Yes, as did Miami Beach for what it is worth. Cops now have the option to issue $100 fine for possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. Granted a citation is better than a criminal charge. Where I live a first offence is usually a $250 fine and if you avoid any involvement with the law for a year it is wiped from your record. Many neighboring counties have a zero tolerance policy and I have know people to get hit with a $2500 fine and it can be worse. It is a move in the right direction but I dislike the idea of 'decriminalization' because it is just such a half-a$$ed approach. O' well it is better than no change at all, we will keep up the fight...until I move back west then they can have this insect infested State.
**The State law: less than 20 grams, the offense is classified as a first degree misdemeanor, with penalties of up to one year in jail or one year probation, and a $1,000 fine.
A conviction for misdemeanor marijuana possession will result in a two-year driver’s license revocation, in addition to a likely term of probation. If a probationary sentence is imposed, the defendant will be subjected to intrusive random drug testing and be responsible for paying costs of supervision, court costs, fines, costs of prosecution, and completing all other terms and conditions imposed by the court.**
There are also several other punitive results that they may impose.
