Autoflower Myth Busting Thread

How do you guys keep these plants so short! Mine get so tall. I mean it's good for the harvest, but my tops get too close to the lights. I feel like my room gets all the best smoke because of that - ha.

Thanks Atrain ... Appreciate your comment ... thanks to those who "liked" my post, also

I kept the main cola, as well as the other top and side colas. Probably be a little over an ounce dry weight. That's probably about one third of the total harvest. The rest of the of the lower buds and trim are in the freezer right now. I intend to make some bubble hash for the holidays in a couple days. I'm pretty impressed with the yield from a plant that was only 14inches tall.... Here's another pic of her when I was half way through. She was just full of buds, and even the ones buried down were covered with tricomes. I haven't smoked any of her yet, but everything I read about her so far seems to be true (as to yield and size), and they say the smoke is supposed to be potent too.

I'm quite literally floored by your height of plant to yield ratio. Just. Wow. Man. Wow.

:bravo:

Thanks growchick ... Yeah me too. Reading the blurbs for the seed, they all say it's a high yielding, short plant producing buds that are 20%+ THC. Yield seems to conform to the write-ups. We'll see about potency, but so far, Delicious Seeds seems to have a winner with this strain for auto growers.

Growchick... how you use your lights... how you train the plant ..... and strain choice is the key to shorter plants
For posterity sake ... I used a cheap, $100 300W LED GalaxyHydro main light, supplemented with $10 4W LED bulbs shining on the lower parts of the plant, and a 25W UVb florescent for reptile terrariums (used during flower), in a 3ftx3ftx6ft Apollo tent. She was also in a 7gallon cloth pot filled with Ocean Forest soil, supplemented with 7tablespoons of Marine Quisine and 2teaspoons epsom salts. I did give her quarter and half strength flower nutes after week four, but I think she might have done just as well with water-only throughout the grow ... Also, some lite LST around the top colas (basically just moving big fan leaves out of the way)

Harvest was day 73 from seed.:Namaste:

Nice work there angrc10. You should post up your results when you make the hash!

Appreciate your interest Camo ... Yeah, I will post both hash, and dried flower (maybe in a group picture), including yield weight, etc ... Probably about a week from now for both together, but will also post the hash weight and "toke report" sooner. I'm planning on making the hash on this coming Wednesday afternoon.:Namaste:

I saved the trimming of my last 6 plants and it made 55 grams of dry ice hash.. and that stuff is VERY VERY potent... I contained mephisto sour crack indica plant I let amber up very nice.... it had spanish diesel that was harvested early with all cloudy trichs and also the sativa ultimate from the last run.... all mixed and made in one batch... this stuff is CRAZY

Ha ha .. That is sweet, and plenty mind candy ... :high-five:

Ok guys I trimmed a few fans covering some bud sites and wanted to share these with you... see the leaves on this plant... when feeding autos with my schedule this is what you want to see... notice how nice an green the leaves are... but look at the tips... they are slightly burnt this does not hurt the plant at all but we want to push the autos as hard as possible with out going over.. we up the base nutes gradually and watch for the SLIGHT TIP BURN then we know we're in the sweet zone. Once you notice the tip burn back the base nutes down .5ml/L and continue the same feed schedule everyday... the tip will stop progressing and your plant will thrive on what we now know Is the max dose of base it can handle...

That's how I figured out my nutes to water ratio, too! Just the slightest white on the tips, and I know where they like to max out on PPM.

I don't really want shorter plants - I'm just kinda amazed at the output per tiny plant in this thread. I guess part of it is that most of those short ones are done under CFL lights so they just have a lot less light than my plants have access to. It's super cool seeing these high yielding midgets, for sure!

I have considered attempting to learn to LST mine in the future though. Ideally, I need them not to go over 3 feet, and they usually run to 4. I'm thinking the LST might keep them from going over 3 feet, but I dunno, I also kinda hate to torture them like that. LOL

Lol LST isn't torture you don't hurt them at all your basically just bending them over and opening them up to create many main colas instead of 1 and increasing yield in most cases... no breaking or pinching at all...

Do you force them to be wider when you do this? What I'm trying to ask is would they take up a larger footprint on the floor because they're tied down and over than they do when they're left to grow unfettered? I can't let my garden get any wider, or it will be out of optimal light area. But I really could benefit from slightly shorter plants than I'm getting now.
