Let me try to give you some basics on the ppm. First I check the ppm of my base water, usually 160. Then I add nutrients, etc and check it again....960. Subtract 160 from 960 and you have a nutrient value of approx 800ppm. As they drink the solution down from say 4 gal in a bucket to 3 gal, the ppm will probably go up, as the nutrients become more concentrated. Some people top of the reservoir with water, some with a weaker nutrient solution. It's a good thing to check ppm daily and keep notes if you are new to dwc. Eventually you can do it by feel or recipe of your design.

Hope that helps clear things up, if not I'll be glad to try again.

Edit: BTW, I never check pH, haven't in over a year. A buffered nutrient brand was a game changer in my lazy grower style.

Your TDS meter is actually a great tool to see just exactly how many nutes your plants are pulling. Make sure you do a baseline ppm test of whatever you're using for water unless it's distilled or really good RO water. Test again a couple hours after you feed to see what your level is and use that as your maximum level till you change your water. I check once in the AM and once at night and sometimes the nutes used up can be dramatic between tests. It really helps me to not only ensure I've got enough nutes in the water but also helps to keep pH in check; when I change my reservoir and feed my pH is always 5.5 on the dot, then it drifts upward as the nutes are used up. I know that once my nutes hit around 200ppm that my pH will be approaching 6.5 so that's when I give another dose to feed and to keep my pH within parameters.

I'm also using the GH series and I've found their recommended dose is way too high for autos, I use half of what they claim and my plants seem to be doing great. Took a good bit of nute burn early on to figure that out.

Thank u for the info I'm currently using 1/4 the dosage that general wants so I'll step that up to half and I run all to water my beginning ppm is 16 and I'm running around 800 ppm total after my mix and from there I dident k ow what to do from there so I top off with ph water and change every week. So if I continue to check ppm it will tell me how much nutrition I have left and when it gets low enuf I should change it out u r saying I do check temp an ph 2-3 times a day

Correct in checking your ppms regularly to see what the plants have used up. I change the reservoir once per week as a rule just to be sure I'm starting over fresh; just seems like good practice and imo it's good preventative maintenance for keeping problems from developing.

As my plants are growing they're using more and more water, they're going through a gallon each right now every day. Just keep your reservoir topped off each day. Check your ppms after you add water so you have a true reading. Use your baseline ppm reading from when you initially add nutrients to determine when to add more. In my system I know that when add nutes my pH is always 5.5, and as the plants draw nutes the pH naturally drifts back upwards. So if my baseline ppm is 600 and I take a reading of 300 I know that half my nutes are used up and that my pH will be around 6.0. If it's around the middle of the week I'll add another dose of nutes to adjust the pH and keep the plants well fed. Took some trial and error to figure it out but it's been working well for me. Hope this helps!

That's it exactly....it takes doing it to work out a process that fits your needs. No rocket science involved, it really is simple, don't let it intimidate you.

Ok I'm here everyone can relax . lol i know nothing about nothing but enjoy learning a lil about a lot I've had many a girls and unfortunately never let one live for some reason they seem to die. maybe it's because I cut them in half? Meet Crystal she's 78 day old today she was bread(lol) by Fast Buds her "strain name" is "Crystal Meth"
420-magazine-mobile620110276.jpg
her favorite color is purple

420-magazine-mobile192599349.jpg
she enjoys FF ocean forest and general hydroponics line nutes she like her sister Star have been fed nutes since week 1 and I cut her head off.also she was bent in half (super cropped) and tied down my girls like that toeing down part
Allow me to introduce Star she is a lover of life and cares for those around her and plans on being smoked as soon as possible she also comes from the great breeding of Fast Buds and her "strain name" is "Stardawg" also in FF and a lover of general hydroponics she also got her first nute feeding in week 1 today she is 71 days old she's how I like em short and thick

she also has been decapitated and trained. (I like my girls to be trained) lst seriously I find does way more for the plant than just uniformity of the canopy imho her favorite color is green and she has this condition she's covered in this sticky white stuff. I'm so glad I found this thread my journal is perpetual so these girls don't show up until the 20's (page#) but since germination I've done a DAILY journal entry as well as detailed feeding and watering schedule and also daily rh and temp checks refractometer is in the mail so that'll be fun and I'm in the process of building a "room" .so check me out links in my signature thanks for this beast#global420
