screen on the water intake. Should be fun.

Hey Sun - The greenhouse is attached to my shop, leanto style so the heat from the shop helps - it gets down to about 12 C at nite.
Poor baby. ;)

We're getting -6 during the day and -12 and lower at night.

Trimming my ass off tonight to try to finish it up but I doubt I'll make it.

Hey folks... Coco Coir or Pro Mix .... I can't decied on which to use for my next grow, I have been growing in DWC and basic soil and love it, but now I want to up my growing skills in other grow mediums. Coco coir seems to be the more enviro friendly medium over peat moss which is great stuff but kills our eco system when we extract it from the wet lands in comes from, don't want to aid to that destruction so may try coco over using peat moss just for that reason alone. When it comes to promix which is the best to use for cannabis I have been eyeing that product up for awhile too? What do you guys think about those products? :)

I love my ProMix HP. I use it straight out of the bale and feed with hydro nutes. Mostly AN 3-part with Big Bud for flowering booster. No need for all that other expensive stuff. Any old CalMag will do and Epsom salts are cheap. RO water to cut back on problems with shitty tap water.

You'll be watering more often with fabric bags. I use 4gal plastic pots and usually go 4 days between waterings. Pretty much 1L per gal of mix. I never water enough to get runoff but just to saturation.

Agreed, 5gal pots would be the absolute max for me, approx 6L a day per plant, golly!! I would have to set up a res for auto watering. I don’t even got the time for that lol.

Agreed also. @DutchinAB and @OldMedUser I've been using Rubbermaid style 50 litre bins for a couple years. Bunch drain holes bored in the bottom, they have handles if needed, and don't flip easily. Two years ago I set up a watering timer - friggin great. Can get away for a couple days or even a week and no worries about the plants getting dry.

Fertilizer is a whole different story. I've been using highly concentrated chemical NPK during vegetative growth since I was a kid in the 70s. Only fertilize once every 7-10 days, then back way off completely once flowering starts and don't resume until some lower leaves yellow a bit, then switch to a weak-tea with high phosphorus and low nitrogen.

I've often wondered if I should get current and start using products like General Hydroponics, but last years crop produced 29 or 30 litre Mason jars of nice smoking bud. A lot I extracted into kief. I'm all for fine tuning techniques to get higher quality, but fertilizing daily would be labour intensive and I'm not convinced it's necessary, yet lol

You might benefit from a better nutrient and not feeding at the start of flowering is not so good. The plants eat like crazy thru the stretch and that's when they need lots of everything.

You can still feed a concentrated mix if that's your thing but going overboard is another not so good thing. I'm only feeding every week or so but will have a watering in between feeds. I'm considering getting into a drain to waste thing with automatic waterings to save some work.

I prefer the AN 3-part myself. Doesn't cost any more than the GH and comes with a few supplements built in and the pH Perfect technology makes life a lot easier by never worrying about pH. Plus I'm not supporting companies like Monsanto/Bayer. GH always denied pot growers where AN started up saying they made nutes specifically for pot and were shunned by the industry. Made in Canada at the beginning and then in the US too. The big money comes in if you buy the BS about needing all the supplements. I just buy the Big Bud and have since it was invented and I like the Rhino Skin for silica. Any old CalMag will do, using Remo atm, and Epsom Salts are cheap and easy to get. Great for soaking in a hot bath with a good book too. :)

I make a lot of keif too but what to do with it. I think I'll make it all into RSO for the wife. Mixed with some honey oil it makes a nice gummy hash like the old Temple ball hash we used to get back in the late 70s. Kicks ass and great for hot knifin'.

It has been humid and raining all week. Yesterday was a sprinkle vs a downpour for a change. I might stall one more day. At least I see a little amber and not too much trama...for now

Good luck @bcarpenter24!

Promix HP with mycorrhizae is the most common option from promix for cannabis plants. I see they also have a mix of the two, coco and promix HP, that would be interesting to try. Coco on its own drys out very quickly, one must remember to water it EVERY day, sometimes more depending on pot size, ambient rh and temps.
I for one do not have the time that coco demands!!
i think this will be the route i head, promix coco mixed with promix mycorrhizae, i'll buy seperate and mix. both are easy to find and not overly priced. I've had geat results with clones in promix mycorrhizae.
I'm worried about the coco drying out to fast and good old dirt you at least have bigger watering window incase shite happens. If i had some kind of drip system i'd have less worries using just coco, maybe that will be future project for winter.

i do not see hempy mentioned in your post,, perlite only,,

just curious if you are completely uninterested in hempy or not

i use it exclusively and quite love it,, tho i have only ever otherwise grown in soil.

i always was under the impression that dwc was kinda the ultimate,, but that was only my perception

if i still had plants in the ground outdoors,,

they would be getting very snowed on right now,, :thedoubletake:

Whoa Boyeeee!!! I waited as long as I could but last nite I ground up enough to fill my vape pen - even at it's early stage - Oh My!!!! It was fun!!! :thumb: I can hardly wait to give L'il Cookie and Stevie Nicks a puff!!!

Hi Nivek
Dwc is awesome and I love growing in that style and I do very well with it, Its just I want to better my skills in other area's that I have hardly tried growing in. Hempy could be one of the future adventures for me. I have been a grower in the styles of....Dwc, Ebb N flow, Nft, Kratky bucket Method which is an uncurculating nft growing style, and with mediums and substrates I have tried... Pink Aquarium rocks with rapid rooters, Rockwool alone and with hydroton pellets, Hydroton pellets with rapid rooters or without rooters, Plastic soda bottle caps, cling wrap over a solo cup cut in half with a clear baggy for a dome to grow in ( good clone starter if you add an air pump in the cup, and lmao last but not least of course soil.... In future I would like to try black or white marbles as substrate with Dwc, also I would like to try growing in fabric container in just sand and see how it goes. lol ;)
