Canadian Growers Group & Friends

My original Idea was to use the heating mat under the dwc reservoirs in side a tent inside an unheated but insulated shed size of it 12 x 16 a mini garage lol, The grow tent would be 4x4 with LED lighting, I was thinking because I won't be affected by the weather elements outside directly except the cold,That is the only issue, I thought about an oil heater but too chicken shit to try heating it with that unattended and the shed is not exactly up to code electrical wise yet for electric baseboard, plus that kind of heat in Ontario is expensive. I thought maybe propane but click click BOOM! no thanks. Anyone use those infrared heaters?.... puff puff break k.....

I thought as long as I can just keep the water temp warm enough not to freeze it could possibly work?... At night would the heating mats build enough heat in the tent to keep things warm enough till lights on? Cause I think that is the most critical time period for the plants staying warm during lights off out in that cold environment. I guess you could say I'm trying to build a micro controlled environment (grow tent) inside a small controlled environment (shed) well dealing with less then favorable cold weather outside. All well not breaking the bank to achieve winter herb! lol :) Thanks for any feedback again folks ...peace!

Hey hi,From flat land Sask.

I have my green house heated with a inline recirculating engine block heater & 1/2" black hose. Running through boxes made from insulated garage doors. Works on gravity
Also run a windshield washer pump to pump water through thin black hose in upper part of greenhouse to heat water in 55 gal barrel .

If I rebuilt I would also put Weeping tile hose in my raised bed & diverter to blow hot air from top of greenhouse into the soil

Don't run it in winter but does give me a head start to growing season

Well ive got most of my ladies in hiding, theyre soaked.. and lots more on the way. Will bring them back out in the morning for some sun, hopefully...
Dont mind my absolute disaster of a shed lol
God Bud and chocolata are right soaked, the gelato infront isnt so bad for some reason. All the other ladies are put away
This other Gelato got royal treatment and nailed a porch spot, lucky little bugger

Would love to see this setup, Brewster! Do you have any pics of this to share? We love pics!

Couldn't find any pics of the block heater, but the way it works is the heater pump is sitting in a 5 gal bucket (leak protection ) dug into the ground (has to be lowest point). The heater fills with cold water, heater comes on, boils water & like old coffee percolator pushes water up hose, into water tank & gravity takes over
Is a open loop system, so every few days of hard running have to top up the system
Heat is run on a thermostat

That is awesome, was wondering have you considered close loop system and putting anti freeze in water to run during the winter?

have anti freeze in it closed you would need relief valves & more chance of leaks

To much money to run in winter

If I was younger had acreage would set up a wood stove system boiler and do winter

Good point.... I like the idea of a wood stove boiler system for winter, I guess I would have to install a wood barrel outside the shed and wrap copper pipe around outside then insulate it and that be the furnace of the boiler and then run pipe to the copper around the barrel when it heats have it run out the other end heated down a line to a block heater in the shed. would it work? Would I have to use a close system with anti freeze in winter or as long as i have the pipes insulated going into the shed to radiator or block heater, would I still get good warm heat? lol Just curious would love to find a way to grow year round with out the need of being in the house with a tent. :)

I am planning a similar system for the above ground pool next year. A copper coil in the fire pit and a 120v pump should do the trick I think. I believe it will be more efficient than the hoses on the shed roof for solar heat that I was originally planning. Just have to plan heating days around fire bans!!

Hey everyone, I didnt want to start a new thread on this because theres literally like 4 on every page lol. So Im going to ask it here if you guys dont mind - not getting enough traffic on my journal thread.

Ive been battling mildew on this plant for a bit now, and have made pretty good progress with it. Weve got more rain on the way, it dried out today a bit after 2 days of rain already. More coming tonight, and tomorrow. Im thinking about pulling this one a tad early, I dont know!! Should I risk it for the biscuit, or pull it now? I have 7 others, I just dont want to lose this one to rot.. these pics I just took. Will try to get some better ones once the wife is home to look after the kiddies.
I do see some amber, but id love to wait it out... just nervous. Thoughts?

I'd risk it for the biscuit!... Just cut out the bad parts and maybe try some sodium bicarbonate in a diluted spray. I have heard people fighting mold with that and getting good results. :)

The h202 + water has been working well, I just dont know how effective it would be spraying the buds while its getting wet already off and on, im not really sure. Id like to think it would wash off to a degree, and im just spraying for no reason.
Maybe Im starting to over think it, I dont know haha

basically one teaspoon of baking soda per liter of water mix and shake and spray lol

Only other way I can think is if you made things more breezy around the plant, maybe I'd hate to say it, A lil defoliating to open things up to let more air circulate around the buds. Or even a partial harvest and let rest go, then at least you would have a taste of whats to come and know it will only get better if mold holds off till its completely to your liking.

Its pretty defoliated already, but the god bud next to it could use a second go. I gave it a good one a few weeks back but, didnt last

I was just thinking ... You could harvest it all now cause you said you have cloudy trichomes and some amber, and if you left that bud alone for a little longer then you usually smoke threw it maybe the age will give way to more cbd or cbda can't remember right now lol just smoked a bowl of mk ultra ;) pot brain! haha

Oh ya giving you a more sedative buzz if that's what your craving my friend :)

Yeah were really contemplating taking it down..will probably do it tomorrow evening if were going to. Suppost to get some sunshine tomorrow before the rain comes at night, it will be a last minute decision most likely.
And im the same way, I get baked and start thinking about this way too much haha.

Anyone else get all that hail on Wed.?? - really surprised me - it hung around for awhile. All the gals are under cover except for the bits that hang out a little. I've started to harvest one of the gals - the aphids are winning the war so this will give me a range from cloudy to amber as the other progress.
