BigBearNTX Perpetual Auto Grow

Both sides have their own intake openings and top opening for exhaust. I could buy a more powerful inline fan and have it pull from both sides with a Y. But I would also have to reconfigure to have the fan outside the tent and have either an inline style filter, or push to the filter instead of pull through, and I don’t that’s as efficient.

yeah, you don't want to push through a filter really with these fans. A Y would be the way to go with some type of damper on each leg, easy enough if you need to do it. Really easy with 4", whats volume of each side?

I have the carbon filter, and exhaust through attic 6". I might just dump the carbon filter on the exhaust since it's going north pretty well and just run a scrubber in the tent (24/7) alongside the scrubber in the closet outside the tent and replace vent with 4" to run for heat exhaust only. I get about 6 months to a filter, unless it's a Can.

Total volume on the large side is 18cft, small is 9cft. I don’t need anything massive, a simple sliding damper would work fine. Small side would be seedlings and veg, so minimal smell.

I wish I could vent into the attic, but I’m not sure the Roommate would be happy with me cutting a hole in his ceiling. Lol

I am lucky, my house has two crawlspaces apart from a very sealed firewall, entry into one is in my closet, and I vent to the eve there, another reason I am thinking of getting rid of carbon on the exhaust.

4" all the way. Prob dont need to vent the seedling veg side, just leave open.

Looks great Bear!

I placed my scrubber outside the tent in a duct and hoses running to the flower tent and some air pulling outside were the mothers are living. Gives me a lot of extra space in the tent. I think this is the hard part of growing, getting the air to circulate like I want to. There is always some draft in my apartment that affects the smell level, most of the time I'm happy but sometimes I think it smells way more than I want it to. Got nosy neighbors?

No update last weekend because the girls are in a boring stage right now. In bloom, growing well, but visually not much different yet than the past few weeks. The next few weeks should show some changes, I figure they have about three to four weeks left. For some reason this batch seems slower than the last one, but that could just be my imagination.

The exciting news: I purchased a new inline fan, muffler for the fan AND NEW LIGHTS!!!

Went with the HLG 100 V2 Quantum board, 3000K. Probably should have went for the 4000K, but 3000K should work fine. I hope. Probably sure. [/Buyers remorse]

In any case, everything should arrive Saturday, so I’ll be installing on Sunday and post pics.

HEya Bear,

Looking great in the garden. Do you know that feeling the girls just look a little greener when they are doing great :cheer:

The clones will get over the humidity weekend;) Do you give them water or nutes already? just curious to see if you might be able to finetune that bit more :)

Have a great day bro:hippy:

3k is what I would have picked.

That’s good to hear. Since I have limited space and resources, I wanted a versatile light, both for autos and photos, which is why I was second guessing my choice in color temp. But then again, I’m not a commercial grower, so the difference between color spectrum for me should be minimal. For my grows, I think the true improvement is going to be in temperature reduction come summer, coverage, and intensity, all of which will be improved with the QB.

Funny you should mention humidity, because there has been a change in the past two weeks since I got the larger tent, and because I’ve been having problems with the inline fan for exhaust.

Since upgrading my tent, my feeding schedule has changed. Previously, my plants would be ready for water/nutes every two days, three days max. On the third day, they would be light as a feather - but not drooping.

Since the change, the temp in the tent is lower, and the humidity is higher, so they aren’t going through water/nutes as fast - even at three days the pots are still pretty heavy. I blame this on lower temps, because there is more cubic space my lights aren’t heating the tent up as much, and the fan not being as efficient at exhausting the air, and so my humidity is higher.

Right now I’m growing in 2L hempy with perlite and coco, and at this stage of growth the humidity is okay, but I don’t want to run the risk of mold in the last stage of the grow when the buds start getting dense. Mold has never been a problem for me, but it may be something that’s I have to watch out for until I get everything dialed in again.

Just goes to show that changing one variable can knock everything out of alignment, and right now I have two variables that have changed.

And you have a great day too, NS!

Thanks @HiddenGrow, that makes me feel better.

Everything was delivered and installed today. It was...an adventure. Lol

Fan came first, so I installed that first. The old fan I had been limping along with died, died, died. Tent was so wet the walls were dripping. Should be fixed by morning.
Installing the thing was a bitch. My last one was plastic, and so I just suspended it off the bar in the closet. This one is powder coated metal and larger, so had to screw it into the top of the space, the bottom of the first shelf in that closet. Which involved a flex extension for the drill, some creative thinking to support it while drilling, and a lot of cursing.

Attaching the hoses was also a bitch. Would it kill them to make the flange wider? Trying to hold the hose and clamp on the flange with one hand and tighten with the other was also a bitch. The clamp slipped off a couple of times, it was just a fucking hassle. I got it done, with no bloody knuckles, but it was a PITA.

Because of where I had to screw in the fan, I don’t have room for the muffler to attach to the fan. The fan itself is pretty quiet, and the flex hose works as a bit of an accoustic baffle with the accordion folds, so I may not need the muffler.

New light is awesome. It’s pretty yellow, so I’m glad that I’ve had multiple comments saying that 3000k should be fine. It also took a bit to get that rigged up like I wanted it. The hanger that came with it would have put the light too low, so had to dig out my ratcheting hangers. I’ve got it hung, but I’ll play with it more tomorrow to stabilize it a bit more.

Also found out my interior fan was pretty much dead as well. Swiched it out with another I had around.

Also, because I’m an idiot, I didn’t move my plants out before doing all this and dropped shit inside onto the plants a lot. Luckily no damage. You would think I would have thought to move the plants the first time the fan fell, but no, just now thought of it as I was typing this. It was supposed to be a quick thing to just take out the old lights and hang the new ones. But noooooo! Lol

So I should be good to go on equipment for a while. Interior fans die, but big ticket items are all upgraded for now.

Also, apparently cuss words are the words of the day with today’s update. Lol

Buds are finally starting to look good. I’ll try to get a shot of those tomorrow.

I’m not great at taking pics in the new tent yet.

Pic on left is the left side of the tent. Right is right side. Had two different flash effects, so including both for variety

Hi Bear! It’s nice to drop in here and see that you’ve just landed a whole lot of new gear :thumb: ANd no set up would be complete without an array of swears I think :laughtwo:

I also agreee that 3000k will do you fine. My DIY QB is 5 panels of 3500k - it’s great too, but if I ever re-jig it, I might change out some panels for some 3000s. I’m no expert, but I think you made the right choice :)

Can you tell me what your new fan is? I’m contemplating better exhaust. I have a real noise issue tho because the tent is in my bedroom so i need something I can feasibly sleep through. ATM 2xcomputer fans seem noisy  Anyhoo- swear inducing flanges aside, what brand/model is your fan?

Hope all is well in work and play :Namaste:

Hi Ms. Amy!

I’m not sure that this would be an improvement over computer fans. It’s still loud, it’s all just relative to what one finds acceptable. I can close the doors of the closet to further muffle the sound, but I can tell it’s there. I don’t mind, I actually can’t sleep in a totally quiet room, so I always have a fan going anyway.

Got in the tent to do a through feeding today. These girls really want to be bushes. After watering and putting back the first three, I decided to trim up the remaining six as I watered. I keep telling them I just want one cola, but they are insisting on spreading out to fill the space. So a little snip, snip, and we’ll see how they look next week. I let the other three for controls. I should have plenty come harvest time, whether I trim today or not, but I want them spending their energy on developing the main cola, not side branches.

Tried to take a photo, but really should have moved them to a better location to highlight the difference.

Plant on the left is untrimmed this week, right got a haircut
