Brightlight's Strain Fest: Organics & LED

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

I think I remember a very quick grapefruit phase on the clone leaning ECSDH. I believe she then changed to a citrus sweet gassy skunk death-laundry smell lol. She's absolutely gorgeous, and different from the phenos I've seen so far. Looking forward to hearing how she smokes, she sure looks promising.

Dosha is just stupid nice looking, so happy I have the Dolato going, so I'll be seeing one side of her soon, I can't wait. :Namaste::)

Never got smitten by the LA Affie, but I'd smoke that, wow. :circle-of-love:

Top plants BL, they are grown so beautifully, I've come back to look at them a few times. :high-five:

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Is it DNA's LA Affie or you got a special cut? But they probably got it from Crockett's Farms anyway, right? :laughtwo:

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Nag Champa is that cheap incense in the blue box that has been all the rage since The Beattles discovered Guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
I like most incense. Can't stand Nag Champa.
I can't imagine disliking the smell of those buds.

Thanks for info Rad....good chance I have smelled it but didn't know what I was smelling.

Thanks Duggan, I will Pm you. Im glad you dont have a thread going cause I cant keep up!
Im just wondering what else I will need to buy for the Led's or will they use he same cords, timer, ballasts?
Brightlight your buds are Beautiful!!! Are feminized seeds ok in the yard and can they be cloned off, used as a mother?
Im starting my second tent grow my Brother!!!!! Happy!!!! Great Day!

4D....duggan is top notch grower & has excellent journals so check him out when you can. Fems are fine outdoors & can be cloned.

Early mixed fruity/floral fragrance even had a bit of gym shoe/sock funk but now only sweet grapefruit. The fans w/ long stems twist & turn to find light...quite different. This plant doesn't drink nearly as much as her tent mates. Took a 1st look at trichomes & while still a ways to go, I sure don't think the listed 70-84 days will be needed. With so many new strains last run I went too long on several.

The LA Affie has had her last feed at 43 days. Listed at 56-60 days, that should be just about right. I've found that the effect of a slightly earlier harvest on full indicas expands the effects....more alert, energy, uplifting effects but still excellent body relaxation & comfort.

Thank you for the kind words. Good to hear too that you've saved the little Do-Lato & have 2 going. That's another one that I definitely let go too long....building weight & boosting color while ruining the effect (at least for me). Mine is so heavy that I seldom reach for it.

Not the DNA version con....this seed is from an older pack of Cali Connection LA Affie. I haven't examined Crockett strains for awhile since not currently buying many regulars so wasn't aware he was working w/ LAA too. Speaking of regular seeds....I found a great line of strains at Annanuki Genetics so dove back in w/ some regulars. He has the elusive, mysterious Black Cherry Soda. Generally very rare in Cali. Great guy w/ great website. He explains every pheno of every strain. He's the "king" of BCS in the PNW & filled me in on how he acquired & developed BCS. Many of his strains are developed for outdoors.

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Thanks BL! Nice to know about the feminized seeds. Some in the yard grow for sure. As far as cloning off, maybe. Maybe I will pull a couple clones off the fire just in case I fall in love with it at harvest. I will have room in the laundry room because they will be flowering in the yard soon! The laundry veg grow has no signs of nute lock out or do the seeds of fire but the clones, they need to be fed. Next watering. Thanks for all your help Brightlight! Duggan was big help too! My tents room is ready to rock and roll with the LED's!!! Oh, the RO system, My main question is..... it process 50 gal a day so is that 1 gal at a time? Does the 50 gal flow continuously or do I have to wait till the tank fills before drained???? The RO system would work good for the tent and drinking water if it flows the 50 gal continuous. I also need to research nute lock out so, Great Day!!!!

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

A RO system fills the water tank until full, then stops. 50 gallons per day explains how fast the tank fills (about 2 gallons per hour, 2 oz per minute.) Tank size (often 1-3 gallons) indicates the maximum amount of water available at one time.

RO water tanks have a pressure 'balloon' inside the tank so that water is forced in under pressure and flows back out from tank pressure. It is like a water tower on a hill, except it uses air pressure instead of gravity. = You don't have to wait for the tank to fill to drain the water. My system drains the 4 gallon tank in about 6 minutes. If I leave the valve open, newly made RO water still flows, but at a trickle of about 2 oz per minute.

4 gallons at a time is not much water when transplanting. About once a day, I drain the RO tank into a bucket and place that bucket inside the grow area. This way I have room temperature RO water available when I need it.

One could use a food safe water barrel and a toilet tank style fill valve, and plumb it so the RO system 'overflows' into the water barrel and have more capacity than the RO tank.4 gallons at a time works for me if I plan ahead. I'm glad I upgraded from a 3 gallon RO tank to a 4 gallon RO tank.

RO systems typically use 2-5 times as much water as they save as RO water. This means an RO system creating 3 gallons of water may be sending 12 gallons of water down the drain per hour. I suggest you connect the drain someplace you can't hear it. I connected my drain line to the kitched drain per instructions. I hear draining water almost every time I go into the kitchen.

P.S. Here's a link to my RO system, with some pictures Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Radogast, I really appreciate that! The tank needs to fit under the sink in the kitchen but that would make it too small? The RO system wastes water bad by sending it down the drain? Im not sure how big the tank was that said 50 gal a day. Do you think a 4-5 gal tank will fit under a standard sink?? Thats a beautiful RO system you have Radogast! Did it yourself too, nice! I need to do it for drinking water. The RO system I looked at cost $200. and I wonder what yours cost? I already figured to fill a bucket here and there and store it for use. Thanks Radogast! Namaste

Hey there BL - Mighty fine looking ladies you have there.. wow your pics are AWESOME ... camera??

Ok I can help with the RO deal. We've been using RO water for like 15 years.. as long as I can remember for health reasons drinking and cooking and for the last 4 years growing cannabis indoors.

There are several systems you can use/purchase. What we've been using is a RO water system made for RVs. It's call RO Buddie... purchase on Amazon.. 100 gal per day or 50 gal per day they are all under $100 .. can get replacement filters for $40 for all 3 and they will need replacing once a year or so....

The gal rating as Rad said is the rate at which the filtered water flows out PER DAY. Yeah wtf ... does that make any sense? No... not really.. We run both ... a 50 gal and a 100 gal. We filter water into Carboys which are large 3-5-7 gallon glass jugs.. We use the 3gal and 5 gal for drinking cooking.. I have the filter hooked up in the wash room and run the drain down the drain at the washing machine and the filtered water into the Carboy.. 3gal is easier to carry... for a family of 2 we fill that up several times a day ... say 3-4 for drinking and cooking. I have the 100gal RO filter set up to fill my 60 gal res in my grow room... All I do is turn on the water ... let it run into the res for 1/2 day and I have 50 gallons RO water... the res is hooked up to direct to potted plants watering is done either automatically or I turn the valve at the res open or open and shut..

The RO Buddie is inexpensive and is good enough... I have a PPM meter that I ONLY use to measure the RO water.. its less that 10ppm and the PH will be 6.5 (not that I care). If you need help or advice with hookup hit me with a PM, my wife is the RO connection expert.. she's got an old suite case full of parts for just this deal... the water is actually very very tasty. Once we went RO water ... I kicked any soda or juices (full of sugar) to the curb and now drink Sparking water or Mineral Water (w/kombucha) for my special treat.. much healthier and I feel better too.

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

... My RO system doesn't have a drain ... :hmmmm: ... ?

Just a bunch of filter stage cylinders, and a 3 gallon expansion tank. One of those that you see in the big box stores.

:scratchinghead:

There is probaby a waste water line draining somewhere. The RO divides the water into Ro water and waste water. It's not something you turn on or off, it just happens. If you don't have a waste water line, or an electrical pump, it's a pressurized filter system rather than an RO system. -

That doesn't mean it won't work fine. :) It might mean it needs more frequent filter changes.

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Bob Brown, if i did a RO system it would be just for drinking water and the tent. The tent I can fill up a few 5 gal buckets. If I did it that would be my plan Im thinking. I have an old, broken cabinet dishwasher next to the kitchen sink I can remove and put a water tank in. Also under the sink too maybe? And the Theres the dishwasher drain in the sink that the spicket can be put? So thats where Im at, a small one under the sink and or a tank in the old dishwasher cabinet. Whats next??? My tap water dosent taste bad but I know it is. Its heavily mineralized well water thats unhealthy with a avg. PH at 8.0.
A small one under the sink? I saw a sink under for like $200. A 50 gal a day is more than enough. Whats next B.brown?? I appreciate all your effort!!! Namaste!

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Thank you Radogast & bobrown for good RO info that will be helpful to anyone thinking about a RO system. Thanks bob on the pictures....not a new camera (yet), still using my iPad.

Chemdog
Authentic, uncrossed Chemdogs are few & far between. In fem form even more so. It's so pathetic when breeders trying to capitalize on the Chem reputation by offering crosses & calling them real Chems. An example of what I mean is BlimBurn's Chem 4 is Green Crack x Chem 4 (supposedly anyway). Pic even looks like predominately GC w/ its high abundance of red hairs. Just venting...sorry.

Dinafem DinaChem & Loud Headband
I've had a DinaChem freebie for 3+ yrs., have always wanted to grow it, & finally got around to her. Listed as an authentic '91 that was losing vigor & crossed w/ Top Dawg's Guava to strengthen her. Top Dawg has worked with Chems since the 90's & is arguably the single best Chem source in existence. Only regular seeds, & prices may scare anyone who aren't Chem fanatics. South Fork is another killer Chem house, also only regulars.

Chemdog isn't a fast flowering strain. Sometimes it has little/no smell or even visible trichomes until later than most strains. This DinaChem had low trichomes early, some spongy buds, but smelled floral while growing. She finished well....buds hardened & gave me the highest yield of the grow. Dry buds not very fragrant until you break one up. Then the Chemdog lemon, gassy, fuel smell is unmistakable. The taste when vaped is also standard Chemdog....what I describe as a little "soapy", like when you were a kid & accidentally get a bit of soap in your mouth. Sounds lousy but actually rather good...very distinctive.

Loud's Headband was a beauty queen from the start even though the pH issues troubled her more than others. Same deal here....no strong bud smell until broken up. Then again very typically Chemdog. Both the HB & DC had typical Chemdog effect but were noticeably different from each other. The Headband is like the Cali Connection Chem 91....uplifting, initial sativa liftoff, very euphoric but also strong, dynamic but comfortable body effect, not sleep/couch lock inducing at all. DinaChem was less euphoric, less of its sativa side & more of its indica side show through. It is still very enjoyable, mellower than HB. It also had a high yield. If you're interested in feminized Chem 91's, then these are recommendable. I have more seeds of each & will grow them again.

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Yeah BL I hear ya on the Chemdawg line... for sure. You had asked me a while back when I ran that first purple pheno I had/have and did some research and found some interesting info.. There was in fact a purple version that came out of Humboldt Co back in the day.

I got my seeds from Humboldt Seed Co... so maybe something there. I've grown a lot of the relatives and can pretty quickly tell from the taste of first puff and the smell of the fresh buds. Very distinctive...

Anytime buds test in the +30% THC there's going to be a ban wagon forming that's 100%.

Don't quote me on this but I even thought I read that Ken of Grand Daddy Purps fame got one of the Chemdawd purp pheno's and that's how he got to his purps gear up to speed. I am by no means an expert on genetics and I've got a distinct feeling that neither are a lot of the breeders hawking seeds @ $10/seed. Unfortunately its the dollar and the bag appeal driving the seed market..

Everybody wants the biggest bestest latest greatest... shame really that's how we loose all the Heirloom genetics which are extremely important, at least to me anyways.

4D - on the RO Buddie... it's designed originally to be an add-on to an RV sink setup. So can be hooked up to your faucet or another 2nd faucet at the sink.. we do a lot of cooking and don't have the room at the sink so we installed in our laundry room at the water connect for the washing machine and there's a drain right there for the waste water and RO into buckets or Carboys like we use.

If you have the room they have the under the counter deals but again needs a 2nd little faucet thing that I'm not a fan of...

So "for us" its carry some water a few feet and keep a bottle of water handy in the kitchen just not on the counter top... if that makes any sense.

BL love that DinaChem...hahaha purps, who doesn't like purps? Looks real tasty.
A few of my friends see that and they get spoiled right quick... yawn at bright green buds that are way beyond top shelf! I don't even show them purps anymore for that reason. Keep that strictly for personal consumption...

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Dinachem! Ive said many times I love Chem Dog. Very nice to read about it! it seems the seed co. that dont offer feminized seeds are a better breeder? Curious with that thinking?
An RO system, thanks for the help/info. Much appreciated. I havent made the decision but thinking an under sink, 50 gal. I saw some for $200. and figure another $200. for a plumber. So $400. total range. Honestly I need it more for drinking water than the plants. It would be great for both. My tent shook off the funk and look beautiful!! The seeds of fire got some Dolomite and their beautiful! I might top of the others with some Dolomite too. Thanks!!

Your DinaChem description made me salivate - a sign of a good review :)

Grow some good Chemdog, & you will salivate again. :cheertwo:

I sometimes wonder why I don't see more Chem & Chem cross grows since it's rep & notoriety is so widely known. There is a Purple Chemdog out there that's 75% Chem & 25% GDP, but IDK the exact breeder. Nspecta at CSI Humboldt crosses a lot of Chem with his Mendo Purps & Purple Urkle. Colored herb is the name of the game these days. Yes it seems everyone likes HSO & all reports generally good on its strains. I have a bunch of their freebies that I wish to grow at some point. It's actually a British based company with some connections to NorCal, but have seen scuttlebutt that many strains aren't really from NorCal, but I don't really know. :high-five:

Many breeders don't offer feminized seeds. The regular vs. feminized argument is endless. There is, however, ample info out there that fems are just as potent as regulars. So that's good enough for me. Plus so much convenient for my little indoor garden. Some say fems have more hermies. Most of that input is really grower error imo. That dreaded inter-sex trait is natural & buried down in all strains. The best Thai in the world will hermie consistently...the trait is very evident with Thais. If I wanted to just stick to a few strains, then yes Dutch regulars would be best so I could do selection. But even popping an entire 10 pack of regs you may get at best 6-7 female, so that really isn't much to select from. Good breeders will select from hundreds to find best phenos. When I only grew outdoors, I actually bought more regs than fems. I'm a strain chaser....so many I want to grow so no time/room to focus on even my top favorites through regulars, mothers, selection. :passitleft:

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Grow some good Chemdog, & you will salivate again. :cheertwo:

I'm inching my way that direction - maybe.

This grow I've added HSO Bubba's Gift (OG Kush/Chemdog in every parent) and HSO Amherst Sour Diesel (Dead Head weed.)

On the other hand, I'm also trying my first taste of a pure sativa ACE Lily, and an ACE Mix freebie (likely sativa dominant.)

These new strains are up against my wife's favorites from previous grows (AK47, Borderliner, and Hawaiian Skunk) and a home crossed Tangerine Widow.

There are a lot of strains out there. One of the reasons I follow your thread is to hear about great strains worth growing :)

If someone could just tell me the perfect strain for each member of the family, I'd save time and money

- - -

I'm really interested to see how the Bubba's Gift, with all that OG Kush, comes out. So far, It's been a real pleasure in veg.
