Autos v. Photos - A 5x5 No Rules Fight for Yield: A Jon & NickHardy Gig

Ok @NickHardy, the 12th is here. I’m ready. I have 8 set in stone and 1 to decide on. The question marks in the lower left will become either Skywalker, Pink Runtz, or Trizkit. All the plants are up except for the Northern Lights and the Pink Runtz seeds about to hit the dirt.

Here’s my layout, and a shot to show position of plants and seedlings, as well as my beginning morning environment. This will go up to around 85 degrees in the hottest part of the day. Give em a hothouse to start!

Excellent call @Carmen Ray, it’s about to be real boring for a couple weeks. I despise this part. Not sure what I hate more, the wait in the beginning or the wait at the end. Either way, not a fan of waiting. Lol.

I admire your pluck. I brought the power of a trellis to my current 5x5 grow. About 10 days too late, but I won't be next time. 40-45 paying colas up in there. Just getting my eye in though, a sighter...

That's my final entry. Not sure they'll all live but hope so. 14 plants all 120cm tall, just two of them will be in 16oz Solos. The other 12 in 110oz Solos for the full 14. Or you know, 8 straggly assed plants failing to fill the space. Could be either, can't be more - although - can I clone in tent? Off the same plants?

I have two Pink Runtz in coco I just put in the dirt. The ??? Is likely either one of them or the Trizkit. And a Pink Runtz may replace the organic Skywalker in the 3. Whatever’s left will get distributed elsewhere, so I’m done. Everything I have is in the 5x5, I have but to remove. I will end up with the 9. And I used every auto seed I have except for two 2-pack freebies of El Diablo auto from 20Twenty Mendocino. So I’m finally out of auto seeds. Yay!!!!!!

After this I’m in PA, and I’m all about photos. I have so many to grow that are unopened! Semi organic the first one while my LOS percs. After that I’m in the LOS snob league. Lmao!

OK we’re in. The photo directly above rightside top two- there are two in there from the second round of popping - gonna give them a chance. Both OG Kush. I don’t want to run 15 so 100% I’ll be removing one - but the doors are zipped up and no more plants allowed.

The light isn't level but I think I might change it tomorrow. I’m thinking CMH315, I’ll be able to keep filling that black tray with water and getting it wet and humid AF in there. With that high K light though its a balancing act - they’ll get vertical more quickly, besting Jon on yield and time taken would be nice but I also need the other light available. Or buy a new light but I’m not keen, dunno. 1000W HPS DE to finish them? 😂

New pallet and trays come in the week. New dehuey. Gas in the week I guess. Irrigation is all on hand and ready to fit but no point yet while they’re in Swickies

Count the 110oz Solos, sure we have 12 already with holes in. I anticipate a week in these.

Fresh water taps above each of the fert tanks. So cool. No more fucking around with a wet slippery hose pipe. (The green one is fed off the fert tanks)

I sort have unfinished business with that HPS…

Hopefully I’ve forgotten about that by tomorrow.

315cmh is perfect for veg in your situation where you're running a high output flowering tent and want to keep temps up in veg in the smaller tent.

As a supplemental light CMH is superior to HPS in most situations. What I mean by that is CMH has a wider spectrum and more usable light. That being said if you're running lanes in a bigger operation 1000w DE HPS is way superior vertically than 315CMH with higher output and range. Most people grow on a smaller scale with lower ceilings where 315CMH is more usable combined with a ~3-400w led in a 4x4"-5x5".

Hey there @NickHardy - I’ve been quite absent lately as I’ve been dealing with just a shit storm ton of stuff. Not to whine, but besides my mom breaking her hip on the way home and now fighting the rehab facility every day (my communication responsibility with the facility, fun fun), getting this grow going, trim jail, and packing, I’m all alone here since before Thanksgiving, which is great but costs me a bit in Ubers. Result - zero time. Which is to say, sorry. That aside, I see your final setup, I have mine as well.

The five plants forming the 5 on a die are the coco/chem plants, the four in between them are semi organic/GeoFlora plants.

Everyone chem has been getting simply Prescription Blend Core A, Core B, Kelpul, Calmag, and MSA. Everyone organic has been getting plain water and today got Kelp Me Kelp You and Wholly Mackerel as well.

Question for anyone organic who might know this: is it okay to use MSA on organics? Would using it technically change it to a not even semi organic thing? I don’t see why it would matter or affect anything negatively. Thanks.

Nick: got any clue at what point you move them to the flower tent? You won’t veg there for 40+ days will you? Just curious.

Btw, the 2 Pink Runtz and 1 Skywalker overflow plants are in the bedroom closet, with the remainder of the Blackberry Moonrocks.

So it looks like we’re both rolling. Cool. So far so good, eh?

Mine are coming along fine. The one in the peat pot looks viable the other not so I got to my 14 - it’ll go a green Swickie tomorrow or day after.

Re: Vegging - I’m goi g to out them in their final pots in 5 days or so. I’ll also be putting in a 315 CMH to veg under. Hopefully after two weeks I can part harvest the tops where the 1000w Meijiu is, swap the lowers in here to finish and have a week or so of veg under that before flip. I want to be flipping in 4 weeks or so.

Seems like you’ve been clearing the decks at the right time! Bless your Mom, you’ll be worse I reckon 🤣

Oh - I have 20-25 Banner x Gorilla maybe coming in here separate to this grow, popped them this morning but they’ll be like ships that pass in the night hopefully, gonna leave them under the purple light much longer but they may overlap briefly, absolutely maxed on space right now, 68 under lights and 4 outdoors 😅

Cyco FYI

For anyone interested, I will be using the complete Cyco Platinum (all 15 bottles) nutrient set for two of the plants in this grow. My first run with them. As such, I will be following the chart to the letter, at least or until the plants say otherwise. I’ll be using the Basic Feed Chart for Hydroponic Use on the plant that is coco top/water bottom. I’m going to try the Advanced Chart for the other plant, in a 10 of coco. Both plants are Gorilla Cookies in the back two corners of the tent.

Hello all -

Since I’m using nutes I gotta keep track of days. Today the back L and R Gorilla Cookies began Week 1 of the Cyco Basic veg chart for coco/hydro. I went Basic on both. The other three, Bruce Banner, Trizkit, and Apple Fritter, began Week 1 of Prescription Blend. They will switch to Remo when the PB is gone. Since I began week 1 on both systems today, and since everyone is adequately up and close enough in age, we will call today, officially, Day 1.
