BrixNewb's First Grow & Beyond

re: BrixNewb's First Grow & Beyond

Well heck, BN. Those do look a little sorry (except for the DD).
I'd let 'em ride for a while longer. The size doesn't concern me. Those are big pots for little girls. They are looking for the bottom so all the growth may be invisible. Best of luck, either way you decide to go. Keep the faith!

I appreciate the input, as is plain to see, I am still learning, so I appreciate the input everyone has given. I am going to take that advice and let them soldier on and see what we get. At least for another week or so.

I would too. Let them go long enough to see if they'll live. Sometimes a challenged runt really can turn into the swan.

You are right. Woke up this morning to find that the pots are starting to dry out and what do you know, every single plant looks better than yesterday. New growth, looking much better. What a difference a day makes.

Thanks for the encouragement. It came at the right time guys.

It's so easy to drown the little ones. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Well guys, no pictures today as not much has changed. The Dark Devil and the Bubblegum are the only two that I would describe as doing ok at this point. I did hit 4 of the girls with a GE drench today, if things aren't looking better in a week I will go ahead and pull the 4 terrible looking plants.

On a positive note I bought a second tent. This one is only a 36"x20" so it can only really be used for vegging. Going to put two old style Mars Hydro 300 watt lights in it and start a perpetual grow aiming to harvest two plants every month. Thinking photos are where it's at for me at this point until I can get the seedling and veg stages down.

Well guys, I made the tough decision today. I pulled the 4 autos that were looking terrible. Still have two going, but they are quite small for being this old from what I have seen. I think I overwatered them. Going to take it easy on the other two and when the time is right I am going to pop two photo beans. I am just not ready for autos yet. Here are some pics of the sadness. These seeds were planted 12/10 and 12/15. If I were growing dwarf plants this may have been a good run.

Sorry to hear it BN. I'm sort of in the same boat only worse. Eight plants and 38 days into the grow. If mine don't shape up in the next week or two, I'll scrap the entire grow and start new with everything. :(

Yeah, I am following the problems you are having man. Sorry to hear that. I made a few mistakes, didn't amend after the first run or let it cook. That couldn't have helped. I have to get another kit cooking so I can grow back to back. It's a minor setback in the end man. We do this because we love it. Every failure is a learning experience, so I learn. I hope yours turns around for you.

BN, I think that you would have been fine if starting in smaller pots. It is too hard not to drown a seedling in a large pot because of the perched water table. You want to water because the top is dry but the perched water ends up drowning the roots, and any roots up top shrivel while waiting for the perched water to dry out. With an auto I would just use fabric pots and keep upcanning as the roots got bigger. Much easier to do wet dry in a 1 gallon fabric pot. You can just lift the pot up and feel the bottom.

I think I would have done better starting in smaller pots as well. At this time I have decided to put the autos on hold and stick to the photos. I was happy with my results from my first run so I am going to hone the photos and maybe revisit autos later. Plus I have some really nice photo strains to keep me growing for a few years. Already planted 4 seeds last night in one gallon pots.

Well guys, I have two autos left, Dark Devil and Bubblegum. Dark Devil is the only one I didn't overwater like crazy. Two weeks above ground today! Looking ok in my eyes. Fingers crossed.

I do have 4 photos in one gallons right now, once they pop up above ground I will do some introductions.

Welcome buddy! Only one auto in here, but you are welcome to enjoy the show. Glad to have you.

Yep, That DD looks like it will do fine now. Might still be stalled a little, but let'er go.

She is growing right now. Not sure that I really stalled her. Hasn't been watered in quite some time, but lifting the pot tells me that there is some in there. Fingers crossed!

I started with 2 photos ( currently first week in flower) and was so "green" with envy I had to get some autos on the go.
Everything I know about growing (not much at all) is from watching everyone else's success/mishaps so I am more then happy to sit in on your adventure.

An adventure it will be. Sure to have plenty of highs and lows. Only my second grow ever, so you and I are in the same boat. You are organic, I am using Doc Bud's kit. I just follow the directions and try not to forget anything and the plants do the rest. As long as I don't kill them.

Your girls are doing good! They look awesome. And another 4 sprouting now. Exciting times. I am trying to get a perpetual grow going so that I will have my harvests spread out instead of all within two weeks of each other. Two plants every 30 days is what I am shooting for.

Today is an update, but not about plants. The plants are much the same as yesterday. HOWEVER I did get my 36"x20"x62" Apollo grow tent. The really nice thing is that I have a 48"x48"x80" Apollo grow tent and this one is a perfect size so that it nests below the top 6" vent and behind the bottom 6" vent on the big tent. I put the back of the little tent against the left side of my big tent and my intake and exhaust are in the perfect place. Almost like they thought this out or something. The not awesome news is that the tent is a little bit smaller than I envisioned, so my fan and humidifier take up more floor space than I like. I have a solution for the fan, going to swap the tower fan for a smaller clip on style fan. In that small space I figure it would be plenty. Anyone have any ideas for the humidifier, I am all ears.

On to a couple pictures to better convey the nesting.
