BeezLuiz & LiquidIntel Are At It Again: Outdoor Grow Season 3

The photo period plants are stretching pretty fast right now and drinking every day! I realized it's been a while since I posted any pics of the photo girls, so here we go:cool: .

Gorilla Breath:
Gorilla Breath 2 is in just a 10 gallon pot, but it's actually doing just as well as the other two that are in 20 gal. I'm calling 7/16 as first day of flower so it's now in day 7 of flower. Today it's measuring 48" tall.
Gorilla Breath 1 is still hanging in there. It went into early flower, then revegged, but now seems to be going back into flower again.

Dr. Seedsman CBD:
Dr. S is doing well and has been in flower mode since 7/11. Today it's measuring 46" tall even though it seems taller in the group shot because of the cart it is sitting on.

Killer A5 Haze:
Killer Haze is growing crazy fast right now, which makes sense as it's mostly Sativa. It's at day 115 and although it's shown pre-flowers for a while now, I don't really see much in the way of actual flowering yet, but soon! She's the tallest of the three at 55".
Close inspection of her leaves indicate just a tiny bit of nute burn, but that's just about where I was aiming so I'm keeping the feed the same for now. I'll be switching to bloom nutes soon.

LOVE it, your outdoor grows have been such an inspiration since I first joined here.
Such kind words - Thank You!
Just so I can note it in my spreadsheet, is the GB2 48" tall including the wheelbarrow?
:laughtwo:
You may have covered this before, but I don’t recall how you are controlling the light cycles?
All light cycles are controlled by the big ball of fire in the sky!
That would be unsettling...!! :laughtwo:
But so cool if I could...
GUMMIES!!!!!!! Those look great man.
Thanks Age. There were pretty tasty. :meatballs:
Isn’t there already at least one other personage in the South Bay that considers himself a supreme being? lol
I'm sure there's more than one!

You're killin' it up there, Beez!
I've got a lemon tree in my yard that's not as big as that KA5H! :welldone:

The flowering trigger is so strain-dependent. And apparently also depends on where the seed was bred.

You can use this chart, and information from the breeder, to estimate how many hours of darkness will trigger flowering, and about when that should be.

Many hybrids were bred in Holland (including my Berry Bomb, so I’ll use that as an example), at around latitude 50N.

If the breeder (Bomb Seeds - a current sponsor BTW) says in the description that this strain takes about 8 weeks of flowering and will mature outdoors by September-October, you can count backwards 8 weeks from October 16 to August 16, and see that there are 9 hours and 35 minutes of darkness on August 16 in The Netherlands.

Well, at about 37N, where we live, we get 9:35 of darkness around mid-July. So there you have it - we’re in bloom! (well, stretch so far)

Thanks Felipe, that's very interesting analysis. My only issue with that logic is that the breeders have never been close to my actual flowering times for outdoors. Example: Last year both my White Widow and Northern Lights flowered for 12 weeks before harvesting. The breeder estimated 8-9 weeks for WW and 7-8 weeks for NL.

Another point is that I wonder if any breeders are breeding their plants outside, whether at 50N or 50S. I would imagine that their entire process is done indoors, and they just take the number of days of flower inside and add some random weeks for pistils to appear outside. Long flowering strains say late October and short ones say September. And then there's Malawi which says "Christmas."

I've been wanting to pull the trigger on growing Malawi for some time now, but that harvest window always scares me. So far my latest harvest has been October 16-20th (Sour Diesel). I figure my weather should probably hold up until mid November, but December would be pushing my luck.

I was going to say something similar to Shed's response, only as a question.

Do you know what seeds were grown where and how?

Are you kidding? I know nothing about their procedures. I guess I thought that, in addition to indoor trials, they might be growing in greenhouses, which is kinda outdoors, as long as you don’t use light dep tarps.

And I only know that Bomb Seeds are bred in The Netherlands. I suppose that after a few generations in a new latitude/climate, the strains might adapt to local conditions.
