Bubba Kush DWC on the Fly

Hello everyone, i'll be your host until Heks makes a safe and sound return. For now just making a quick update-she's looking amazing the weather lately has been great too. Dry winds have caused temps to be mild and the drop in humidity is perfect in creating a sap producing-mold deterring environment. At the same time today I picked up an issue of Urban Garden an old one from NOV/DEC 2010 the cover reads "the freedom of nature the nature of freedom" in this I read an excerpt on DWC that excited me; on page 44 paragraph 7 middle of the paragraph it reads "With water as their growing media growers can tailor nutrient solution parameters more specifically. Provoking plant responses such as essential oil production, fruiting and flowering are better manipulated when the substrate can be diailed in. For example, higher exposure of the root zone to atmospheric oxygen can help trigger a plant to increase oil production as a means to conserve water, and can also apply mild root stresses that are often interpreted by the plant as reproductive cues. While higher water levels can cause plants to focus more energy on vegetative production, particularly fan leaves, which in turn speeds transpiration and photosynthetic potential." So since Sandra drinks so much damn h20 im going to let her kick it for a few days without adding more water. I wont let her water level go less than 6 inches before filling it up, but I figure why not, and even though she was changed Thursday I am probably going to have to add water already tomorrow and her water will be almost at the 6 inch mark by tomorrow afternoon im guessing. Anyways thats it for today, hope this info is helpful.

Thats a great article. The above is so true, I've ran and run just about every type of system out there, check out the Seedmadness demo on my sig. DWC is fun and extremely easy once you get it down. Change her water out let her chill & take up the nutrient solution. I personally refill the rez with plain ph'd water in between changes.
How often are you changing the rez? If its a couple weeks, in-between change outs I suggest to top her off w/ plain ph'd water, refill with full strength a second time then again top her off with plain ph'd water or a mild nutrient strength. What your doing is perfect let the water get to 6 inches then refill with a nice nutrient solution, she'll suck those nutes up w/ no problem.Just don't let her get to low. In all honesty I consider DWC a great method of growing.Your a great friend for caring on the grow while she is gone. +rep to you its well deserved.

Haha thanks for the response Butcher after I update this journal I'll definetly subscribe to your journals if you have some spare time by all means subscribe to my current grow journal in my signature! I can tell we have much to learn from each other. My little girl is catching us to this one (Heks created this thread but this plant is a co-op between him and I-his first grow and my first hydro grow. After this girl we'll both be growing but by then he'll have his own lights and stuff) we are are room mates and this girl is already in my closet anyways so its not a big deal to take care of her, we've been switching off changing her water and stuff like that. Yeah DWC is great fun, I actually just upgraded my set up to RDWC with a Chiller im so happy with it
! Right now the way this giant girl drinks I've been letn' the Resi go 4 days or so before changing it, and we've been doing the same thing you suggested every day or every other day just topping her off with water with a TDS of like..24 and the waters PH is almost a perfect 7 so after I add it I'll usualy put a ml or 2 of PH down in to keep her under 6.0 and above 5.5 as ive read is the most beneficial spectrum of the PH scale. Today I actually just changed out her water as I will note in my daily update after this post-the water was down to the 6 inch mark by the afternoon and the water that was left neeeded to go! But I probably wont top her off again till she hits the 6 inch mark then i'll add 6 more inches of H20 let that get down to 6 inches again and then change her and its amazing that happens in about 4 to 5 days depending on humidity and temperature.Thanks again dude for the Reps I've been 420 point hungry lately haha.

Sunday Update:
Today I changed out her water after noticing her levels had reached the 6 inch mark and knowing that last thursday was her change. While changing her I also decided to take the electronic aquarium thermometer out of my other plants system and install it on her since I have a chiller on my other girl that reads the temp out for me already. I had been figuring that this girls temps were going to be high so to beat that today for the second day in the row I incorporated a completley full bottle of water that was rock solid frozen into her resivore, and to my surprise it kept her resi temps under 70 deg/F up until lights out according to the thermometer pretty nifty trick . Other than that this sexy lady looks better every day as more and more of her hairs turn to orange . Hek's jaw's ganna drop when he gets home, it should be time to harvest or very close upon his arrival! Lol we're ganna be soooo

finally found out what she's crossed with from the friend and mentor who gave me the clone himself! its pre 99 bubba kush crossed with Deep chunk
Great Looking Plant. Teach you a lil' trick to get some color when growing the Bubba. When the night temps get low late in flowering, the Kush in her genes has a natural tendency to turn purple. The trick is to get the room nice and cold during mid-night cycle. then allow them to rise go back do if yo do this, purple hues definitely start to come out. Now that using the Bubba, Deep Chunk can be different. However, here is a pict to prove my process:

PHOTO UPDATE TODAY HURRAY! Got a friend to come over and bring his bad ass camera so I didn't have to use my crappy one again. The difference is amazing-after my second grow im definitely going to invest in a NICE digi camera!
Update-now that i've finally learned her true strain composition- pre 99 Bubba Kush CROSSED with Deep Chunk i've been spending time reading about the cross which has recieved different names from young Shepperd as Heks and I call it, OG Chunk and i've read it being called Kush Chunk as well.
Topped off her res today with some RO PH'd h20 today after water levels hit the 6 inch mark-PPM was aprox 700 after bringing her water level back up. After she drinks this down to about the 1 ft. mark I'll do a res change-The way she drinks that will be late afternoon tomorrow. PH is hovering just above 5.7

Yo good lookin out for a fellow grower hookin it up with that advanced knowledge-the way her grow room is set up right now (its a walk in closet with a 400 watt light with a cheapy metallic reflective wing) Doesn't allow for cold nights :-/ temps stay around 75-80 deg/F in their all day, lately when her light kicks off i've been turning the lights off in my room with the drapes closed so my room is completely dark so I am able to leave the walk in closet door open (about 20 mins or so) so that a lot of that heat and humidity can escape but she can rest peacefully in the dark yet even after doing that temps are staying around 65-75 at night. What temps did you get your room down to at night for these results? Living in a warmer climate has its ups and downs with growing as does cold weather. So Until I get an enclosed Hook I can vent air through im stuck.
BUT
When I do get that piece of equipment [hopefully early in the flowering period (april) of my current grow-first link in my sig] I WILL definitely hit you up on more info on that! I would like to at least experiment with the girl 2 see if her Bubba Kushiness genes are strong enough to pull some purple out of her
