I find in Ontario we are good to grow outside around April 23rd, If the weather is warm enough... Or with unheated green house maybe a lil sooner, cause daylight hours are more then 14hrs, Flowering usually starts by around August 20th and keeps blooming until at least Nov 1st. ... Unless the S word comes sooner. lol... If your growing beyond November 1st in this neck of the woods you better be in a semi heated shed or garage and using grow lights to finish... With a heater in the shed during the days...( I wish i could do around the clock heating in there).. I have been able to push it to Nov 8th with yes snow on the ground I know I said it... lol :)

I have lived in Ontario definitely a better growing season than Alberta that might not apply to northern Ontario.
Actually I'm considered in Northern Ontario, By the Great lakes not as way far north as bearskin lake or moosonee, Heck when I lived in Thunderbay people called us southerners when we told them where we were from originally.. lol

I really only spent time in southern Ontario. Lived in Toronto for two years real close to downtown so was a little crazy but fun.
Oh cool , Ya I spent about the same amount of time living in downtown Toronto too, 4 blocks up from younge st. ..I agree crazy is the word in that city, but a wicked fun night life tho! :)

This is gold, @Herby Paisley! I came to the forum seeking this timeline info and now have 2 strains going in Ontario that have followed right along. Fingers crossed that we all get our outdoor plants to finish!
Did we have an exceptional summer? I heard on the radio that Ottawa had the hottest July in 100 years. I have never really paid attention before, but don't want to give myself too much credit if our conditions thus far have been outstanding. :hmmmm:

Lol.. my fingers and toes are crossed... I have to go a lil longer then usual with my Cloudy strain f2 batch of seeds on its way! ... I'm hoping for at least 300 or more viable seeds off her it was a late seed project this year. :)

Hey give yourself some credit you planted them lol, But ya I think our conditions this summer have been more favorable in recent years for growing, just take a look at some of the pot trees on this Canadian thread alone people have achieved well ok and with some great skill too. ;)

Some of us like a more controlled environment where bugs, mold, wind, rain, hail, frost and snow don’t screw with our baby’s

Lol... I know I walk in both worlds when it comes to growing, Indoor Led and Dwc hydro grows, Outdoor solar and soil grows... Can't get enough!... sssh maybe even a gorilla grow or two haha :)

Do any of you outdoor growers with photoperiod plants hit them with light in the middle of the night to induce flowering late June early July? I read years ago about that when all we had were Mexican sativa’s to grow

I ran my air almost every day and knew that was a decent tell that the temps were higher but you make a great point with the pot trees. This is my first glance at a grow season, so even there I've been spoiled with pot tree pics :laughtwo:
Good luck with your seed project!

I tried this year to use flood light to induce earlier but the plants still started at about the same time they do every year so it did not work for me.

Not sure why hitting them with light at night would help with initiating flower, that sounds like the “gas lantern” technique used to keep them from flowering.

If you want to initiate early flowering, you can cover them with blackout fabric for 12hrs a day for 2 weeks. This will initiate flower and if the natural daylight is less than 14.5hrs, most will stay in flower without the 12hr darkness.

Highs and lows in the greenhouse this week;

I guess 57 degrees is when the faceplate starts to melt lol

hit them with light in the middle of the night
This was something I was going to try - so about mid-February I set the timer in the window "light box" at my shop to come on at about 5:30 a.m. - I had woke up and looked out the window to see if the light had come on - Holy Shit - the yard and forest, with the snow covered ground, was lit up like a CSI crime scene - never tied that again!!! I live on a Hwy. and way to many cars on the road!!!
My idea was to add about 2 - 3 hours of artificial light at the beginning of the day for a month or so - then shut it off early June, about 2 - 3 weeks before the light naturally starts to lessen. I wondered if the "change in light" vs the 12/12 thing would trigger flowering.
Any thoughts??
