British Green's 1st 420 Grow Journal

Good afternoon my brother:)....been a while since i have been here.....damn that chronic is chunky:)....girls look fantastic bro:)......hope all is well with the family bro:)......

i have the same issues with ph in my main resevoirs......crazy how far it will drop overnight.....but mine normally drink enough over night that when i refill with ph correct it keeps them happy:).....when i was using dutch master nutes i didnt have the ph swings like with fox farms......when i am done with the fox farms i am going back to dutch master to finish off what i have of them and see if i like them better.....i do know they are much cleaner.....turns the res a reddish color but no muck what so ever:)...very clean:).....

Using an air stone? When I did DWC mine would go up and down between 4 and 8!!!! Soon as I switched to to feed cap'n style and dropped my airstone it stopped....plus I was no longer using RO water which is supposed to help with PH issues. I went on holiday and left my girls for 5 days. Left with it at 5.5 and came back to a rez with 6.1 ph....love it!

I have heard using other techniques like a waterfall to add air to the Rez works better for controlling PH

I am also curious to hear more about this not using an airstone:)......i dont mind trying it in my main resevoirs....not sure about my individual buckets though:/........my main resevoir has a circulation pump that constantly moves the nutes keeping them mixed good......i use r/o water as well:).....i guess your girls get enough oxygen in the sitting water?.....yep...please elaborate:)

Hidden enlighten me please . Have you done away with your air stone ? and how ? :)by the way I've drawn up that box for you and just need to get into the office to get it . Let you check it then it's away we go :)

Ok well I just got rid of mine, I didn't replace it I just change my water often. I also have a water pump in my rez that feeds the drip ring that comes on a couple times a day so the water doesn't just sit there.

The waterfall is one of the best ways without messing with the PH too much.
Just place a submersible pump in the tank/rez to create a waterfall/flooming effect.

Here is a paragraph taken from another site
"Currently designing a new flower room system growing 6 large bushes or small trees using 17.5 gallon Maxcold Igloo coolers emulating the Undercurrent designs and also Doubled's MPB (Medical Patient Bucket) systems. Undercurrent designs have the pump pulling water from the plant sites and emptying into the reservoir through a 1-1.5” return pipe while the return circulation pipe/feed to plant sites is 2-3” in diameter to allow for plant sites to fill evenly.

In a regular RDWC w/air stones the typical recirculation rate for water is about 5-10x per hour of total gallons in system or every 6-12 minutes. In a URDWC (Undercurrent recirculating deep water culture) or MPB system w/o air stones the recommended recirculation rate is more like 15-30x an hour or every 2-4 minutes.

There are 4 main alternatives of adding DO to water in this system. 1st: MPB designs also try to ditch the air stones using fast water recirculation to add DO (dissolved oxygen) to the water. 2nd: Besides the faster recirculation rate for adding DO: the return pipe for pump splits into a “T” and waterfalls into the top of reservoir. Some make a flooming action (breaking the surface with water pushing up) instead or even make a combo flooming/waterfall fountain. 3rd: Each plant site or bucket can have waterfall and/or flooming action going through the 2-3" circulation pipe. To increase effect of waterfall/flooming action the pipe can be narrowed and/or redirected on intake. 4th: Another pump is run about half the size of the recirculation pump for top feed watering and additional DO in water. I like 1” flex tube for distribution with 1/2” circle emitters (each with 6-1/4" holes) at each plant site each controlled by a ball valve for even distribution."

Not having an airstone has worked for me, although I am however going to be adding either an airstone or a waterfall effect to my new garden as it will be slightly bigger and the risks that come with not adding Air...or at least movement to your rez.

Just read the bottom of your msg...I saw the airstone question and got all excited and started typing haha!
Thank you so much buddy, I'm sure it's perfect so just let me know via PM when you can.

:circle-of-love:

I've ran a system like that in the past but pumping water from a main res into top fed buckets through half inch pipe and pressured drip rings to create mist :) works very well . The way I'm growing and trying too keep a harvest every two weeks or so strain dependant I need the flexibility of different buckets . Alien do a system like you talked about hidden isn't la going or is using it . Thanks for answering my question :)

Yes Hidden....Thank you for the answer:)....if i am understanding correctly though that is for rdwc and urdwc and not for just individual dwc buckets?......i run individuals but fill all with two main res's.....but they arent hooked up....i just have a hose with a shut off valve that i use to fill the individuals.....i think my PH flucuations are fox farms nutes to be honest......:).....thanks for the info brother:)

I don't use airstones. I use a mj1000 pump. Lift water 1 foot too a vortex bucket which has a exit at the bottom straight piped back and drops into my Wilma resevoir as a water fall. I never get droopy leaves associated with over watering/ lack of oxygen. It works for me so....

I'm nowhere near ready to take the leap but you guys' convo has really sparked my interest in DWC.

Sheesh BG! Which girl is that? She's adorable.

At a later date.

Sounds like you two had a better start to the day than me . I can't move or wake up properly without my coffee l had two nice cups of freshly ground and brewed blue mountain coffee from jamaica it's the best :) in my opinion :) I do love my coffee the only way it gets better if it's freshly roasted and I drink it black :) but I'm home and playing catch up with you two now . Well I might never catch up with our pill popping friend but I'm on skunnies heels
