Good morning everyone! So last night, I was able to get into the tent and check on the babies. Almost all of them had sucked up most of the water from yesterday morning's drench. So basically 15 hrs. I had also put a a little water in the tray for humidity. Ended up putting enough that they were able to access that too. The only one with "overly" saturated roots was the Space Queen. She still looked happy as a clam though.
Anyway, I thought long and hard and decided it would be best to just get the transplanting done. I hunkered down and took my baked ass time getting it all done! My flawed brain, told me to wait until another day. Told my brain to eat some worm shit and shut up.
They have all have shown similar growth and drinking. I am glad I did not have to stagger their transplant. They all showed similar root structures and had roots starting to circle on all of them. A few sample root porn pics...
I am definitely a "diy soil" kind of guy. I LOVE mixing my soils. But, I need to understand and admit to my limitations. I need to find a soil mix I really like that I can rely on to be consistently solid no matter when or where I buy it. I have wanted to try the Soil King 'Big Rootz' super soil mix for a while. It boasts to be able to take a plant to harvest. I have my reservations about that honestly. Here is a quick look.
I also picked up a bag of Empire Builders 'Producer's Blend' mix. Another one I have wanted to try. My observations in the quality, consistency, and ingredients points me toward preferring the 'Big Rootz' soil...like a lot more!
My goal with this transplant is ultimately to find some future mommas. I would like to keep them as content and not wanting for as long as possible in these 1 gallons. I know they are going to quickly outgrow these containers at the rate they're going. Plus they are known heavy feeders based on insights from the breeder.
I decided to include additional amendments to keep things running smoothly and add to the soils nutrient buffer for the microbes. Here is a new calcium supplement (and LOTS more) that I will be trying out in my smaller indoor soil grows. I included some pics of the pamphlet in case anyone is interested in reading up about it. Had anyone ever tried this Kelzyme product from Element XX? I cannot say I have seen it here but it came highly recommended from a grower I trust far more than my own understanding of soil and microbes.
I also included an extra serving of
@GeoFlora Nutrients into the pots. I filled them about half way and then amended with some GF 'Veg' and some of the Kelzyme.
After I backfilled around my dummy pot, I finished up with the Kelzyme and GF 'Veg' around the edges. I also included some
@DYNOMYCO to inoculate the soil edges and encourage those roots to grow laterally.
Oh...and a liberal dosage of DynoMyco again around the roots of course! Cannot say enough how much I love this mycos product.
And now to finish up the other 7 babies. I decided on changing it up a little and test out 2 different commercial soils and also 2 different pots. I had some 1 gallon fabric pots, that have the velcro sides for "easy" transplanting. So I picked 3 candidates for the fabric pots and the rest got regular plastic nursery 1 gallon pots.
