Autoflower Myth Busting Thread

Nice, I have a violator kush seedling going now, first run with that strain for me.

It's not cheap, and honestly, this is an area I wouldn't cut corners. Mess up a CO2 room and the neighbors might know. You need a good well known system with plenty of redundancy.

A friend of mine had a close call this summer when the temps outside peaked, a controller failed, and the next thing he knew he almost blew tanks cause the room was so hot. That concerns me, shit fails. I know Murphy.

Beside, I hear you get 25% increased yield. To me, the risk, costs, and headaches are not worth it.

I was close at one point thinking it was the one thing I didn't have yet. But, after thinking long and hard I decided to pass for now. I'm hitting QP per plant, why bother if anything I'll add more light ;)

I'm not totally against it, buy if I do it, it'll be a propane burner unit which I can connect directly to my house. I don't want to mess with tanks. To old for that ;)

Sweet, hopefully you're in for a treat with that one. I'm just harvesting my 2nd VK grow....pic of the first plant down as a pile of bud is here but dunno weight yet. Kushtie - Multiple Strains - 600W HPS & NFT

I hear you on not wanting explosions......I sleep under my growroom!

Any suggestions out there for Kush autos that will hit as hard as VK and I'll want to grow over and over again?

Please let me know what you think of your VK when it's done and if there's other stuff I should be trying too :thumb:

I haven't tested it yet, but, I've got fifteen or so candy kush autos under my belt and it's been great to me. The beans are like five or six a piece, and I get three z from them, easy. My friends love the smoke. I can't compare to VK. But, for flavor and yield I like that. I've done a few THC bomb autos and those yield,, but the smoke its average. Thanks for sharing,, my VK is three weeks old,, but I'll let you know ;)

What about cloning? Myth/rumor has it that auto's are somewhat difficult to clone. I've found a few photo's that aren't clone friendly to certain techniques but react very well to others. My White Widow will clone in peat/coir or rockwool, but tends to lose over 50% of the cuttings. Put them in my mist cloner and it's 99% success lol. I just wonder how these rumors start and if anyone has thoroughly researched all options.

I tried, use that term loosely,, when I was topping my autos. But, being a top it takes longer,, and those autos are on a set schedule pretty much,, so, I think you'll get her to root, whether the loss of the top and whether the new clone are/was worth it can be discussed. I don't think you can will the same success. But, my experience doing that is limited. I have seen a stunted auto finish strong,, but, it still yielded much less than ones I have not messed with. My two cents

electro gypsy,
Are you saying that you clone autos with a 99% success?:hmmm:
If you do I would love to read your journal.
fwiw, I don't see the benefit of cloning autos. If I wanted to clone I would just use photos.

No just photos. Sorry. That wasn't very clear. I have yet to grow autos.. I have a few on the way and the local conspiracy is attempting assimilation lol. I've been a photo pharmer for a long time. I'll probably never convert completely, but I can totally see a nitch for autos in my collection. Especially with some of the info posted in this thread.

Lol... here's the deal about cloning autos..... YES YOU CAN... but you'll get shitty next to nothing lol....here's the deal like mass said they have a predetermined life cycle.... each time you take a clone from a photo it essentially becomes a sprout with the same characteristics of it's mother. .. and will grow in Veg just as a sprout until the light is changed to 12/12 and it flowers or is cloned again... this makes photos very useful for those with lots of room or industrial growers who need to guarantee the shops the same product every time....

This is not the same with auto's. Yes you can cut and clone one with no problem. The only problem occurs when the clone essentially assumes the same age as the mother.... so if you take a cutting from a 40 day old auto that is 36 inches tall. And plant it and it roots you essentially have an auto that is 40 days old and 5 to 8 inches tall and will only live 20 to 30 more days.... equaling no yield and a waste of recourse .....

So here i am pacing around checking the tracking number :laughtwo:

So no clones.. the autos seem sort of seed friendly from time to time. Anyone have experience breeding them? What would happen if photo pollen meets auto flower?

Sorry if any of this has already been covered.. autos are only one of a few experimental things going on at the gypsy farm and ...

and

I forgot what I was going to say.. :lot-o-toke:

Hey fellow auto growers, I'm an indecisive kind of guy so I'm thinking that mixed assortment packs are the way to go. There are just too many strains for me to pick and choose each one. And then to decide 1, 3, 5, more seeds? My adhd just doesn't allow me to handle that many options. Ergo I'm seeking opinions. I've been through one of our fine sponsors sites and searched through every breeder offering assortments. The photo below is what I came up with, as you can tell that is quite a bit of cash so I need to cull the list. Any suggestions on "must grow" or "hell no" rating of those shown in the photo? If you would rather pm with info to avoid a no-no note from a moderator that's okay too. BTW it's linked to a larger version in case your eyes are like mine. TIA

Rifleman, I see my top 3 that I have seen the most solid genetics for and it's easy choosing between them is up to exactly what you are looking for.....in no particular order and without being able to read those strain names ... Dutch passion....mephisto..... and dinafem... all bad ass genetics but I think you know wich one I would go with... and with you running that hydro setup... Mephisto all the way I'd what I would order.. but if it's just quantity you want the DP Wil kill it ...

As regards topping auto's , lets say you top the plant and go for a clone with the top , how long would it take to root and start growing .
Never having done this i'm not sure , but lets say 7-10 days .
If you want that cutting to flower , surely you would be better off pinching or breaking that top to slow her down in order for what would off been the two remaining tops to catch up .
giving you 3 tops of equal height instead of 2 .
Surely this would yield more .
Be safe .

Dont think u can clone an auto with success .iv never tried iv researched about it time ago but basically pointless.there may be other opinions;)

I was thinking about trying it with some lower branches to see if I can take something that would otherwise produce a wee popcorn bud and see if relocating it can turn it into a bigger bud. I don't expect it will turn into a bushy plant but it may grow roots and finish flowering.....only one way to find out :)

I tried that and it did take root and grew fine but it was way behind its mother and probably would have yielded more if it had stayed on the mother plant, it was in quite a small pot(3L-4L I think) though and was done rather late.
So it should be possible, and I would like to see it done properly;)
