Big Foot Scrog In Coco

Makes me nervous when I hear no ph pen. Best of luck. Coco for everyone. Woohoo. The coco club. Hahaha. I'll stick around to see how this turns out.
Lol it's either going to be awesome or horrible! The ph pen won't be far away I'll tell you that! Nice to have you.

I'm by no means a ph Nazi but being my first grow I just want to limit the chances of making mistakes. And I've heard ph ur water when u mix nutes then ph the run off but I just ph when I mix my nutes in and let the rest handle itself. The first batch I made tho I noticed after a day or 2 the ph went up and I adjusted it but since then I haven't bothered to check the water between waterings. Just once when I mix and call it good. Plants don't mind so I let them tell me if there's a problem. Only a few weeks in and they haven't complained so I'm happy.

I've been using AN pH perfect for coco and still check my pH
I would still do the same thing. I'm not sure if the nutes I run have that same ph perfect attribute but I always have to ph down. I have a bottle of ph up that I'll never use. Being a rookie and going to a hydro store. They always get you to buy one or two things you'll never need. 12 bucks wasted.

Ya the ph is pretty important for sure.. Supposedly the AN nutes can adjust the solution to the proper range somehow and/or they use a variety of mineral chelation types to promote uptake over different ph levels. Or so I have read....Last time around I always checked /adjusted ph going in only , but it's tiring lol.. Yup your solution will almost always rise for a couple days, not sure why but sometimes it is quite a bit I have noticed.

Yea I dunno why it goes up. There's a logical reason behind it but I just don't know it yet. And for me sometimes my gallon lasts 5 days or so. And I'm sure the ph must get up into the mid 6's which is not good for coco. But as I said. When the girls tell me there's an issue then I'll start being more picky. I just can't be bothered right now. Too busy to keep calibrating and testing the water. And kinda lazy. I'll be honest.

Haha we appreciate your honesty. I am lazy too that's why I was hoping to get away with no ph'ing but it's probably too good to be true lol

Actually it's probably good to let the ph gradually go up and down a bit anyway long as it is not too far or too long

I would say it wouldn't hurt to check once in a while. At least once I'd check just for curiosity. But that's just me. I'm keeping my ph down close by. I always have to add. Altho I've noticed now that I'm getting to full strength nutes that I have to add less ph down. So really once I mix full strength the ph is good if I was in soil. It hovers in the mid 6's if I remember correctly. So it probable has been optimized to work in soil grows.

So you still add ph down?
My rainwater is right about pH 7.0 after adding nutes and shaking the container for about 30 seconds and check the pH it sits right at 6.0 now after a few days it might start to rise but not high enough to worry and my container only lasts 2 1/2 days. Now I'm working on my auto water system and it will hold a weeks worth so I'll keep a eye on it then for sure. If it gets over 6.8 I'll give it a drop of pH down

Cool, my water is a lot higher to begin with so should be interesting to see what happens. They claim it works for water ph up to 8.5 or something.

Yeh and they say that even around pH of 7 or higher that plants should be able to uptake the nutes. I would just rather have it where it seems to do best

Hey Velk! Awesome are you using the regular AN sensi nutes or the specific ones for coco? I guess we will see about not needing to ph! My water is 8.3 to start and usually high 7's after mixing the nutrients so I have been needing plenty of ph down.

im using the coco ph perfect the one made for coco i was skeptical about the ph perfect range theres a vifd on you tube that shows u 3 diffrent water types including your high 8.3 it self adjusts it to the needed ph of the plant so i ran the test my self phed my water 1st then added the ph perfect gave a good mix and it actually work from then i didnt bother with the ph pen i did check once or twice more to make sure but other than that havent been using so this time i will brave it with no ph pen coco is much easyer to correct deficentcys aswell witch i like i remember starting of on coco with canna coco range phing was such a pain run of and mixing nutes then correcting the ph on top of watering every day made it a task this has simplafied alot for me :Namaste:

That's great info thanks! Do you have a journal going?

After reading all the good stuff about Coco, I decided to give it a go, but with my own twist. I put a few layers of various mediums in the Coco to replicate soil. I have a couple of layers of clay balls, one of Vermiculite and at the very bottom some nice fine sand. I have done this with Chillies in the past and had crazy results. It makes the roots seek out moisture, plus each layer hold nutrients which the roots spread out to get.

I will be interested to see how it goes!
