Bud Washing

DSC_11222.JPG

A dark cupboard works great.

Wow Dutty....very nice! What is the temp in your cupboard? Or does it even matter? How long will it keep in jars? I'm thinking of getting one of those vacuum sealing machines, is that a waste or what? I mean I have about a pound of material that I keep for me only unless I give some away to a few buddies only.

So with the minimum amount that I do smoke long term storage is jmportant.

How do you know when cure is done?

Mylar bags are those used for balloons? So the bags that come with the machines aren't good enough?

Does curing make for a better product or high?

Sorry for all the newby questions, I'm sure the the answers are somewhere in this site.

I harvested my RockLock plant today and put it through the 3 dip wash. This time, I chose to use my 1/2 gallon wide mouth mason jars as wash tubs. By chance I had them back lit and I noticed lots of bubbles stick to the buds. They stick very tightly.

I found I had to agitate the buds quite a bit to shake loose the bubbles.

I posted all my closeups of buds after washing in this thread: Pictures on when to harvest: Trichome colours

I mentioned that I washed the buds in the first set and got a lecture on how organically grown buds don't need washing. :hmmmm:

What's left over in the wash water?

This plant was kept as clean as possible during the grow. After I hung the washed buds, I looked at the water to see what had washed off.

Lots of small fibers float in the water. After letting it settle for 15 minutes, I noticed much of the debris was floating.
More material was in the last rinse than in the first. Go figure. Here's what we are leaving behind in the wash.
First what's floating on top. The big fiber is from my fleece pull-over. Not a pube. :)

There's ONE trichome head, pulled off by the fiber. The rest of the debris are a few of the tiny trichome glands.

And then on the bottom. The perfect spheres are bubbles, not trichome heads.

I don't think washing causes any loss of the glands where the active drugs reside compared to normal handling after drying.

good report.

re: keeping it clean throughout the grow: did you ever foliar feed or do any preventative foliar (sulfur, neem, etc).

It certainly makes sense to us who like to spray our plants with smashed fish guts on the regular.

Just washed what will be approximately 2 lbs dried last night. Only 11 more plants to go!
Hey griz you get the packs? Throw one in a jar with dried smoke and leave for two weeks. I'd open the lid either once a day or at least every other.

Hope your enjoying the washed product soon.

Dutty....

yes I received the packs and i thank you very kindly. I thought I sent you a pm telling you I got them, sorry, my bad.

Are these packs a one time use only or what? I haven't had the time to go to their website yet.
I'm currently using quart size jars, could I use gallon size to the same effect?

Once again, many many thanks for the gift brother, it means the world to me to have someone gift me anything, it's always been the other way around.

Peter. :thanks::thanks::thanks:

I ended up with just over a pound of fairly dried material, needless to say I'm thrilled and of course it was all washed, the water was fucking gross as can be, I'll always wash from now on.

The weed is currently curing so I haven't tried it yet but will sample this week, I'm out of my current stash, bummer, lol.

They can be revived. They are good till you start feeling crystals in the pack instead of gel. As soon as that happens, it's time to revive them. You do that by placing them in an air-tight container, with some water in it, and placing it on your cable modem or a ballast or something that is warm to aid in evaporation of the water. Make sure they are not directly in touch with the water tho.

You can drop 2 to 3 packs in a gallon sized jar to the same effect. they will not interfere with one another, just last longer before needing revival. If they are getting kinda full, let them dry out a little in a room with low RH.

The 62 packets revive fine just soaking in a water glass. I fully immerse all the time.

Do not use orange or lemon peel

Citrus fruit always has lots of mold spores. I use lettuce to re-hydrate cannabis that gets too dry.
My buddies and I have tried may things but fruit usually carries mold. Leafy greens work really well and don't seem to seed spores.

Don't worry, over-dry buds are very fragile, but can be restored.

:Namaste:

I never had trouble with citrus peels, but I never left them in for more then a couple days.
I've tried lettuce too, but didn't like the taste it imparted. Friends swore they didn't taste anything, but I could. My favorite is grapefruit peel. :) Haven't done it for years, but that one smells yummy.

I've used orange peels (long ago) and yes if left too long they can grow mold.
They also change the flavor of the bud (faint but there) which is good if you want it and not if you don't, lol.

I had forgotten about lettuce, it does work.

You could also lay them on a tray on a high shelf in the bathroom when taking a hot shower :)

Lots of ways to re-hydrate buds, just don't overdo it.

I always liked the citrus flavor/odor. I don't care for the taste added by vegetables. :blalol:

Anyone know where I can buy dry ice for making hash?

Ok guys...you all know the trouble I has with dry buds, well last night I put wet paper napkins on the rim of my quart jars then screwed the lids down as best I could.

Today i took off the napkins and my buds were nice and soft!!! Wooooo hoooooo! Lol

So I guess I dodged a big bullet? Now I have a question.

What should I do now? The buds have been cut for 6 days now, should i leave them in the jars with boveda packs and store the jars away in a cool, dark place for awhile? Is there something else I could /should be doing?

My sincere thanks to all of you for your help!

:thanks::thanks::volcano-smiley::Namaste::thumb:

The napkin idea sounds like a good one. As long as you don't get the buds wet directly. Plus, as alluded to above, this method should not have imparted any taste or odor. You used a clean napkin, right? :biglaugh:

So anyway, should I put jars in fridge or keep in basement for now? I don't really have the room in fridge tho. So I kinda have to do the basement thing and burp a couple times a day. :volcano-smiley::thanks:
O

Not sure why you want to put them in the fridge. In the basement in jars is fine. If you have boveda packs, you shouldn't need to burp them.
