Autoflower Myth Busting Thread

Ok thanx Juan neone else please have insite? Gonna b planting a few more seeds soon really need to know how deep to plant them? Have a few questions here please help guys where's everybody's support????:sleep::sleep::sleep::sleep: also need help with that journal so ahhhh???

1 cm deep is enough (that's 1/3 inch) .
I have 1 seed over 4 that was 2 cm deep, and it just took 1 or 2 extra day to show.
Too deep, may never show, so if it shows, then you will know it was not too deep, lol :-)

Here is a technic I used previously, on several grows, but I don't use it in my next grow (to see if I can do without or not).

The purpose is only to protect the seedlings from getting flooded with water and drought by wind (if you are in a windy area: wind = dries the air and makes it less humid). Also, it create a micro climate inside the bottle that keeps moisture and heat. It is a technic I "invented" for outdoor growing, to protect the young plants from the wind and insects during the first few days, and then to protect the base stem during its whole life.

Indoor or outdoor, if you keep the bottle cap closed, then the seedling will stretch to find the light, and will begin to produce leaves when it has reached the bottle top. Indoor, it can protect the young plants from a too powerful fan.

I don't know why I show you this :-) It's a technic (called "stewed germination" in my language) that is very useful to grow plants like cuncumber, or anything that needs a "tropical" climate to start well before going outdoor .
If you are a very anxious and worried parent, you may want to try things like that, even indoor :-) There should be tutorials on youtube too (may be look at "cuncumber first ;-)

So it's water bottles cut and put at approx 1 or 2 cm deep in the soil (1/3 or 1/2 inche) and you would pour water around the bottle at the begining, and you would check that the soild inside the bottle gets enough moist. It simply avoids that your watering removes soil around the youg plants, avoiding washing the roots and fragilizing them.

I hope it helps, eventhough I do not know if it will ;-)

See the distance of the light too: it is a 250 CFL, and at this distance (20 / 30 cm, ie 7 / 10 inches) it will slow down the growth (height), but will favour the leaves size and compactness of the whole plant - which can be useful in small boxes. That's why they look like compact salad (to me, lol). But here you go, you have a pic of 10 days old plants grown like that. then, indoor, i removed the bottles because they are not "that" useful at all as I do not have a fan pointing toward the plants at the begining, so there is no issue of wind-drought - but it depends on what you have yourself (fans , humidifers etc).

On the pic, you may see that I also used seed-containers that I've cut to get a simple cylinder, with the same purpose as above for water (it creates a small wall, and when i pour water, i begin to do it around the walls, then a little bit inside. But I am not using this technic on the forthcoming grow, to see whether it is useful or not.

why did you block out the label from the bottles paranoid much and that water is only good for a ph down :rofl:(ph of 5.8 baby water) if it's the one I'm thinking.

Cause it's guerilla growing dude !!! ;-)

Which one are you thinking about ? mine is filtered by volcanoes, but is not the most famous "volcano water" brand. It is indeed the poorest water I could find on the market, except for another baby water which is even poorer, but much more expensive. It is the type of water I drink myself, cause I prefer the taste of those. So my plants drink the same as I do (and vice versa ;-) )
PH is 6.5 .
For the next grow, when the plants are 2 or 3 weeks old , i'll feed them with green and black tea infused in that water (to get the anti-oxidants and other minerals. It looks like a new trend in gardening in general, to feed plants with good tea , lol ) .

BUT The pictured bottles are in fact a under-forest source (filtered by sea shores pine forest soil and rocks), it is poor in nitrites and sulfites, but contains relatively higher amounts of Ca and Magnesium.
I don't remember the Ph (probably not below 6 but I am not sure) and I don't use it anymore (that brand is not always available here).

I use source water to avoid chlorine, and too much sodium, that's all, eventhough I know that most nutrients are made for tap water.... but tap water composition varies so much, that I wonder why nutrient are made for tap water :D

I forget the name exactly it was mount something or other... But who cares ok so I've decided to chop my current lant in the tent and will be starting autos with the same bulb Santa might bring me a new light but I don't think it'll be even ordered til after the new year. Next is an auto run

:) rosin i think it's called

BHO, shatter, wax ... I've seen stuff that looks blonde and crumbly referred to as "butter" (not the eatin' kind, the smokin' kind)

It's all so convoluted now - GET OFF MY LAWN!

Right?!?!?!!? I never know what people are smoking any more because I don't know what all these silly new slang words for it mean LOL

Great thread guys, some really great info all round. Im gonna be starting my 1st auto grow in the new year, I've selected 4 strains. Has anyone got any experience with these;
(All fast buds)
girl scout cookies
Green crack
pineapple express
blackberry
Thanks in advance.

All four of those strains show up in a LOT of journals - they're pretty popular (except maybe the blackberry).

Auto plants have greatly improved in the last few years - because of the medical use's and short flower times. When 1st introduced they were very poor (about 5 years ago) now they are coming into there own - now everyone is considering "auto's" All ways nice to plant one when cultivating a 4 month plant that way you have a harvest before your main one !!!!!! This way one will never come up short while waiting for a harvest

Thanks for the reply. I know they are popular but aren't strains different from breeder to breeder? i should of been clearer i guess, i was looking to see if anyone had grown those strains from that particular breeder. Ill have a look through the journals again anyway.

Well, I mean, like there's a difference between a breeder and a seed bank. The breeder crosses some strains and makes a new one and names it. The seed banks sell the seeds from the various breeders. So, typically, a "brand name" seed like Girl Scout Cookies came from one breeder. Like, another breeder wouldn't name his or her cross the same thing.

some good auto breeders are Heavyweight seeds - Vast & Fast Seeds - for auto's these breeders say 600-1,000 gr per plant

I am interested to follow all those strains, that I intend to get next (except the green crack, may be i'll prefer a lsd or one of the "reggae seeds" brand).

They will grow like any other auto, but one thing that I see more and more and which is not always the best: light 20 h a day. It really depends on the plant type. For exemple, I have better results with flowers of the "Sweet Seeds" brand, now that they got 18h only (6 hours of night). It's like "the blooming strikes back" and resin too - and the electricty bill will be happier too. But I know that other brands do recommend 20 h a day, some other say you must NOT go beyond 18/6.

So it really depends on the brand and various types composing the strain, something that only the breeders know.

So the best you can do now, is to try to contact the brand to ask them wether their strain are best with which day/night proportioons 16/8 , 18/6 or 20/4 or what is their recommendation(s) in that respect.

NB: I don't think you can grow a regular/feminized plant together with an auto indoor, because of the longer days that an auto seem to require, and which might be incompatible with the regular/feminized seeds.... i assume. May be I am wrong, and in that case, i'd like to know more.

Herbies and Attitude seed banks are distributors NOT breeders - breeders just sell there seeds to bank's for sale because of the delivery issues for world wide shipping, many breeders don't sell world wide. Hope I answered your question - names of good strains Dr. Kippling "increadable Bulk" Heavy weight seeds "Budzilla" Go to "Best Seed Bank.com for a list of top 100 Banks + reviews

Their website actually has some pretty useful info, they do recommend 18/6 for the strains in question. Because of course all strains are different and autos can be a little sensitive from what i understand, i just wondered if any growers had experience with these specific strains from that breeder. For info like if they like/dislike nitrogen etc. They do actually state for the P express that it dislikes too much N. Ill grow them and find out i guess.
