see here is the girl i jus chopped the other day after drying almost all the way not quite so alil mre will drop off in end weight im guessing but for rite nw its an even 50 gs so not to great of a yield but hopefully now with better seeds tht will change i have come to start using the name broken simmons as in gene simmons for my broken genetic or broken gene plants roflmao

here will be my last broken simmons:laughtwo: girl i do unless for sumreason i cant get seeds any mre im done with the lesser quality seeds lol i mean dnt get me wrong wen u got nuthn else they get the job done but after all my effort and time and MONEY i want better quality so hopefully its about here haha but yea look she has triplets lol the lil buds are prefectly even all across so hopefully they turn into nice big fat buds :cheertwo:

20170213_021035.jpg

man now this a party bowl lol ha

Don't forget to corner the bowl - leave a little fresh nug for someone else :)

Frosty goodness on your broken simmons - We all want better, but 50g needs no apology. (5g you got a problem.)

I'm far from expert at growing big buds, but to improve, I'd look first at your environmentals (Temp, RH, light, fresh air, watering schedules) and time spent in veg.

k so this is my early vixen jus put into soil and i kinda dunked the roots into roots organism xl plus sprinkled sum into the hole and mixed up alil but here she is
20170219_144037.jpg

and went i went into turn lights off jus alil bit ago i noticed her looking like this :thedoubletake: idk if she guna make it or not but if i remember right the last time i used the roots xl like tht directly onto the roots it didnt do so well but if i put it into the soil after its starting then they seem to do WAY better juslook at my one in veg rite nw tht got it in the soil after she was about 2 ana half weeks old r so and she is booming along lol i cant wait to get the wireing installed in the grow room so i can hook up my bigger lights im pushn max wattage in the back here so in order not to keep triping my breaker on the other side of the house which is in my grandparents room i have to install a wire running from the breaker box and a new fuse i got put in to the other side of the house where the grow room is lol and i have to get under the house to get to the wireing and the fact i have arachnaphobia like SUPER BAD i am NOT lookn forward to climbing under the whole house jesus this is guna suck ive been lookn forward to this and dreading it at the same time all winter lol and now its starting to thaw out around here and its warming up i think i mite do it quick if enuf ice has melted b4 we get one las freeze over it happens like this every year lol dam mother nature tryn to trick me it gets all nice for like a week ana half to 2weeks then freezes again for about 3 more weeks 2 a month but the last 3 years or so the first warm period has been getting longer so maybe this year enuf of the ice will have melted so i can get under the house and put tht dam wire in and then ill be able to hook up some mre power ohhhh yeah baby then the big boys come out 2 play ive been thinkn about getting another 250w hps to put up along with the 1 i have and then get maybe a 1200w led and take down my 2 150w mars and keep my 600w i got up n use the 1200w or keep what i got and jus get the 250w hps ballast and another 600w led idk its all food for thought but below is my ev clone not doin so hot :thedoubletake:

20170219_215851.jpg

ive been tossing around the idea of keeping my hps going during flower this has been my first harvest of both led and hps and im pretty happy with the results so i figure if i boost the hps output by getting another one i will really be in the business lol but yeah does any 1 know of a hps hood setup tht i can use without the need for a ballast i wana get one like the one i have tht can plug right into the wall but its only 250w so im wondering is do they make them more then 250w and able to plug into the wall or is it after 250w u need a ballast?? ive tryd looking this up online and i cant seem to find what im needing lol so i figured i mite as well take it to the masters of our craft the people on here so if any1 has any info i wud greatly appreciate :thanks: and :Namaste:

An HPS light is going to need a ballast - just like a flourescent light needs a ballast.

Most flourescent ballasts are 'built-in' - either in the fixture for long tubes or the bulb base for CFL bulbs.
Most HPS have external ballasts - the hood is separate. Electronic ballasts are the preferred ballasts.

An HPS ballast built into a hood is likely to be a cheaper, non-electronic ballast.

Sorry about the arachnaphobia. You really want a dedicated circuit for your grow lights. I have 2 20 AMP circuits; one for the HPS flower lights, one for the veg light and everything else.

oh nice :thanks: for the info i didnt relize the hood had a ballast in it cause i order way back wen i first started out a 1000w hps and hood and found out i wud need a ballast for it i cudnt jus plug it into the wall it had an stype of plug and i needed a mougal i think is how it went lol its been almost a year since i was messin with all tht but now im getting closer to hookn up another 15 amp circuit i wana get bigger lights not keep on getting smaller 1s cause they r cheaper at the tyme or as in wen i first started didnt relize how much light i wud really need thinkn oh one plant wud be enuf and nope it wasnt i caught the fever of growing lol jus being able to get watever strain i want 4 the most part and not having to pay out the ass for it shit i get roughly an ounce ana half to 2 ana half ounces and at 225$ an ounce on the street is jus to much plus then its not always the best quality so yea no mre of tht bs thank god lol but yea do u know if they have hoods with a built in ballast tht go up 2 600w or more

Hey there Blaze... congrats on the 50gs bro... :thumb: 50g of organic is 50g more than I would smoke of the chem weed, just sayin...

Ok I can help with the tripping circuit deal.

On one circuit going to the fuse box. Max wattage is 1500 watts... 15 amps is 1800 watts but you need some head room or wires and fuses start to complain... safety first.

Now once your circuit is maxed at 1500w your timer is not up to the task. As soon as lights on... there's a HUGE spike with all the power supplies firing up at the same time.. that is why you're blowing fuses... lucky you haven't blown out the timer yet.. it's next for sure trust me been there.

You will need a heavy duty 20 amp timer for pool pumps, dont worry even tho you're on a 15w circuit its the inrush current that burns up the fuses and the timers (with built in fuses).

Here's what I do:

Get a decent power strip that has surge protection.. most all of them do.

Get a 20A pool filter and associated connectors.

Plug all lights into the surge protector and the surge protector into the 20A timer and the 20A timer into the wall outlet.

20A timer from Amazon....

search for:

Intermatic P1131 Heavy Duty Above Ground Pool Pump Timer with Twist Lock Plug and Receptacle - this is the timer.

Special cables:

1 of these: Coleman Cable 09020 12/3 9-Inch Generator Cord Adapter, 5-15P to L5-20R

1 of these : Coleman Cable 09021 12/3 9-Inch Generator Cord Adapter, L5-20P to 5-15R

Reason for the cables is the 20A timer. They are not regular plugs. Dont worry you won't be able to add more than 1500 watts to the circuit .. your house circuit fuse will blow... but this will handle the inrush current at lights on, keep you fuses from blowing and more importantly, your safety. I'd rather run an extra LED instead of the HID ... for the heat and if the lamp falls ... there's no safety off on the HID.

My house is OLD with VERY old wiring... this setup works for me. I got tired of replacing GOOD expensive timers. Most timers are rated for 1250 watts MAYBE.. and that doesn't account for inrush current at turn on.

oh nice :thanks: for the info i didnt relize the hood had a ballast in it cause i order way back wen i first started out a 1000w hps and hood and found out i wud need a ballast for it i cudnt jus plug it into the wall it had an stype of plug and i needed a mougal i think is how it went lol its been almost a year since i was messin with all tht but now im getting closer to hookn up another 15 amp circuit i wana get bigger lights not keep on getting smaller 1s cause they r cheaper at the tyme or as in wen i first started didnt relize how much light i wud really need thinkn oh one plant wud be enuf and nope it wasnt i caught the fever of growing lol jus being able to get watever strain i want 4 the most part and not having to pay out the ass for it shit i get roughly an ounce ana half to 2 ana half ounces and at 225$ an ounce on the street is jus to much plus then its not always the best quality so yea no mre of tht bs thank god lol but yea do u know if they have hoods with a built in ballast tht go up 2 600w or more

There is nothing wrong with an external ballast- to (almost) answer the question you asked- I just checked on Amazon, first hit on a combo pack was from Vivosun - 600W for $163 - 1000W for $200.

What You Get: VIVOSUN 600w HPS bulb, 600w MH bulb, 600w digital ballast (8ft 120v power cord), reflector, a pair of 1/8" rope ratchet hanger, 7-day dual outlet digital timer, our fan-favorite 3-year warranty (Ballast only) and friendly customer service

I'm not saying this is a good deal or a bad deal, but there is no reason to look for a built in ballast.
(Bob - FYI: My digital ballast has the safety off feature for an HPS bulb that is drawing too much. I think it's standard on digital ballasts)

But I think you should pay attention to bobrown14's thoughts - Consider an LED. 3 years ago when I was buying lights, there was more hype than knowledge about LEDs - that changed fast. Lots of knowledge on LEDs.

Would you prefer spending 1/5 the electricity cost for the same amount of light?
Wouldn't it be nice to run a cooler room off your existing wiring and not have to crawl under the house?

At some point, when my growing skills improve, and I see my yield is limitted by my lights, (or if a ballast fails,) I'll be buying an LED - until then I'm an old-ish man using old HPS technology. You are younger than I am :)

Well awesome for all tht info n basically i was jus wantn to increase my light to fit mre plants in my grow room rite nw i dnt really have the room for the amoumt of light i have 2 setup another tent like i wana do so i can do breeding but as it stands rite now i dnt really have enuf room for me 2 feel comfortable givn up sum space for sum of the regular beans to end up male rite now all i run is fem beans. Its the best way i can manage my space to get the amount i need hopefully tht will change nw im using better beans n its funny u say i shud get another led instead of hps the last two times i went to get a new hps hood n watnot i ended up jus going ahead and bought an led lol idk but yea i cant get away from them i did notice my plants started getn all the nodes bunched up not very long and shorter length wen they hit the stretch also so tht was y i was thinkn about adding another hps instead of another led and also im not triping my fusebox any mre nw tht i went to led n took out all the useless appliances in the grow room only if i wana do mre im guna need to add another circuit breaker my place is also OLD AS SHIT lol very old wiring i hate it sumtymes but it gets the job just means lots of repairs haha but yea thanx for all the info ill definitely be coming bak to this post wen i do my wiring lol

Blaze.. reason for offering up the electrical deal is due to safety and running long extension chords at MAX circuit ~1500w.

2 reasons:

1 safety - easy to frey a long extension chord creating a hazard.
2 safety - long chords get hot

Extension chords (long ones) are meant to be temporary. Like 1 day max not for extended (days and days) use!

There's a difference between a power cable and an extension chord. Power cables like what we need in this application should be 12/2 w ground and are typically in the 10 -15ft lengths nothing longer or its an extension chord. Long runs tend to have too much resistance and that is what causes heat.

To me it doesn't matter about what type lamp you use... I've used bith HID and LED.. I can run my 3rd floor setup with LED in the summer time no AC.. not true with HID. I need AC.

I use the same amount of electricity with LED as HID just have more lighting ... as I'm progressing thru the technology the LED lamps are getting MUCH better at efficiency of scale. Meaning more light with less electricity and that means there's more energy going to the actual light VS light and heat... there's always going to be heat generated can not get away from that. Its just physics. It's currently impossible to generate light @ 100% efficiency.. so whats not light is heat.

So lets say an LED lamp is 50% efficient (not true used as an argument here) it generates the other 50% of energy as heat.

The only reason for me to go LED is so I don't have to use AC.. that simple. HID will yield more ... not sure about THC or Terpenes tho. I'd bet LED is better at frost generation from my experience. I probably already spent way more money on LED tech than the savings.

Blaze .. if you want to I have HID digital ballast and cool-tube lamp 600w I'm not using - PM me if interested. Also have old school 400w HID with non-digital heavy duty ballast.. these lamps are BRIGHT! wow... the other reason I don't use them.. they are blinding.

Rad - what I meant about the heat and HID lighting is if the lamp falls down... it won't necessarily heat up the ballast but more like burn up everything touching it.. that's what I meant about the heat deal I mentioned earlier. The HID ballasts are safe for sure. The old school ballasts are so heavy duty they are even safer IMHO... You'd have to spill water on it to be a hazard.

Blaze.. sorry if I come off a know-it-all.. I'm a retired engineer.. so electricity and building shit is my thing.. what I do what I love; growing shit is my "hobby" I've been doing since I was in pre-school...started growing beans in the window... Bob's Beans... think Jack in the Beanstalk to the ceiling and higher ... everyone else in class... not so much. Green thumb deal.. you have it. I can see in the plants you grow... you are building soil.. feed the soil microbes and the soil feeds the plants.

All the bottles stuff comes from Hydroponics..then some brite soul decided it works in soil and Monsanto ..... fuck.

hey bb thanx for the input and im glad u come off as a know it all lol cause im a not know much kinda guy lol not really but kinda thts y i like to learn from know it alls lol but real thanx and as for my wiring i dont have any extension cords going to my lights or anywhere i jus have 2 power strips one for the left side and one for the right side jus for my lights and its not at max output so im gud there but if i want to put another light up ill need to add another circuit to my breaker then run the wire to the grow room

small update i decided to try out some new training techniques on the ladies first off for the veg tent i uppotted one of my ev to a 5gal bucket with my los mix in it:MoreNutes: man the ladies taste so dam good done organicaly here is my girl i uppoted i planed on fluxing her as well but relized i did it wrong lol i shud have topped her and hold the 2 tops to the side i learned this tech from reading light addicts journals

20170222_023357.jpg

thts how much i snipped off incase any1 was reading and wanted to try this its jus the top part of the bud and i guess its supposed to make the buds bigger wen it heals so we will see but from the looks of la's girls in his journals (light addict is who i got this tech from) so any1 lookn to try this out go give his journals a look threw but from the looks of his girls this tech seems to work pretty gud so lets cross r fingers and hope it works for these ladies as well :cheertwo:

Not too late to flux this one. Her trunk is still under 3". You could shift the rootball to the center.

If I were you i'd try it because you can't do a flux, fim, or top to double branches on a clone Clones have alternate branches instead of parallel branches. That's where the bending over technique is useful. Since I do mostly clones, it's a treat to have a seedling to play with :)

LightAddict is great on his training threads - isn't he ?

Rad... awesome... I was wondering why all my clones this round are alternate branched... What's the best way to train them like that? I've got several more Chemdawg clones, they are all alternate branching and they start to get unruly, kinda spreading around with thin stalks. I prefer larger main stem plants.

Blaze... did you try some of those buds you just harvested yet??

Yes i sure did lol and obviously taste isnt the best yet but man did i get high lol i smoked a bowl 2 myself last night n i woke up in my chair 2 ana half hours later 1/4 bowl still left sitn on my lap haha got so high i passd out watchn the show 12 monkeys n thts like my favorite show rite nw so if i fell asleep during it i musta been doin sumthn right lol i jus hope now with sum gud beans the buds i grow dnt come out so leafy the plants i been growing from have been really leafy so the taste always ends up kinda crappy so hopefully tht changes now

yea la is awesome on training for sure he really knows what hes doin. but yea also since ill be doing alot of cloning what kinda training can u do for them i want to get big nice fat buds the 1s i been getting have been really leafy and then the taste ends up shit after i harvest and cure and also the smell ends up going to a hay like smell after alil while curing

I wish I friggin' knew how to train a clone with alternate branching. Last grow I had the main trunk 2" above the soil 3/4 of the way around the pot rim, and was working on training the secondaries when I decided to move and just tossed her into flower. It might have worked. I don't know.

Right now, I have a little AK47 about the size and shape of a candy cane. My goal is to keep bending down the leaders to force grow into the lower nodes - then bend those down. It won't be pretty like topping and fim'ing but will hopefully work out a lot like a scrog :)

I wish I knew an answer - Some of bud thivkness is genetic. Some is bound to be environmental.

The Growkashi in the soil that you started looked impressive, your lights seem powerful, and you are doing nutrients according to a reliable system. To maximum your grow, I think we all can benefit from fine tuning temperature, RH, and watering techniques in both veg and flower.

It also helps a lot to veg large plants before putting them into flower. My 183g girl had 3 extra weeks vegging under the flower lights because she didn't want to go into flower. The girl I put in on the same day came in at 66g and the one after her at 70g. 3 plants, 3 different strains, but the extra 12" she grew before flowering must have played a big part in more than doubling the yield. :)

The 66g girl actually had one impressive cola. Not fat, but about 10 inches long :)

yea thts what im working on rite now with this run is xtra veg time i also noticed with one of my previous girls i got slightly mre off of the girl tht had 2 wait an xtra 2 weeks almost due to space limitations at the time and with this last grow im doing rite now im noticing way nicer buds then b4 jus by letting her flower longer im jus guna let her go till the pistals stop growing or i hit like 60 70% amber triches which ever comes first

So small update: i did a foiler spray at 1am of all the girls and i used a half cup of the tea i had brewd the other day and jarred in the fridge mixxed in with a half gal of ro water and into the sprayer. Also i gave about 75 ml of coconut water to veg girls and about 125ml to flower girls.

foiler/tea: kelp, kashi, alfalfa, ewc, compost and rite wen i did the foiler spraying i added a splash of coconut water to it all

and dam jus caught tht 10incher there nice job on tht cola what was tht strain in the pic?
