Bassman59's 1st Grow - DWC/LED - Pray For Me!

Great job Bass! :bravo: Keep up the good work, it's paying off. The AK will not stretch too much and can become a very bushy plant when topped.

Thanks dog!

Should I go ahead and top it now or wait for another node to come full then top, then fim the next ones? Your thoughts?

Semi update:

Cleaned tub two to ready for new seedlings, still a week at least before they go in though. Pulled the main res as planned. opened up room in tent and starting to reconfigure a little bit. In the process I noticed the air in tub two was much much more bubbly. Like tons more than the main plant is getting. Fiddled around with the air pump for tub #1 and WALLA! MASSIVE more air! I saw no kinks or anything in the line, but there must have been a pinch I wasnt aware of. This should make a monster difference in growth rate. The next few days may be exciting for me.

I cleaned tub #2 completely, replaced all the water lines and cut new ones for the other tub which will be replaced when I drain, replenish later. All the hydroton is in for massive showering again and will get another bath on transplant day.

I would wait until the sixth node comes in then cut above the fourth. In my opinion. I think she is a little small to top as of right now. I'm not well versed in fim'ing. I tried it once and ended up topping off what I fim'd lol.
I topped my ak at 3 weeks of veg (looking back at my journal) she was over 10" in diameter at that point. I believe I topped that plant 3 times before flower. Those Nirvana AK's have great genetics! You're making me want to orders some. I miss that medication!

congrats on the sprouts .with the ph swings cloudy water and slime sounds like a light leak are u using black hose on the air stones would also cover unused holes in tub or use 5 gallon bucket for the 1 plant. the rez needs to b completly dark :roorrip:

Hey welcome to my grow SS, thanks.

The hoses are clear. However, all the unused holes have hydroton up to about 1/4" from top and then covered with white styrofoam bowl bottom cut to size to prevent light. The rez is definitely dark.

I think the real cause is water temps just too damn high. And this is an issue I am going to have to fight. I can't afford a chiller. High water temps will surely induce algae growth. And adding h202 regularly isnt a good idea as it also kills the good stuff. If I knew of someone with an unused chiller I'd make a trade on harvest futures! Sadly it's not in the financial budget presently.

light will travel threw the clear hoses . :roorrip:

you can find a decent 1/10hp chiller for about $280 online. I'll see if I can find the link to the one I bought. Best money spent so far.

I would love the link. Sadly I really can't get it just yet. However, I may have come up with a temp solution.

I found two tubs, nice and shallow, large enough for me to place 1 grow tub in each and still have room for two 1 gal jugs of ice. I fill the outer tub about 4" high so the grow tubs are surrounded by water. I just placed the ice jugs in the outer tub, so it'll be a while before I see how much it drops. Let's pray for 12 degrees.

Two hours since I dropped the main tub into room temp bath with two 1 gal jugs of Ice. Temp drop 6 more degrees, down to 75. Should see 3-5 more degrees easily. I may have this problem handled. And the air is now SPEWING HUGE amounts of bubbles into the tub. This will not only help drop temps a lil but will REALLY help with so much more 02 in the water. Next few days should be really nice.

Nice job, but I really need to ask...

How do you get more H2O in the water! :)

(I know you meant O2!)

It's a secret, if I told you...well you know.

WOOT!

After a full drain, tub cleaning, pump cleaning, air tubes replacing, air stones cleaning, full replenish with RO water on 1/4 nutes, we got ph of 5.8, PPM of 300 which is just perfect for 1/4 nutes. Just prior to the drain water temp was 72.68f !!

It's starting to look like I got this part dialed in!

So here's what it looks like for the moment. This tub will be turned sideways 90 degrees when the new seedlings go in and both tubs will be side by side with room to spare and light to share.

Another McGyver job

Bubbles, tiny bubbles...

Lets chill baby, 73.5f water temp

WOW!, what a difference good res temps and massive bubbles makes! No pics, but I just got home after being gone 6 hrs and the main plant is SPRY AS HELL! The next few days will be lovely. Gotta git them new seedlings to sprout some leaves and go go go into the McGyver'd setup.

Well I just had to post an update. This one plant is looking very very nice after that res clean, replenish and nice cool water temps.

The new seedlings are just showing 2nd true set of leaves. If I refer to tulips DWC tutorial and tips, he talks about 1/4 nutes on 2nd true set of leaves. The plant below is still on 1/4 nutes as I dont want to up it any until after the new seedlings are in and ready for 1/2 nutes also. Based on tulips tips I'm thinking of dropping them in on 3rd set of leaves showing. This could be by Sun-Mon which is the same time I want to schedule weekly water changes too.

Anyways, that's the thought. On to pics:

Hey Bass,
Good choice on keeping the nutes low. Keep in mind that plants store nutes in them for rainy days (not literally rainy days lol) and its actually really hard to underfeed your plants to the point of harming them. I would advise you not to go over 1/2 recommended strength even in a few weeks unless they tell you they need more. Cannabis is typically not as heavy a feeder as many other plants. A deficiency can recover easily, but a burn can permanently damage the plant depending on how severe.
