Bud Washing

I must admit I have not researched these threads much but am about to chop and wonder about a post regarding using a mild h2o2 rather than lemon juice and baking soda. The post stated h2o2/ ro rinses would cleanse better and leave no residue. I used both methods once when dealing with late flower PM, and use only lemon-soda/RO rinses since. No bug or mold issues this chop. Question also posted on Docs' Q&A. Kinda made sense no residue and would bubble debris off from within buds. Has this been hashed out ?!

Not sure man but lemon juice ?

Been doing it for years. Just try it the way we've all been doing it. dont' be scared....just try it.

You'll never go back.

Any idea on ratios. Also is it safe to use to prevent mold on buds in flowering he baking side lemon soda?

This is from Doc Bud's first page of this post. (I personally go with 32oz of h202 in 5 gals and prefer to use longer flatter under the bed containers for the washing so I can wash a 3ft long branch all at once.)

4 buckets total. (5 gallon buckets are perfect)

Bucket 1: 3 parts RO water to 1 part 3% H202.
Bucket 2: 5 gallons of RO with 1 cup baking soda, 1 cup Lemon Juice
Buckets 3 and 4: RO only.

Cut down plants, pull off fan leaves by hand, remove any necrotic leaves. Leave sugar leaves and anything with frosting on the plant.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have been bud washing in LJ+BSoda a few chops now and will never look back. No need to fix if it ain't broken and if a better way was found I know you guys would let us know. I'll save the EXPENSIVE h2o2 for ... actually have a lot I don't seem to use anymore!! Just so I don't confuse myself, the h2o2 is not needed unless dealing with mold issues, meaning just 3 buckets for a healthy chop is what we are doing on a good day. Thanks again:peace:

Thinking I need to know why, it occurs to me that perhaps micro-biology is involved in curing process and maybe secondary reason to burp the jars, to allow fresh air to the microbes. Again , somewhere I read microbes assist curing and h2o2 would sterilize buds of microbes.? Good enough reason for me to stick with Docs' method ( and his strong feelings on this !!! ) As always , yours truely, anal :peace:

You do get a much better clean with the hydrogen peroxide

I am going to stick with the juice and soda. Like Doc said, chefs don't wash their lettuce or spinach in h2o2 and for a healthy grow we are only trying to wash a bit, not oxidize or sterilize. That might be too clean for a healthy grow !! I pre-washed once with h2o2 when PM took hold and gave it away, telling them it was tainted with PM (they insisted). They survived but I never felt good about that and now I scrap entire grow if PM is bad. On a side note, I have not seen PM for 4 cycles/ 3 stains since using DBHBB and atomozing thieves oil in the tents between cycles. That is one of the wifes' cleaning methods and another thread site altogether. (essential oils versus toxic mold) Like I said at Docs Q&A, I get like this before a chop!!! It is clear to me now and for what I am doing, lemon juice/ baking soda is how I roll.:peace:

Gor the most part, water is water. Reverse Osmosis water is just a good quality water. I water my plants with RO,and bud wash in tap water.

Subbed in doc I plan on trying ur high brix kit next year when I get better at this art of growing . thanks for everything seriously .

HiBrix works especially well for beginners. If you can set u an area where you control the light, temp and humidity within a good range, Docs HiBrix nutes and the help of people here will take you a long way. With the price of nutes and reusing the soil,my money goes a long way with Doc's system.

Thanks Rad! I couldn't have said it better myself.

The kit is designed to place elite, world-class cannabis in easy reach of anyone, and on any scale they desire. People regularly get better results on their first or second High Brix grows than growers with decades of experience in home-built soils and methods.

Have read almost noting in the thread...so apologies if mentioned. It would seem the rewetting would rehydrate the buds and retard the drying and chlorophyl conversion? Will go though the posts later. Is this something to improve the smoking experience...taste. smoothness of tokes, etc? Wouldn't seem potency?

You'd think so, yes. Oddly enough, the harvest usually dries faster. :hmmmm:

And a lot of us dry it under some light, so chlorophyll conversion continues as it dries.

I can't explain what happens, but the result is a better smoking experience. There are very few who have tried it and declined to keep doing it. The smoothness of the smoke is obvious. No one has ever said it was less potent, either.

Dunno. :cheesygrinsmiley:
