What does that mean a unstable strain?

Sent from my iPhone using 420 Magazine Mobile App

I am no means an expert but I think you would end up with all sorts of plants....some would show traits of one or the other, some could be auto-semi auto some would be kinda a mix.....I believe if you grew a bunch of the seeds out and found a few male or female that showed some auto traits you could then breed those and then follow the same pattern and at some point end up with something stable...

So I am changing her today to 18/6. I am getting alot of different advice in lighting and what not . I mean reducing , not reducing.
Unless you're trying to trigger earlier flowering 18 tob20 hours of light is the only advice given here concerning autos. Autoflowering genetically speaking is improving with every year of breeding and finding the best parents. Which leads me to the next post...below,

Very well put bckush, it's the progression of selective traits chosen by the breeder to continue the best genetics(phenotypes/genotypes) in a strain. Most of the major breeders are at least f2 or f3 strains meaning they've backcrossed the same strain multiple times to basically "lock in" the genetic code and thus creating a stable strain... Wow as if I made sense with all that. Great discussion guys, this is a perfect start to a thread for researching new auto Growers.

I understand now and I don't have 2 years to play with breeding plants in all types of different rooms plus growing my own stash at the same time! All though what would it take another tent just for breeding? Yeah too much going on if I had a garage to play in maybe but I'm a condo no can do !!!! lol thanks for your help everyone !!!! Ok now another auto question Can you clone a auto? And if not why? Sorry I'm new to the auto world and I have to know everything about what I'm doing . It's a obsession of mine !! When I am into something I jump both feet in no looking back!!!!! Lol

No, from my understanding; you cannot clone an autoflower. Basically, what will happen if you tried, the cutting would start to flower by the time it took root...because autoflowers continuously grow and "automatically" mature from veg to bloom without light times being a factor, you cannot control the plants ageing/ maturing. With a regular photo plant, YOU decide when it goes into bloom, not the plant, so therefore if you take cuttings from a regular photo plant they would take root and start to grow/veg without flowering.

Hope this helps, just remember the genetics of autoflowers are completely different; their name says it all "AutoFlower".

Absolutely you can :) BUT, it has the exact same genetics as the mother plant and will flower at the same time. Therefore you're cuttings will still be on the same time schedule but will be "out of commission" until they form roots systems and by then it way way too late. So in a matter of fact way, yes you can clone them. They will form roots and even possibly flower if your lucky. But is it in anyway feasible to do NO, sorry for the candid way I've put that... Hope it helps your research, keep the questions coming it will only help others down the line.

Edit: :rofl:simultaneous answers to the question, good job Dankduo. Your help is appreciate :thankyou:

BTW, I am the same way dude, super obsessive over new things I enjoy and that can hold my interest long enough. This is a fun hobby, if you do your research...you will not be disappointing.

Growth seems to be picking up lately. By the way, are these pistils starting to show? You have to look closely at the new shoots....

Sorry I didn't know you asked what I meant by unstable strain. Bckush answered what I was referring to perfectly. When you cross plants there's a little bit of inbreeding (basically) that you have to do for a few generations to make them stable. Im not really sure the procedure but im sure someone could help you but the charts are like this

That means the strain that is made may not produce well and could actually die out before even harvest.

It also will not be a continous same results each grow, strength and so forth.

All you can do is try and see.

I know you can top an auto but can you fim them. Isn't fim supposed to be less stressful to?

Patty was topped but then it grew back which means I didn't clip low enough...thus, I think I actually fimmed
