Bud Washing

Ok guys, sorry if I came across as bring perhaps overly sensitive, but there's a reason for this. I belong to another growers group as well and after I washed I was amazed at the crud left behind. So I attempted to extol the virtues of bud washing, well this didn't sit well with another member who started arguing with me about it and then another guy chimed in with him as well, so before I knew it these guys were calling me every name in the book, saying I was a fucking idiot, that I lost all the trics, etc, well you get the idea, and then a bunch of other members got the pack bully mentality And all if a sudden I was arguing against a dozen other assholes with the enlightened mind of a burnt out 20 watt bulb.

All this was happening this morning so I come here and find guys giving me shit as well and that was the final straw, so can you guys understand where I was coming from? All I attempted to do was spread the news of a new way of doing things and give praise to Docbud but instead found myself against a herd of dimwitted assholes.

So please accept my apologies. Have a good day.:Namaste:

@ottawadude

Understandable. Perhaps try drying in a tent? A smaller space is not so hard to control humidity. Just recently I read here on 420 about hanging a wet towel with the bottom of it sitting in a bucket of water and fan blowing on towel.

I'm in CO with negligible humidity as well. Not only will we use tents but also veg room which is environmentally controlled. We will throw vegging plants into now empty bloom room at time of harvest, allowing plenty of space in veg room to hang produce (65-70f/60-70rh).

I understand there are a million reasons this won't work for you, and you probably have methods that work just fine.

Haha I know what you mean I mentioned bud washing on another forum and the poor closed minded ignorants went wild with bullshit.
Oh well they can stick with praising out of date techniques and continue being impressed with people with 2k in lights getting .5 grams per watt as if that is impressive...

Re: @ottawadude

Oh and I tried three big towels in buckets and a big fan and it made like 1% humidity increase in my basement. I will just stick with bags as I don't want a tent and my bloom and veg cabinets are busy with, you guessed it, vegging and blooming plants ;-)

Ok, I washed and hung like I said in previous post. I let hang for about 24 hours, I can't believe how dry they were, damn, almost too dry. So I started to trim sugar leaves and had a helluva time trimming, the leaves had all curled around the buds and it was a total bitch to trim. Did anyone else have that problem?

It was bad enough where I'm not sure I'll wash again.

Why do you wait to trim? I find that letting them drip dry for ~ an hour or so is ideal IMHO. I have tried trimming dry and hate it. I'm not using the word lightly here either. I HATE it.

With till the buds are totally dry and the trim is easy.

I respectfully agree to disagree about that one. :Namaste:

The buds were very crispy, they were to the point of crumbling in my fingers when I gently squeezed them, but the stalks were very wet. I had to jar them to get the buds back to some form of softness, I have some in a bag that I haven't trimmed yet, we'll see how those are tomorrow.

Doc, what are the leaves supposed to do? Will they stand up straight when dry for easy trimming or what?

Thanks Doc!

That's why I trim fresh. To me, the buds become more delicate when dry, so I avoid handling them. Isn't that part of why we put them in jars? Not just for air tightedness, but for the physical protection? If it wasn't, we would all use zip locks. :blalol:

Trim fresh and all your complaints will go away.

Hey gryzzly. Yeah same thing here. Just be patient Like doc said.
My usually dry hanging in 14 days approximately. Washing I could jar in 7 so it is faster. I used no fan and kept humidity at 55% and area at 70f

And planet j wasn't being mean just funny. And it was funny. We are all here to help you brother.

Im closer to doc than hiker on this..
I trim most off roughly 75% before wash. So it's just small sugar leaves left to trim.
I HATE trimming as well. I average like 12 lbs a month trimmed.

Maybe try that. Or like hiker said do it fresh when everything is more turgid

Well j think I fucked up, the branches I had in paper bags dried out on me and now buds are super crisp, I tried to trim 5 minutes ago and buds turned to dust, well not really but they are super dry, don't know what to do at this point except to cut all buds into tiny pieces.

The humidity here is ridiculously low right now and everything I've tried hasn't brought it up and I can't afford a humidifier, I'm on permanent disability without qualifying for SSI so things are tight.

So 4 months down the drain? But at least what I trimmed is super covered in trics so it should be smokeable right?

Don't get to down on yourself. All is smokeable.

It happens to everyone of us in some form or another. You will just become a more experienced grower after these initial trials and tribulations

Another thought, my buds that were bagged are super dry and the stems are to the point of snapping almost, could I cut the branches up to fit in jars without trimming and would that maybe get some moisture back in the buds without worrying about mold?

Sorry for all the newby posts, I'm just trying to save my crop, it's critical that I do so.

I've found the 62 boveda packs are best at helping over dried product. More so then curing it. Also there's some diy on here somewhere where a guy took a mason jar lid and made it to where a moist paper towel could be inserted into lid kinda like a cure vault. That might be better since cash is tight.

You could put part of an apple in with the buds should provide some moisture without adding/changing flavor.
Or just take a fine mist spray bottle and give them a spritz or two (not soak) then put in jar and let them re-humidify.
