BakedARea's Cultivated Blessings: A Myriad Of Genetics & Shenanigans

Hey baked. Just got all caught up on your journal.
Hey 209! Welcome. Thanks for catching up!
If I could smoke still I’d light one up right now. You got a lot of different plants going that’s awesome! I’ve never tried brothers Grimm so I’m excited to see your results and see if they will be put on my wish list for next time. Cinderella 99 has been one I’ve wanted to grow for some time.
I'm really looking forward to what I get with the C99. Really crossing my fingers I get at least one female.

I usually go with what’s available at the local shops but I may look to the inter webs sometime in the future. Plants are looking beautiful and healthy my friend.

Looking at your plants has me so excited to get mine going. I plan on starting them tomorrow after work! My dad always used the paper towel method too. I usually soak them for 12-24 hours then straight into the rapid rooters in the dome until I see roots out of the cubes.
I may be dropping some more seeds of these varieties soon. Just to increase my odds for females. These genetics have very stable phenos which is nice. I can just focus on keeping them healthy. My goal is to find breeders that create consistent pheno genetics. If I ever run out of seeds or for whatever reason lose all my mother plants, then I can reorder them and have basically the same plant again. I need to find specific plants that target multiple health issues. I want to find some "permanent" genetics to always have fresh flower. I'll eventually get bored of it though. Haaa haaaa.

Thanks again for swinging in!

Hey BA, all coming along nicely. The C99 will be interesting, that strain has such a reputation. Personally, I just want to find a few great strains to stick with and pollen chuck with, it is overwhelming the thousands that are out there.

Thanks man! It does indeed. I am not as well versed in its history but I listened to the real dirt podcast and MrSoul was on there talking about its history. Basically, I knew right there I would be trying it!

Eventually, I'd love to start chucking pollen too. I want to do it only with good genetics. This LBF is just not something worthwhile. Just my gut...nothing other than that.

There are so many breeders and different crosses. Or same crosses but different methods to get there. Urgh...confusing!

That’s a great goal. That’s exactly what I did with the wedding crasher I grew a couple years ago. I’ve never grew the same strain more than a time or two until I ran into this one. I’m hoping to find another keeper from this batch as well. I hope you find something that helps alleviate your health issues.

The babies are all grown up and old enough to get crabs!
bugs absolutely HATE it!
That! Use that!
I do believe this is about the time to chuck this into the worm bin.
No pollen with those autoflowers around! Bin that boy. :)
Thoughts about a light drench knowing the rest of the pot is still damp?
I would wait until it's getting lighter again and perks up. Then I would water only where the original rootball was since that will still be where the plant is getting most of its water from. Next watering after that would be the whole pot.

Good morning everyone! So last night, I was able to get into the tent and check on the babies. Almost all of them had sucked up most of the water from yesterday morning's drench. So basically 15 hrs. I had also put a a little water in the tray for humidity. Ended up putting enough that they were able to access that too. The only one with "overly" saturated roots was the Space Queen. She still looked happy as a clam though.

Anyway, I thought long and hard and decided it would be best to just get the transplanting done. I hunkered down and took my baked ass time getting it all done! My flawed brain, told me to wait until another day. Told my brain to eat some worm shit and shut up.

They have all have shown similar growth and drinking. I am glad I did not have to stagger their transplant. They all showed similar root structures and had roots starting to circle on all of them. A few sample root porn pics...

I am definitely a "diy soil" kind of guy. I LOVE mixing my soils. But, I need to understand and admit to my limitations. I need to find a soil mix I really like that I can rely on to be consistently solid no matter when or where I buy it. I have wanted to try the Soil King 'Big Rootz' super soil mix for a while. It boasts to be able to take a plant to harvest. I have my reservations about that honestly. Here is a quick look.

I also picked up a bag of Empire Builders 'Producer's Blend' mix. Another one I have wanted to try. My observations in the quality, consistency, and ingredients points me toward preferring the 'Big Rootz' soil...like a lot more!

My goal with this transplant is ultimately to find some future mommas. I would like to keep them as content and not wanting for as long as possible in these 1 gallons. I know they are going to quickly outgrow these containers at the rate they're going. Plus they are known heavy feeders based on insights from the breeder.

I decided to include additional amendments to keep things running smoothly and add to the soils nutrient buffer for the microbes. Here is a new calcium supplement (and LOTS more) that I will be trying out in my smaller indoor soil grows. I included some pics of the pamphlet in case anyone is interested in reading up about it. Had anyone ever tried this Kelzyme product from Element XX? I cannot say I have seen it here but it came highly recommended from a grower I trust far more than my own understanding of soil and microbes.

I also included an extra serving of @GeoFlora Nutrients into the pots. I filled them about half way and then amended with some GF 'Veg' and some of the Kelzyme.

After I backfilled around my dummy pot, I finished up with the Kelzyme and GF 'Veg' around the edges. I also included some @DYNOMYCO to inoculate the soil edges and encourage those roots to grow laterally.

Oh...and a liberal dosage of DynoMyco again around the roots of course! Cannot say enough how much I love this mycos product.

And now to finish up the other 7 babies. I decided on changing it up a little and test out 2 different commercial soils and also 2 different pots. I had some 1 gallon fabric pots, that have the velcro sides for "easy" transplanting. So I picked 3 candidates for the fabric pots and the rest got regular plastic nursery 1 gallon pots.

Thank you for using our products :) The babies look really promising! Very great work @BakedARea. Love how you put some pretty graphics on each journal picture, too. Happy growing friend!

I how you find yours too! Thank you.
That! Use that!
Used it this morning! Same one I used on the Candida before going into the tent. Quick spray under and on top, let it dry, and then another spray on top for good measure. This will be repeated again on Monday morning.
I would wait until it's getting lighter again and perks up. Then I would water only where the original rootball was since that will still be where the plant is getting most of its water from. Next watering after that would be the whole pot.
Awesome. Thanks. Yes, I think I definitely over saturated the entire pot. I was thinking I went light but then saw all the runoff a couple minutes later. I very lightly saturated the top this morning. Very light though. Just enough for any feeder roots to not get too dry is my logic there.

Hey GF team! Thanks for swinging in. Honestly love this stuff! Now go get my local favorite grow store to start carrying it. Just talked to them again last week. I know they order from Left Coast so it should be easy to add it. He seems reluctant for some reason but I think it is simply ignorance and not knowing how good and east the product is. Anyway...I'll keep pushing on them and hopefully they'll start carrying it!

Well, quick update as my time is limited and I know myself well enough that if I don't do this now, I'll get distracted. Last couple days have been busy and my humidifier went dry. No problem for the flowering plants...not so much for the plants in veg. Moisture was sucked out of the leaves and now I have some damaged leaf tips. All in a matter of 24 hrs. I did get to filling the humidifier until this morning. That put an additional 24 hours of low RH. This is why I do believe that VPD is an important metric to try and follow.

I don't mean to come off as absolutely certain that it is low RH. I'm simply convinced of it even more now that I look at those charts and observe the reaction from the plants.

I'm looking forward to harvesting the teeny tiny autos so I can focus on vegging and keeping my environment tuned for only that. This experience pretty much sealed the deal. Minimum of two different grow spaces for veg and flower. Plus my plan to have some momma plants solidify that logic.

If anyone sees something else wrong with them (besides thrip damage), please let me know. I appreciate all of your watchful eyes.

The Candida got another pest spray and I also clipped off any dying or dead leaves.

And now some pics from yesterday and today. You can see how quickly the plants are starting to look blah...

This wee one is different. Has not grown much and looking sad. I clipped off the two funky leaves. One was clearly dying anyway and draped over the nodes below. Went ahead and clipped the opposite side too.

About to prepare for a very large family event, that I'm trying to muster up the right positive energy and feelings about the whole thing. And it is just not happening. I don't want to go completely baked out of my mind...but I may have to. If I have any hopes of keeping my mouth shut and be cordial, it will require multiple HIGH amounts of THC throughout the day. :lot-o-toke:

Have a blessed weekend everyone!

If this is the first time you've used that spray and all the plants look blah afterwards, could there be a connection? I try not to use the same product twice in a row (like neem then iso/water) so as not to clog the stomata with too much oil from the neem. It's also why they recommend to rinse Safers potassium salts of fatty acids.

:goodluck: with the event. :hippy:
Hey Shed! Thanks for the well wishes. I managed to keep my big ass mouth shut and a good level of tranquility throughout the day. My neice had a beautiful day with no idiots in the family causing issues. I left before the heavy drinking and dancing started. I just couldn't muster up any more energy to be there. Said my goodbyes and left as much hope there that nothing dramatic would happen. I haven't got any calls or texts from anyone so that's good news. Then again...I don't get calls or texts from any of them anyway ever...soooooo

As for the spray, I have used it many times and on some indoor plants that tend to be more diva*ish than cannabis. I'm not worried about the spray on them but are you thinking because I sprayed the candida clone with that spray before I brought it into the tent? A couple days later she was drooping. I equated that to wet feet. I have not checked on the tent yet this morning. Typically the first thing I do...but different kind of mood and mentality this morning. I'll post an update a little later.

That spray does leave an oil residue as a barrier. I'll need to pay close attention to their response. Thanks for the reminder!

I like your thinking of not using the same product twice. I typically do that with my outdoor plants. I'm always changing the product/ "angle of attack" to keep things at bay. That was my reasoning of trying something a little stronger and then spray with the EcoWorks EC I have been trying.

I was thrilled with the efficacy of the SNS209 throughout the GSC grow. I'll be introducing that into the soil drenches. After they have it in their system, the bugs are gone! Pricey but effective is used consistently.

Hey baked. Girls are looking good man. Hopefully youve seen the last of those little buggers and can just continue to grow your ladies big and strong :)
Hey man! Thanks. STILL battling those damn thrips. It must be the straw mulch. Only keeping them at bay...not killing them off. Starting to get slightly irritated with them. Just need to keep at it with my sprays.
PhOTY and MOTM! Congratulations Baked on the best lunar new year a guy could ask for. :bravo:
INDEED!!! Thanks Shed.
Congratulations again, Baked on your double gong!
Undeniably cool :high-five:
Thanks DD! Very cool feeling for sure. Honored man

What a day!!! Thanks to everyone for all the congrats and love. You are all blessings to me. A quick update on the plants. The couple days of low RH, looks like it did quite the number on leaves and on one particular plant. I think there may be another environmental factor at play. Possibly over sprayed with the pest control?! I hope not but I am seeing a bunch of damage on several locations on multiple plants.

Plus the damn thrips are STILL being an issue. I'm actually surprised. They all got their first SNS209 drench earlier this morning.

A couple of these pics looks like a duplicate but it was for AM and PM comparison of growth/improvement after this morning's light drench and butt chug.

I won't be spending too much energy on this one. I have more genetics to work with. I will have to hope at least one of the other two QoS is female. If not, then I'll drop more beans.

Thanks for joining on my cultivation journey. Every step is a new opportunity to keep learning and getting better. I'll be honest. I'm bummed that these beauties were doing so good and now, battling multiple things at once. Thankfully, they are photos and I have plenty of time to get things figured out. I need to get some more close ups of bug damage, low rh damage, possible spray damage, urgh.
Good night and let us all accept this one to be as good as gone. It is so far behind the others.

Have you tried iso/water as a pest killer? I usually go 1/9 with 70% iso but you could surely go stronger in veg. And more often too with no build up.
:hmmmm: Can't say that I have. I'll add it to my routine! Thanks Shed. I know you've mentioned it in the past.

A quick update on the candida. She's recovering but is showing some signs of the stress from the transplant. In her next drench, I'll be adding some liquid nutes to help her out.
